Lower your expectations

I rarely write negative reviews so I will try to be factual here so people know what to expect.

1. Aeroitalia is a relatively new carrier operating domestic routes in Italy that were historically covered by Alitalia. The flight schedule is all over the place and seems to reflect more the needs of the airline than those of the passengers. Flights usually depart early in the morning or late at night.

2. The fleet comprises of old 737-800 of first generation that look and feel tired and dirty. (Avg age of the aeroitalia fleet is 18 years)

3. Fares are expensive even for those routes that should cover the “continuita territoriale” eg Sardinia if compared to Ryanair. That is unacceptable.

4. The crew are there because they have to be for legal reasons and have no interest in making your flight more pleasant. While, historically, Alitalia never had a full service on domestic routes, aeroitalia takes it to a new level. After listening to the flight attendant kvetch about their schedule, 30 min into the flight, they begrudgingly decide it is time to give a glass of water to the passengers. There is no sparking or still, just a cheap version of Ferrarelle that tastes like flat tab. No ice, coffe, tea or a miserly biscuit. What is even more insane is how oblivious the crew is to how unusual it is for a passenger to experience this non existent service. Ryanair, by comparison, feels like Emirates first class.

Terrible airline and totally rude and old, dusty, unprofessional staff who are looking at customers as if they were criminals, chasing a gram or a centimeter over the luggage limits. Old staff member FCO-OLB flight - her face can't smile. Flight delayed for over 2h with absolutely no reason or apologies to dozens of travelers waiting for about 10 sport team kids who landed late and cause all the chaos. Totally chaotic, cheap under the norms airline. Staff can barely speak English. Unacceptable.

Be careful!

Company doesn't reply to forms submitted to customer service.

Expensive flights Rome-Cagliari. Boarding 10 mins earlier than written in the ticket and closing the gate in a busy airport even though luggages are checked in. The result in our experience was to have to buy another ticket each at the cost of almost 500 AUD. No refund received yet as they haven't responded to my query and I have submitted a month ago.

Paying to check in??

My husband and I were flying from Catania to Rome and chose to pre-pay 70 euros to check a bag (expensive, but these are the rules, yea). When we arrived at the airport 2 hours early to check the bag and check into the flight, we were told that we had to pay 90 euros to check in in person. It would have been 5 euros to check in online, but online check in ‘closed’ 3 hours before the flight. I have never, ever heard of needing to pay extra (90 euros!!!) to get boarding passes printed at the airport. The Aeroitalia people acted as if this was common knowledge and said I should have read the rules when I booked the flight. Nowhere can I find this check-in rule in any of the Aeroitalia literature online. Very rude and condescending. Bad vibes.

I was lucky

I was lucky, flight were on time, staff were nice. Their small baggage policy measurements are smaller then other cheap companies though. Could have been worse. Also, the free water tasted really bad.

Never, ever, ever fly with AEROITALIA (spare yourself the misery)!!!!

I booked a flight in October to Rome for December. and when December came they move the flight twice and 3 days before the flight they cancelled it!
WTF!!! And in December where all mode of transportation are fully booked and prices are to the roof!!!
And then they just cancel it without refunding it immediately when you need the money for the next transportation you can hustle last minute!!!!
This airline should not be in business at all!!!
Even If they are the only airline left in the world i would rather take other mode of transportation than flying with them.
For whoever think of flying with this airline. DON’T, just DON’T!!!! Spare yourself the stress and agony they are not worth it. You are better off flying with Ryanair, easyjet and wizz air. If they don’t fly to the places you want to go and only this airline have, go take the train or the bus it mat take longer but you have a stress free travel.

Horrible Customer Service, Dirty and Broken Seats

Luggage allowance is unclear and they force you to pay additional cost for what is standard in other airlines companies, asked to receive a bill for the additional costs but never arrived, called customer service multiple times to be treated poorly by rude service agents, plane seats were broken and dirty. How a company like this can win a tender to become Sardinia's only airline to provide connection flights to mainland for residents is beyond believe.

Lies on their website about their…

Lies on their website about their carry-on size.very rude “manager” working on Monday Oct 20. To her I say: I’m not surprised you work at a budget airline. Absolute bully but I’ll be reporting you and the airline to customer protection.

To fellow customers: Do NOT bring a carry-on larger than 20X30X40- if you do, try stuffing it into your suitcase so you aren’t charged an extra 50 euros.

There should be a "no-star" category

There should be a "no-star" category. Absolutely horrible airline. Same experience as many others in this thread. Rome to Palermo. Flight cancelled and re-booked and then delayed 3 times. Fines at airport for not checking in on-line which was not possible. 250 euros charged for carry on bags. Etc. Do not fly with this company.

Horrible airline

Horrible airline, they canceled my flight without any prior notice. There was no one at the airport to resolve my issue, and finally, after a long time on the phone with the manager, they rescheduled my flight for another day. I had to stay in a hotel overnight, which cost me a fortune. I’m seeking my rights, but they simply won’t reimburse me for anything!! And they put me on an extremely questionable plane, where I genuinely feared for my safety the entire flight. Rating: 0

5 people lost luggage for 2 days and no answer

Traveling from Bergamo to Rome they lost our luggage (2 adults traveling with 3 kids). We had to buy everything for 5 people, because we got to Rome with no personal care, pijamas or clothings for none of us and a month and a half later I'm still waitng for an answer from their side.

Terrible customer service

Our recent flight on 10/2/24 from
Palermo to Rome was delayed almost 2 hours. By time we collected our baggage (another almost 1/2 hour) our connecting flight to Newark had departed. We had to purchase new tickets ( due to Expedia restrictions, another nightmare) at a cost of 1400.00 plus euros. I have contacted AeroItalia requesting a monetary compensation for the 1400.00 euros, but the only way to communicate this issues is via email. To date all I have received is an email that an agent will review my complaint and get back to me. We are not holding our breath! Do not fly this airline and whatever you do NEVER use a third party like Expedia or Hopper to book your plane tickets.
