Blue Car Rental Iceland Reviews 

The KIA we received was far from new. It desperately needed new wiper blades (it rains nearly every day in Iceland), the maintenance light came on the first day of our journey and there was an issue with the parking sensors. Unfortunately none of this came to our attention upon pickup, we were several hours away. In addition the vehicle was a plug in hybrid but no plug/cord is provided and the battery was nearly dead when we received it. Non of this seemed concerning to the agent upon drop off.

Great service. The staff responded quickly to emails. The car was in good condition; I didn't have a single problem with it over the course of 8 days.

We booked three cars with Blue Car Rental ( 12 persons / family trip) and everything went very smoothly. We took out full cover insurance. The cars were in very good condition and were very clean. Communication via email was always friendly, and the team was very helpful and responsive. One of the cars had a flat tyre after hitting a pothole, and everything was handled. Check in on line, easy (and fast) to have the keys thanks to a key box, and drop off very fast also. If we return to Iceland, we’ll hire our car from Blue Car Rental again ;-)

The entire experience was awful, I will skip all of the smaller issues and just address the larger one. I booked a Rav4 but upon pickup was given a high mileage Kia. The vehicle had a fuel pump issue but in lieu of fixing the repair it was made my issue when their mechanic simply reset the "check engine" light. Upon driving the 50 or so miles away from the office my car broke down on me a few hours after picking it up. I contacted Blue Car and basically was advised I was on my own to find a mechanic and remedy the issue myself. After multiple calls and pleas to Blue Car I fully realized I was completely on my own with their broken down car. I was forced to drive the car back to their Reykjavic office to swap it out. The car kept breaking down and my family was placed in a very unsafe situation. I did get in writing via Email from Blue Car that they would "wire" me all of the costs associated with remedying this issue on my own. Nearly one and a half months has passed and they are now ignoring all my emails and I am left with no return of my money to remedy their issue.

I booked a Smart #5 (AWD) for my Iceland trip. I later found out Road 332 (a gravel road to Háifoss, not an F-road) is apparently restricted for this vehicle — but this was never mentioned during booking. The vehicle page only says "not permitted on F-roads."

When I contacted support, I was initially told the Smart #5 is allowed on F-roads — which was later corrected. Even their own team was confused.

I asked to switch to a Suzuki Vitara, which is listed at the exact same price on their website. They refused, charging me an extra 57,970 ISK due to "dynamic pricing."

I chose Blue Car for its "zero excess, full transparency" reputation. The reality: hidden restrictions, inconsistent support, and extra charges for a problem they caused.

Tip: Before booking, email them to confirm your vehicle is allowed on every road you plan to drive. The booking page doesn't tell you everything.

A very trustworthy, local car rental company. We rented twice from Bluecar and we were satisfied every time. Whenever we faced with any issues or had questions, we got shortly answer from the customer service. We bought full insurance for the car to avoid any additional costs in case of damage, but never had an issue or request for extra or hidden payments. They have a good selection of cars and those are pretty new ones. We used the contactless check-in/pick-up, never had any issues, all went smoothly. I am sure we will use Bluecar during our third trip to Iceland.

We rented from Blue twice during our stay in Iceland. We decided to go with them based on online reviews, specifically zero hassle when it comes to any type of damage (specifically related to Icelandic weather etc).

Of all the places I've rented from in the world, Blue had the fastest pickup and dropoff process ever. Other companies need to learn from them.

Excellent experience. I never purchase rental car insurance, but I'm glad I got all their insurances and road side assistance. The dirt roads can be very rough with large pot holes and you have to avoid the idiot tourists that have never driven on dirt roads. The wind can be hurricane force straight line winds. We got a tire blowout because the other oncoming car wouldn't get out of the middle of the road, forcing us onto the very edge of the dirt road. We changed the tire in minutes, but called road side assistance to get the tire replaced. They said we just put on the spare and replacing the tire is "not their job". I thought we were in for a big hassle or fight with the car rental guys. I was so wrong. I called customer service and they got my location, looked up the closest repair shop (which was very close to our next stop), called the shop to verify repair, called back to confirm that they were waiting for our arrival. Pulled in and 15 minutes later we were rolling on a new tire with no out of pocket expense. I was shocked and impressed with the service. I highly recommend this rental company and just make sure you get all the insurances through the rental company.

Clean and new car, good drop-off and pick-up, but a bit expensive.

Suggestion for Blue Car Rental: Add a WhatsApp number for your business. If I rented your 5Gwifi because I don't have phone service, it's very difficult for me to call your help number in Iceland.

Very helpful staff. Car was in great condition and suitable for the roads. The information on the website was clear and accurate to allow me to make the right decision about the insurance I needed.
There were no hidden costs which usually occurs with car hire.

The pickup and dropoff procedures were quick and easy. No troubles with the car itself. It's a convenient short walk from the airport, so we didn't have to wait for a shuttle.

Our rental was ready to go when we landed at about 7 in the morning. We rented a Toyota Proace van and it accommodated the 5 of of us, all of our bags (5 mid-size luggage pieces and carry on luggage) with room to spare and we still had the option to use the 3rd row seating for added storage. At one point we ended up having a damaged rim (pot holes on some roads are brutal) but had opted for added protection, so it was repaired at no added cost to us in Eggilstaddir. Other than that, the experience was great, the rental was in great condition and drove well. Gas mileage was very good as well. The staff and support was very good all the way through from pick-up, road support and return. We drove throughout the country from Keflavik to the Westfjords, across north Iceland, down to Seydisfjordur and south through Hofn, VIK and back to Keflavik with no worries.

great service, afforable price. check in and out was prompt and efficient. we took the all included insurance for piece of mind. customer service was reactive and outstanding! only issue was with the portable wifi setup was glitching with android auto (couldn't connect to wifi when android auto was on) and we couldn't resolve this issue but it looks like its more the car manufacturer issue than Blue itself. anyhow very happy with their service

The car was reliable; I didn't have to wait in line when picking it up or dropping it off, all instructions were clearly laid out, and I was kept well-informed. I didn't waste time on unnecessary checks. Overall, I was satisfied, though I would note that car rental costs in Iceland are very high compared to the rest of Europe.

A really seamless process from start to finish - both picking up the car and dropping it off (even without the extra insurance) only took a few minutes. The car we received was in great condition with all the modern features you'd expect and was even an upgrade from what we'd originally ordered!

The staff were friendly and helpful and got us on our way quickly and efficiently.
