Based on reviews, created with AI

Most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Many customers expressed dissatisfaction with the service, citing issues with claims, constant price increases, and poor customer service. People found it difficult to contact the company, often experiencing long wait times and unhelpful representatives. Reviewers also noted discrepancies between initial price quotes and the final prices, which frequently increased significantly after commitment. Some customers also reported concerns regarding policy cancellations or coverage denials. However, a few other people also felt that the premiums were reasonable and that the service was efficient, especially when setting up a new policy or reporting an accident.

Do not go through this company

I pay a ridiculous amount for my insurance with no accidents. Years go by and I get hit head on while I’m parked at red light in a school zone by a punk speeding through the intersection. This happens in December. I fight with this insurance company for two months to get my truck into an auto body shop for repairs. I get continuously ignored. It takes 2-1/2 months to finally get my truck repaired. Then comes time to pick up my vehicle and the insurance company is saying I have to pay a deductible. I have to fight for an hour on the phone getting hung up on and being passed over to three different people to say I will not be paying anything because my policy states I was found at no fault. That means zero deductible. After fighting with these people, I finally get out through to an adjuster who understands and says it will be waived as it should have been.
The original adjuster that I was given, ignored my continuous, emails and phone calls throughout this whole process. I do not recommend ever getting insurance through this company. They have no problem taking your money but when you need them for the very thing that you pay into, they will ignore you to no end.
But I do have to say at least the auto-body shop gave me exceptional service when they were able to when the insurance company actually allowed the process to begin.

Legal spammers

You get a quote online it’s one amount and then all of a sudden because you didn’t go for it they call you and they give you a better quote. (With half an a hour, questioning over the phone)Then they send you better price PDF quote. you say yes I wanna go for it and then they ask you question again and the price is more. Wow what a load of crap.

Cancelled my insurance

Bélair bought out Johnson’s insurance. I have been with Johnsons for 13 years and have been in a monthly payment plan. The monthly premium was deducted from my payroll. I believe Johnsons insurance had some sort of arrangement with the union. Anyway, I had no idea Johnsons was purchased by Bélair and that my monthly payments were no longer being deducted from my pay until I got a letter from Bélair in November when I was 2 months behind. I called to rectify this and they wanted me to provide my banking information over the phone so they could withdraw directly from my account, I was not comfortable with this and was advised by the rep there was an app I could download and make payments by credit card. So I did, I paid my monthly payments up to date. In January I went to pay and this option was not available (it says billing information unavailable try again later) so eventually I just paid through online banking for January and February, On February 8 I received a letter advising me that my insurance would be cancelled as of March 3rd unless I paid 514.00. (The remainder of my yearly payment is only 369.00). So I contacted Bélair via online chat and was told the extra charges were for non payment??? I asked for a detailed statement of my payments and charges and was told they would not provide such a statement unless I paid the 514.00 to have my policy reinstated. I was told by the rep that I could make this payment by credit card on the website or app, I can not, there is no longer an option for me to pay by credit card…it continues to say temporarily unavailable (since January). I didn’t ask for this…when Bélair bought out Johnsons my payment method should not have been changed. As it stands Bélair has canceled my insurance (that is paid up to date) I guess because I refused to give them my banking information over the phone. I was happy with Johnsons for 13 years, no claims, no missed payments. 6 months with Belair and my policy has been cancelled and I have no insurance.

One of the most horrible experiences…

One of the most horrible experiences I've ever had. In the midst of probate BelAirDirect canceled the insurance policy after they said they wouldn't. I'm copying portions of the letter I sent to them below for the full story. Go to any other company, especially in the midst of any estate dealings.

EXCERPTS of LETTER SENT:
Dealing with Belairdirect at this time of grief after my mother’s passing and her estate has been horrendous. I feel the situation you left me in was criminal and even consulted with an attorney about the cancellation. They agreed that the behaviour of your agents and company was horrible and unprofessional but that being dishonest is, unfortunately, not always illegal.

My parents paid monthly premiums on this policy for 50 years.

When my mother passed away I immediately informed BelAir of the situation and explored possibilities for selling the house or renting. It was a time of enormous grief and so I reached out to the professionals at your insurance company to gather information to help with finalizing her estate.

At that time I was informed at that time that if I rented the house you would not be able to insure the property since it was a high-value property. I was assured that the policy would stay as is until I informed you what I intended to do. But this turned out to be false information.

As I was deciding to sell the property, which I couldn’t do at the time because it was still in probate, I received a letter from your company saying the policy would be cancelled as of March 1 because the house was vacant. (I was at the house to receive the registered letter.) The house was not vacant.

When I spoke with Justin this month, instead of receiving calm, professional guidance I got roadblocks at every turn. I have a full-time house sitter. In addition, [a] the property manager (who lives 2 miles from the residence and checks in every week) is someone whom my family and I have known for 40 years. To have your company insist I hire a ‘professional’ management company was ridiculous and insulting.

I was dumbfounded that you were unable to continue the insurance for one or two more months to have probate completed and have the house sold. That is predatory behavior and short-sighted on your part. Before this event I would proudly say what great insurance my parents had in Canada and how they were always secure with the support they received. Now I will not be able to say this but the exact opposite.

Shame on Belairdirect for truly dishonorable practices and treatment of their clients.

You will be screwed over, even when your not at fault!

DO NOT GET BELAIRDIRECT AS YOUR CAR INSURANCE COMPANY THEY WILL COMPLETELY SCREW YOU OVER!!

Was in an accident that was 100% not my fault and my car ended up being a write off. They are screwing me around with trying to get a settlement worth what it would cost me to get the same car or equivalent in my area with same km. I also have to bring my rental back in 2 days, so i will be left without a rental and left without a vehicle and without a cheque to even purchase a vehicle, so i have no way back and forth to work (i work out of town so busing is not an option). When speaking with them and the manager, they just dont seem to care at all and just said this was their policy and theres nothing they will do for me as thats the policy. I tried saying i dont even have a cheque yet to buy a new car as we are negotiating and they said that doesnt matter, i said if i accept your sad offer i still need time to find and purchase a car and they said there was still nothing they could do. So im basically screwed and they dont care. So they dont care if you need the vehicle to get back and forth to work to make money to pay for their insurance and house and food. They dont care if i lose my job or house or starve. They are not on your side even when you are 100% not at fault. What is the point of paying for insurance to have your back when you need them and they basically tell you tough shit not our problem??!!

Corruption

Corruption - thats all I can say!
This company doesn't care about people!
I missed a payment, had no idea I missed a payment. I got no phone call, no mail. They cancelled my policy without telling me. When I called they said they sent registered mail, they did NOT. then had the audacity to tell me I signed for it, I did NOT receive any cancellation mail from them. When I called to make it right and pay what was owed right away I did that and they still cancelled and then requoted me at 3x the price.. They've absolutely screwed me moving forward and they are corrupt

Avoid BelairDirect

Avoid BelairDirect – Unfair and Frustrating Experience

I’ve been a policyholder with BelairDirect for my home insurance. After my recent divorce, my renewal came up, and I decided not to continue with them. However, they insisted that my ex-wife had to confirm the cancellation, even though I explained that I have no way of contacting her. Instead of assisting me fairly, they increased my monthly premium by about $100 without justification.

This experience has been incredibly frustrating and unfair. No customer should be forced to continue a policy they don’t want, especially under these circumstances. I do not recommend Belair Direct to anyone looking for flexible and reasonable service. I’ve since blocked them from my bank account to prevent unauthorized charges

They have been screwing my son in law…

They have been screwing my son in law around. They take their monthly premium out, send it back and say it's NSF, so they ding him another 40.00 and say it's the banks fault. My son in law has a bank print out showing he had adequate funds for the insurance. Now they're saying he has to pay them 500.00 by the middle of next month, if not they will cancel his insurance and charge him 1000.00 cancelation fee. Stay away from this company. People are struggling right now and this company makes it more difficult.

Disappointing Experience with Belair

I’m incredibly frustrated with Belair Direct’s unwillingness to provide a written letter of experience (LoE) for my daughter’s driving record and claim history. This is a standard request for any insurance company, and their refusal makes no sense, especially since they’re willing to provide the same information verbally to other insurance companies.

To make matters worse, I was sent on a wild goose chase to obtain the LoE, only to receive inconsistent and contradictory information from their representatives. It felt like I was being run in circles, with no one taking accountability for resolving my issue.

As a customer, I expect clarity, consistency, and a willingness to accommodate reasonable requests. Unfortunately, Belair Direct fell short on all counts. I would not recommend them based on this experience.

VERY DISAPPOINTED - DECLINED TREAMENT NOT AT FAULT

I've been with BelairDirect for a long time. I was involved in a car accident. travelling more than 100 km/h on the highway. Someone chooses to cut into my lane and fully stop his car. He fled the scene and the police after reviewing my dashcam footage. He said, No one can possibly stop on time. Therefore, I'm no longer at fault. I'm almost permanently having problems with my left leg and ankle due to a breakage from my previous surgery. Hoping for treatment. Belairdirect sends me to an unprofessional doctor then declines treatment for me. I'm very disappointed. Walking with a mass that is constantly repeating itself in my ankle joints is driving me a lot of pain and suffering because it is now affecting me mentally and physically

Terrible service, too expensive.

Been trying together my car insurance premiums down. Called last week. Was cut off. Agent didn’t get back to me. Followed up three times. No response. Went to RBC Insurance (AVIVA). Quote in a few days - 28% cheaper. Called Belair to cancel. All of a sudden, offered discount. Client since 1992, see ya.

I have been switched to BelairDirect from Unifund.

I have been switched to BelairDirect as I was with Unifund and they might have been bought by Belair... So, my review pertains to first contacts and opening an account online with them (no claim experience yet). So, based on the above, I have nothing but good things to say about Belair for now. We will see what the future has in store and I will post another review at that time!

stay away from this company

i have been an anthony insurance customer for the last 10 plus years with no claims or tickets at all and also no issues.as we all know belair is taking over the insurance industry and as of my latest renewal i got switched to these scumbags. they reacently out of nowhere cancelled my policy for "none payment" which was clearly a mistake on their end no notice or heads up nothing. after 2 weeks with no insurance and without knowing because of their lack of communication i found out through my mobile app the policy has been cancelled. so i hopped on the phone to see what the issue was. they told me the policy was cancelled and they would not be reinstating it. so here i am now with no insurance and a black mark on my insurance history thanks to this "company". so now i am having to take more time off work to get my insurance dealt with all because of this poor excuse of an insurance provider. i wish i could give negitive stars because this company is no good for nothing other then making an already difficult day to day life harder. i would not recommend this bunch of no good for nothings to my worst enemy. shame on you belairdirect SHAME ON YOU!!

Disheartening Experience with Belaire Direct - A Longtime Client's Perspective

I am truly disheartened to share my experience with Belaire Direct after being a devoted client for nearly a decade. Throughout the years, I have consistently paid my premiums on time and always held this company in high regard. However, my recent claim, initiated in July 2024, has completely changed my perception.
The troubles began shortly after filing my claim. I was assigned to an adjuster whose responsiveness was alarmingly minimal. Despite my repeated attempts to communicate effectively—through emails and phone calls—there was a marked lack of engagement. On several occasions, I sought to escalate my case to his supervisor, which turned out to be a frustrating process in itself. It took four requests just to receive confirmation that his manager would reach out to me, and as of today, I am still waiting for that call, which was promised on October 9, 2024.
One particularly troubling encounter involved the adjuster insisting on a co-payable cheque for an item I had purchased. Thankfully, the vendor rejected this practice, highlighting the inconsistency in the adjuster’s approach. What followed was an even more disconcerting experience: I was presented with a settlement offer that was thousands of dollars below what I was insured for. The adjuster further complicated matters by stating that my alternative option was to repurchase the exact same item within a year and provide a receipt—a daunting task given the rarity of the item in question.
To add insult to injury, my inquiries regarding additional claims have gone unanswered, leaving me feeling neglected and undervalued as a client. This entire ordeal has been emotionally and financially draining, and it starkly contrasts the high standards of service I once believed Belaire Direct upheld.
I am genuinely disappointed in how this company has handled my situation, especially considering my previous enthusiasm in recommending their services to friends, family, and colleagues within the property management sector. I had always viewed them as a reliable provider, but my recent experiences have fundamentally changed my perspective.
I share this review not just to express my frustrations but in the hope that it serves as a learning opportunity for the company. It’s crucial that Belaire reassesses its client communications and support protocols, particularly for long-term clients like myself who rely on timely assistance during challenging times. I sincerely hope that future clients do not have to endure the same level of disappointment I have faced.

Unresponsive claim agent at Belair Direct…

I have been trying to get a claim resolved from February 2024 with Belair Direct Insurance Co, with a claims agent who has been unresponsive to my inquiries and trying to get this claim paid after multiple attempts on my part. This is beyond bad customer service and needs to be reported. My claim no is 1034943857. If someone could please reach out to get this resolved.

I was insured by Johnson Insurance for…

I was insured by Johnson Insurance for over 40 years. I made one claim last year for my travel trailer and when my policy came up for review Belair cancelled my coverage. And because they say I made two claims it caused me nothing but grief trying to get my brand new $ 70,000 travel trailer insured... That was my first issue with them.
Then when I dug into my home coverage it was so much inferior to what Johnson was covering me for. Now, try getting ahold of them. Near impossible..!! I did manage to move my home policy to another provider, much better coverage at a lesser rate. I'm in the process now of moving my vehicle insurance from them and like my home policy I have a much better rate. The only issue I'm having now is getting in contact with them.. If you are looking for home and auto coverage do yourself a favour and do not allow this Mickey Mouse outfit insure you. Johnson was so much better. Sad after 40 years I am forced to move on... If i could give Belair a minus on stars I would, but unfortunately, I'm forced to give them 1, which is far better than what they deserve.

Price is too high

I believed this insurance would have the best the rates or so it seems, but not so. I signed up online to see what the rate was, I was quoted just a bit over 1k. When I called, the person I talked to added another $200. to that price saying that I don't have home insurance with them so the rate goes up. One month later they added another $50. For being an excellent driver, no convictions, no accidents and no tickets in over 20 years I would expect a better rate. I will not be renewing my insurance with them come next year.

Most terrible company ever! Zero rate if possible!

We were switched to Belairdirect from Johnson for home & auto insurance. Assured by a Belairdirect agent our coverage would remain as it was with Johnson. I was shocked when I read the huge list of exclusions on the home policy, included almost everything you could possibly claim on a home insurance claim. Unfortunately, I read this a few months after the switch (mostly because I was assured coverage would not change). I felt I was lied to. I then changed companies and was charged a $235 cancellation fee. Then today I see on my online banking they plan to withdraw another $14.49 tomorrow.
If I had chosen Belairdirect I would have read reviews ahead of time, as I always do when making a large purchase. But the decision to switch was made by Johnson.
After I made the decision to leave Belairdirect, I spoke to an agent still at Johnson and told him about the list of exclusions on the Belairdirect home policy. He was totally shocked and agreed it excluded almost everything. Don't believe a word you here from a Belairdirect agent.
And try to get any customer service from them. I called in and there was a 2 hr wait time to speak to someone. A choice was given to have a call back within 2 hrs, which I chose. That call never came. I then dialed in again and after waiting almost 90 minutes I hung up. I am retired now. I don't know how people who work all day can possibly manage to deal with this garbage. Who can wait on the phone for 2 hrs or wait 2 hrs for a callback (which may never come) if you are a work?
This is truly the worst company I have ever dealt with.
Johnson was not like this at all. I never waited more than a minute or two, if any, on the phone. We were covered with Johnson for at least 35 years and any claim went smoothly and fairly. In fact, when a repair to our Jetta was made improperly and found by another company that was doing some maintenance, Johnson immediately got the repairs done again, this time correctly. No fuss, no muss, just done right.
Too bad Johnson made this bad decision to switch.
