Still chasing €329.98 refund for them cancelling flight; 2 months later!!

My flight booked with AeroItalia was cancelled by the operator on the 1st June. We were given the option of selecting the proposed alternative flight date and time, accepting vouchers or a full refund. I selected full refund. This was early June.

Waited for the refund of €329.98 to come through. Nothing. So I called AeroItalia to chase payment in Mid-July and was told the payment would be processed shortly. NOTHING. 7th August I emailed them to chase payment and raise complaint. NOTHING. It is now 27th August and I am still without the refund of €329.98!!

Tried to call them today, rang for 30 minutes before the phone was automatically ended. Not only does AeroItalia have SHOCKING CUSTOMER SERVICE but they are also thieves. Not to be trusted with your money!!

Worst company to fly with to and from…

Worst company to fly with to and from Italy! Do yourself a favor and pay a bit more a good service.
The support doesn't even answer to your emails, they make changes to your flights without caring about ruining your plans, their workers are careless.

Hell no, bad one!

DO NOT TRAVEL WITH THESE THIEVES

I traveled with Aeroitalia as an unaccompanied minor, and the experience was honestly terrible. First of all, they added a hidden fee of €100 per flight just because I was a minor traveling alone. This wasn’t clearly mentioned anywhere during the booking process.

Because of this, I couldn’t check in online. When I left from Romania on June 19, I was lucky that they didn’t charge me for the in-person check-in. But when I returned on July 19, I was forced to pay a €35 fee because the check-in was already closed three hours before the flight—which I think is completely unreasonable.

Also, at the airport in Rome, the check-in staff spoke only Italian, no English at all. I had to get help from an airport assistant just to understand what they were saying. Then, when it came to payment, they only accepted cards. I had a Romanian card that didn’t support euros, so the payment didn’t go through. In the end, I had to borrow money from another Romanian passenger just to be able to fly.

What shocked me most was how the flight to Bacău (Rome–Bacău) was treated. It was the last flight of the day, on the last gate in the terminal, and the last plane on the runway. We had to ride a bus for nearly 20 minutes just to reach the aircraft, which was old and worn-out. Compared to other flights boarding near the terminal, it really felt like Aeroitalia treated this Romanian route with disrespect, almost like a subtle form of discrimination or bias against Romania.

Overall, I had a stressful, frustrating, and disappointing experience. I do not recommend Aeroitalia, especially for minors or anyone flying to Romania.

Worse experience ever

Absolutely the worst airline experience I've ever had.

Booked a simple Rome–Milan flight for €70 — seemed like a good deal at first. But once at the airport, the hidden charges started piling up:

€35 penalty at the check-in counter because I didn’t do online check-in the day before
€55 extra for a 7 kg carry-on bag that should’ve been included
Total extra charges: €90 — more than the cost of the flight itself
To make things worse:

The plane was old, uncomfortable, and felt completely outdated
The staff didn’t make much effort to explain the fees or offer solutions
Overall service was careless and unprofessional
Aeroitalia feels like a trap — cheap upfront, expensive and frustrating in the end. Never flying with them again.

Aeroitalia customer service: 0

While travelling with this airline, and boarding a delayed flight with a layover, the luggage never made it to the final destination.

After trying to contact them multiple times during working hours, and getting no answer or reply, we made it back to Catania airport to talk to lost and found directly. There we were told by a general lost and found officer that there was still no information about the luggage, and that this company does not have a courier delivery service for the lost luggage to be delivered to us. We were also told that our best hope is to wait for up to two days, and we might be notified of when it is at the Catania airport to be picked up.

This is extremely inconvenient since we have bookings to stay far from Catania.

We were also told we will need to pay for any transportation costs that we might incur in to come back, and get the luggage ourselves.

Aeroitalia customer service: 0

I strongly advise anyone against flying with this company. Getting a cheaper price is not worth it.

Unjust check-in fee, no support, and rude airport staff.I had a terrible experience flying with…

I had a terrible experience flying with AeroItalia as part of my trip. Their online check-in system blocked me from checking in, falsely stating I needed to purchase a seat — even though I was well within the normal check-in window and there was no option to proceed. I tried multiple times the day before and day of the flight, but the site simply didn’t work.

Worse, I never received any email reminders or instructions from AeroItalia, nor any warning that check-in would close so early (3 hours before the flight!). When I arrived at the airport (2 hours before departure), check-in was already closed. The agent at the desk was rude, confused, and dismissive, and told me I had to pay 45 euros just to receive a boarding pass or call customer support via telephone. As an American who just landed in Italy, that was impossible and she was of no help.

When I explained that I’d been trying to check in and even contacted Booking.com support (who couldn’t reach the airline either), I was told that without a screenshot of the error, they couldn’t help me. Who takes screenshots assuming an airline will block check-in?

This seems to be a known pattern with AeroItalia — after this happened, I saw multiple reviews from others reporting similar issues and forced fees. It feels like a scam disguised as policy.

This was my first and last time flying AeroItalia. I’ll be filing a formal complaint and strongly advise others to avoid this airline if you value transparency and customer service.

Total thieves

Total thieves. I had to cancel my trip to Italy as my travel partner got into an accident and could not travel for 12 weeks - a month and a half before our trip. I tried to get a hold of someone but no one answers email, chat, or online form. I reached out so many times. Total grifters. When I do go next year - I will not travel on this airline. If I could give the middle finger to these a-holes, I would.

I BEG STAY AWAY

Canceled flight, no compensation for the night just tickets for the flight tomorrow. (extra money on hotel that night). Tomorrow, flight delayed so had to uber home instead catching a train because of delay. If I had 3 genie wishes, my first one would be to go back in time and never ever choose these morons. Trust me it is much more worth it to get that ITA Airways flight, I beg you to never EVER choose these people. As a student, thank you for robbing me for additional 100-200e in these 2 days. STAY AWAY!!!!!!!!!!

What a pack of thieves

What a pack of thieves! Tried to check in the day before and they wanted to charge me “again” just to choose my seats. Thought I would try to resolve this at check in at airport. And they charged me an extra 160 euro as a fine because I did not check in the day before. They were going to get me either way. I have travelled extensively on different airlines and this is the worst I have ever seen. Will never book with Aeroitalia ever again. Will be contacting head office but won’t be expecting much from these morons.

Absolutely horrible

Absolutely horrible! Cancelled my flight due to "overbooking" and over 3 months i still can't get my money back... Whenever I actually get through to the customer support ( after 3 hours + on hold) they say " We can see your refund has been processed and is in the queue - nothing else we can do " and hang up. Absolutely disgusting, avoid at all costs!

FCO to CAG route in May

FCO to CAG route in May. They did cancel our initial late morning flight several weeks before it was scheduled. Despite booking directly through the airline and booking the highest fare with luggage and free changes, changing to an earlier flight cost me 5Euros per person and though I reached out to the airline before to ask why via message I never got a response. I was worried but the earlier flight I changed to went just fine other than the fact that when we arrived in CAG, out of 7 suitcases my son's had his lock removed and his very nice luggage tag also removed, no evidence that luggage had any distress so not sure what happened but it was clearly opened. Both flights to and from FCO to CAG went well and despite being concerned and reading reviews we had success using them.

Robbed at checkin

Congratulations! Out of the 100+ airlines I’ve flown with, AEROITALIA have managed to set a new low — and that’s no small feat. I must say, it takes a special kind of arrogance to charge 45 euros per person for offline check-in despite the e-ticket clearly stating it's free. I arrived two half hours early, like a responsible traveler, only to be welcomed with this delightful surprise. If you're that desperate for cash, might I suggest a bank — not your own passengers?

Let’s talk about “customer service,” a term I use very loosely here. The contact form doesn’t even work. I submitted multiple requests weeks ago, and received... nothing. Are you relying on telepathy now? Or perhaps you expect customer concerns to be resolved through black magic?

After giving up on your magical portal, I eventually called. When I requested a receipt for the baggage charge (you know, the one that shouldn’t have existed in the first place), I was told it was “impossible” because it must be requested at the time of purchase. Ah yes, of course — the classic “guess-the-secret-rule” game! Silly me for not knowing this absurd policy. Shouldn’t this be included in the booking confirmation time?

To say my experience was frustrating would be an understatement. It was an infuriating, time-wasting, customer-insulting disaster. But hey, if your business strategy is to drive customers straight into the arms of your competitors, bravo — it’s working brilliantly. I will never repeat the mistake of flying with Aeroitalia again. And I’ll be doing my part to warn others of the privilege

So far trying to get a hold of them via the phone has been impossible, the foreign # just rings out as they are so busy helping all the other dissatisfied customers. Choose another airline.

Hidden baggage check in fees, lost bags

As we arrive at the airport just shy of 2hrs before the domestic flight we find that the flight is actually through international terminal. We then go to the international terminal and when we go to check in as normal in person (manual check in) they inform us that there is a 35 EURO fee for manual check in! They said you had to check in bags online 2hrs before flight to get them for free, even though we stated that we had checked bags MONTHS ago. After this we board a plane that had spare seats so it was not a big deal that we had checked bags. Such a stupid rule they have to steal from you. Then we find at our destination that they didn't tag one of our checked bags so it never went on the plane. I and all my family and friends will NEVER FLY AEROITALIA EVER AGAIN.

WORST Airline Ever Experienced

They already changed my flight time which was a connection I couldn't make, I had to pay another 100 euro to change the ticket to a later flight since they won't accept fault for any flights changed within 3 hours. NOW they changed my from that later flight again to the earlier flight and are trying to charge me another 288 euros to do that!!! The WORST airline ever. There is no customer service number either, they just hang up on you.
