Worn battery. Overheating in normal use.

I am quite late writing a review but still not happy and decided to write a review anyway.

Bought my Alienware m17 about a year ago. Customer service is by no means proactive. Had to drag out answers and didn't get a good solution. Having to email a lot back and forth to get nowhere. When I received my laptop, the battery was already worn out. According to the specification it should have 90000 Mah but it didn't. I had to perform a hardware test that was of no use to me. The battery was not 90000 Mah that I paid for. I have spent a considerable amount of money and am ultimately not satisfied. I have accepted the lower battery at the time, much to my regret. The person I spoke to was new and I have a soft spot for that.

Another thing is that the laptop becomes 100 degrees Celsius with light use and starts to blow like an airplane taking off. Strong suspicion that the cooling is bad. I myself had to bring the CPU voltage down with other software to get acceptable temperatures. I read that I am not alone on the internet. This should be configured out of the box.

Since I did the adjustment myself and put 2 evo 970 plus 1TB in it, the laptop works normally. As you would expect when you receive the laptop.

Another thing was that windows was not activated when I started up the laptop for the first time. Fortunately, I was planning to upgrade to windows pro myself to use 'remote desktop' so I didn’t make a problem out of that but is worth mentioning here.

Very unfortunate. No more Alienware for me.

Alienware 17R4

I have a Alienware 17R4 and it has a several issue of thermal throttling. Dell Brazil refuses to change the computer! They already changed the motherboard with all its thermals 4 times and the issue continues!
Each time I contact them it's 3hours of phone and then an entire day waiting for them to come and change the parts.
It's so frustrating buying a notebook that you've dreamed for a long time and it just gives you headaches instead of pleasure using it!

Don’t expect service/customer service excellence

I have been a dell customer for years and am Alienware customer for years as well. Recently upon having to send my m17 r4 in I had a really awful experience with customer service associated with repair. They put my concern off an a stupid problem and I got no consideration all the way up the chain to management. I am a keeper of original packaging. I was sent a box that my laptop could not fit securely. I informed them, they sent another exactly like the first. I finally decided to protect my investment to ship it in original packaging all the way down to the brown paper wrapping around the box. I requested by voice, email and in writing that my property be returned in my box. That didn’t happen. I complained and they basically told me tuff get over it. They also changed my pc by installing a new screen which was an upgrade. What they did not do was inform me they would change it to something different. I don’t care if it was an upgrade or not, inform me it’s my property which I pay a premium price for extended warranty. After I got no where with all of that I had again problems with the eye tracking feature which is why I sent it in the first place. This was not working when it was returned supposedly repaired. I’ve had trouble ever since and they basically stopped answering my requests. It’s still not right, they won’t refund the balance of my warranty and I’m no longer a dell/Alienware customer this ends a 20 relationship. Shame on you people for being an awful example of service/customer service people you really disappoint. My advice go where they care about their customers because they don’t here.

Absolutely mediocre Support

Here's where I have to eat crow. After a long withdrawn problem with them, They finally called me back and replace the software I was promised. But there customer support is a bit lacking.

Alilenware was great back before they were bought by Dell. Now they are nowhere as easy to work with and it seems like their PCs are more cookie cutter instead of the awesome custom PCs I used to get from them. I would still use Alienware but they arent the best anymore.

customer loyalty 0/100

i purchased my Alienware aroura r7 back in 2018 and had a problem right off the start. the motherboard and harddrive were both bad. customer service replaced the parts but forgot to merge my optane module to the harddrive. now they want to charge me over 100$ for a service call to fix a problem that should have been taken care of when they fixed the defective product they sent me in the first place. After talking to a manager about my issue, I was told that they would not help without the service charge even though the problem was caused by them. will never purchase another Alienware or dell again.

I bought Alienware 17 r5 i found there is a issue with the left usb port and when i contact dell they said they will replace the motherboard. Then i knew its a refurbished motherboard i refused they told me you our refurbished product is 100% working and we test it . And when i insist they told me you have to accept it or we wont fix it for you and we will close the case. so i had to accept it. And i regret that After wasting 3 hours of my time for the technician to replace my motherboard the refurbished motherboard had exact the same problem and it was even worth. So they told me to wait another week and they will send me.another refurbished one.
Dont buy alienware products ! Dell technical/ customer support is the worst and they dont even know how to value or respect a customer.

Don't do business with Dell/Alienware

Alienware/Dell service is quite possibly the worst I've ever seen. I will never do business with Alienware again. I ordered a PC during a sale early December, it was delayed 4 times within the first month until it was finally cancelled because of a part shortage and reordered as they said it would be in very soon, I then had to point out a mistake as they had ordered another incorrect part so they had to cancel and re-order again... Less than a week before my machine was supposed to be delivered, it gets delayed again with an estimated delivery of March... I had been back and forth with a senior rep who could simply do nothing for me or didn't want to do anything for me. They told me multiple times they were expediting my order, yet it kept getting delayed. I asked if they could give me any options on replacement parts or comparable components, or forward me to someone who could help me get a machine quicker, but those comments were never addressed. Clearly I wasn't an important enough customer to retain, or they didn't want my money bad enough. One thing is clear, they are not a company that wants to fulfill their promises and tends to sell stock they don't have in hopes that they're customers are patient enough, or stupid enough to wait for their sub-par services.

Don't do business with this company. Their computers are overpriced, and their service is atrocious. I decided to price and order the parts myself, it's cheaper, and I'm getting better service from myself, might take myself out for lunch after this too.

Bad experiance

Got an Aurora R8. Gotta say that as a costumer I do not really care what contracts they have with 3rd party companies.
If I pay that huge amount of money for an PC I do want to get a good quality PC.
The noises even after all required Updates (lso BIOS) is just unexceptable. I had to buy two fans and put them by myself into the PC to get rid of that anyoing loud noise.

Critically acclaimed workmanship

My first Alienware is a m15 bought from Amazon from overseas. Fresh out of the box and the fan starts making noises like a leaf stuck btw blades and half an hour later, it died. That's built quality for you. Guess why they only give 1 yr basic warranty that is not transferrable when you are overseas? Yap, because they dare not stand behind their most premium product and they know that they cheaped out and yet demand a premium for their poor workmanship. That speaks volume. Don't buy into the hype folks. Now my vacation is ruined and i am feeling resentful. To hell with you Alienware.

15 R4 - Overpriced, but a great product

After reading some other reviews and both before and after my purchase of an alienware 15 R4, I can say that I am very happy with the product. I have had almost zero issues with it in about 9 months of owning it. It's possible I hit the silicon lottery with this one but its works with no issues.

I did have to undervolt the CPU and keep it at its base clock to keep the temps under control but it has barely effected my gaming in any way. I plan on re-pasting it soon as well.

The prices are absolutely ludicrous for what they are offering, but money was not an issue for me. This laptop has been a great placeholder in the meantime until I build a full Rig.

The prices really should be lower considering how many issues other users are having. The brand name alone should not cause the prices to spike that much. But overall for myself, I can say that this is a good product and I would recommend Alienware to someone who is looking for a great gaming laptop (assuming money is not an issue)

Astonishingly untrustworthy for a large company

Signed up for Alienware's social media platform "Alienware Arena" due to a giveaway promotion they ran for a game I play.

Like with dozens of other people who've complained on their site, I wasn't given the promised reward for logging in for the required 5 days. I did get a reward code for the 4th day, but that's invalid!

I thought I'll just delete it and get on with the rest of my life, but they've got the audacity not to include any form of delete or even deactivation function within their site. You can't delete your account or remove your personal details, which include you DOB.

No mention of how to do this in their FAQs. Forum posts asking this question from other victims, and the support team don't reply.

Seeing as they're eager to scam people at that level with their online products, I wouldn't dream of buying a computer from them. I am genuinely in the market for buying a gaming desktop in the coming weeks and thought Alienware (despite being taken over by Dell) was the one to aim for. Clearly not. Wouldn't touch them with a barge pole.

Alienware 17 r3 laptop, don’t buy it

I bought a alienware 17 r3 laptop 4 years ago. Worked well for less than a year, after that it went full potato. It was so expensive, when I tried contacting customer service, they told me they couldn’t help me, even though there should be two years warranty on, and not only one. The battery is permanently damaged, and can’t be charged, the charger is almost broken because of the stupid LED design. And I can’t even play Overwatch on it. It literally has so much good stuff in it, and yet it’s still just pure trash. Don’t buy their laptops... just don’t.. they can’t get cooled down, and good luck cleaning the coolers on your own.. 5+ layers to apply some paste and clean them... nope

Btw I bought it from their own website, and have only used it for gaming while sitting at my desk.

Best choice i've made

If you need a top tier laptop, look no further than Alienware. The speccs are simply amazing for the price they charge, and you truly get a top of the line product for the trouble of ordering it.

I have had this computer for less than a month but I got a crap ton of problems.First my microphone jack wasn't working so they sent a technician. He tried fixing it but didn't fix it and made my computer worse because I started having problems with the fans. After that they sent another technician who fixed the fan problem but created another problem and now my computers lights aren't working. So now Im waiting for a new technician to fix that.I have gone through all that and I still have the microphone problem.Do not buy an Alienware product.

Overpriced

Their products are extremely overpriced and some of the desktop PC's have had poor cooling configurations.

I'd only recommend them if you're looking to buy a gaming PC and have lots of money and don't want to build your own.
