I have had a Barclaycard since 1974.
I opened a Barclays Bank account that year and I was given a Barclaycard as a "cheque guarantee card" … something you HAD to have in those long ago banking days. Initially, I didn’t use it as a credit card but I have been using it as such for a good number of years since.
I have remained loyal to Barclaycard, for over 50 years, despite a 'nightmare' a few years ago. Barclaycard allowed £17k+ of fraudulent spending, within five days, go through on my card, even though I informed them, at the very outset, on a request for authorisation for a spend of well less than £1,000 that I had NOT used my card for it and did NOT authorise it. Barclaycard then told me the card was blocked so no further debits would be added to my account.
Imagine how it felt to then receive, over the next five days, constant, nightmarish, enormous additions to my card bill … way beyond what I knew my limit was and what I could pay ... to a final total in excess of £17,000!! All the while I heard nothing further, whatsoever, directly from anyone at Barclaycard - other than the text and email notifications of my alarmingly increasing card debits.
One of these fraudulent items was a bicycle bought and hilariously, accidentally, delivered to my address. I reported the mobile number, the TNT delivery driver gave me, when I refused his delivery, immediately to Barclaycard. I rang the bicycle company the next day, to ask about the purchase and amazingly, to discover they were in process of actually redelivering the bicycle to the fraudster (who had complained about the non-delivery the day before - you couldn’t make it up!). After my call, the bicycle company rang me back to tell me they had stopped the delivery and then gave me the delivery address of the fraudster …. all reported by me to Barclaycard. I never heard another word - not even a thanks - from Barclaycard . Because they now had the delivery address, they must have been able to find at least one fraudster in this chain ... and maybe others. Barclaycard did, grudgingly, eventually, give me £250 to say sorry a while later, after they had removed the massive spend from my account!
I’m leaving Barclaycard now because it has chosen to close the simple online system I have been using for years.
IT IS TRYING TO FORCE BARCLAYCARD HOLDERS TO DOWNLOAD AND USE ITS APP INSTEAD - why?
At the end of the day, shouldn’t it be my choice - what is best for me - not Barclaycard?
Apps can access internal files and locations on my devices - web browsers cannot do this and on a browser, I can set privacy controls as I want them to be - I don't think I can do that in an app. The history I have with Barclaycard makes me feel nervous to give it this level of control.
There is something SO deeply distasteful about this invidious bullying and coercive behaviour of banks and many others, who think we should all download their company apps - why should we be put in this position?
I’ve just tried to create the offered alternative to the Barclaycard app … ironically, a Barclays online account … guess what! I’m going to be sent a 5-digit passcode, by post, to complete the establishment of my new Barclays.co.uk account. Checking the Barclaycard website, tells me most of what I will actually need is NOT provided by a Barclays online account!!
Enough said … adios Barclaycard - I ignore/dismiss/block bullies!

The application process was seemless and the information about the terms clearly provided. I highly recommend the card, especially for who freelances or had a trade that benefits from internet free credit to balance cash flow for purchases.

Signed up and was approved for a balance transfer card, all good. That arrived, I've got that and the pin for said card. All good.

I set up the app because - like many people nowadays, mobile banking is my only option.

And this is where the issues began. It took three seperate attempts to set up the app - partly because it's unclear if the app is the 'Barclaycard' app or 'Barclays' - both have worked with my card to sign in.

But after a few days, neither will allow me to access balance transfers. Which was the primary purpose of the card.

Their support is only "call us" which like, great. I'm hard of hearing. Calls are not an option for me. And as is always the case, they'll respond saying "contact us" but the only option is a call.

Which doesn't work for me.

Their website says there are no issues but I see a lot of people saying otherwise about the mobile app, and I have to say I agree with the countless people running into the same error - DL001.

Barclaycard provide banking and credit card services to MBR Acres- a company that breed 2000 beagle puppies each year for animal testing. These dogs are bred in squalid conditions and then shipped off to laboratories when they are still puppies to be forced to breathe in chemicals via face masks or have chemicals pumped in to their stomachs through tubes that are forced down their throats. I am absolutely horrified that Barclaycard would work for and support such a despicable company and clearly have no morals or ethics
