Simple Process

It was a simple process to strain a realistic quotation on the companies website site. My insurance is underwritten by Ageas which I have used before. The proof will be how well the company reacts if I unfortunately have an accident.

Budget insurance took a payment out of…

Budget insurance took a payment out of my account £1130 without my permission, I was previously insured with them and they had kept my account details on file with out my knowledge, had to take the morning off work to try to sort it out was talking to 3 different customer service operators and still no answer with they are going to refund me or not , my bank confirmed they took the payment.. very bad experience that a company can do this with no explanation

Greedy charges

I have been with budget for a number of years, however I will not use them again. They have consistently increased excess rates in policies without informing me.

I have previously selected to pay by monthly direct debit. In February 2026
I bought an old diesel golf as a going to work car, I contacted Budget hoping to get a deal to insure it with my existing policy, they wanted over £300 for the pleasure, despite my full no claims and getting zero customer loyalty or discount. I declined. I got a better level of cover with SAGA for half the price, so clearly they wanted my business.

In May/June I then gave my wife the Ford focus insured with Budget, I enquired about cancelling the policy, bearing in mind it is £15 a month.

Budget wanted £82 to cancel my policy, nothing short of greedy and underhand fees for pressing a button on a computer.

Budget will join the AA and Admiral group who have also fleeced me in the past.

Further update following the review being published. Budget tried to call me, but I was unavailable. They then emailed me to advise me to use the virtual assistant and state ‘I need to speak to someone’
When I connected to the assistant and got through to a human, they didn’t know why I was contacting them. I really have no patience for this kind of fake customer service.

While our charges and policy terms are detailed in the documentation provided throughout the policy term, we appreciate that they did not meet your expectations. We're also sorry that we were unable to offer a more competitive quote when you enquired about insuring an additional vehicle.

When policies are cancelled mid-term, as well as the cancellation fee, any additional extras included are purchased at the start of the policy and are required to be paid for.

Don’t trust what they tell you on the chat

I contacted Budget Insurance through the online chat. I wanted european breadown cover add on. An hour later the Budget rep had told me Switzerland was not covered at all to drive in and I would only have third party cover in the eu, only to change their mind when I questioned them further and tried to buy more add ons to make sure I was covered. A very frustrating waste of an hour with what should have been a simple add on. I don’t trust their reps, they have no idea about the products but pretend they do. Very dangerous mix when it’s important insurance.

Beware

Beware , make sure you screenshot your proposal form as this company will say it's incorrect and come back with an additional premium. Im contacting the insurance ombudsman as there trying to make me pay an additional premium for a none fault accident 4 years ago. Think twice

When obtaining a quote, we ask customers to disclose all accidents and claims within the requested period, including those where no fault was attributed to them. This information is required by our insurers when calculating premiums and helps to avoid any unexpected changes to the price once the policy has been set up.

If information comes to light after the policy has started that differs from the details originally provided, this can result in a change to the premium. We appreciate that this can be frustrating.

Avoid

Wanted nothing to do with investigating the matter when we got crashed into, spent 3 months chasing them to keep getting passed on to 3rd party companies who just slap the details on a file and never look into it. Chased them 6 times over 3 months. Gave up in the end. Will never use Budget again.

Where do I begin! So Disappointing

Where do I begin!

1. My insurance is due for renewal. Budget emailed me to renew my insurance with a link. Can I renew it? NO. Why? Cloudflare will not allow me access to the Budget website to renew my insurance. I am Blocked, reason unknown.

2. Contact Budget you say. How? Emailed, twice, explaining the situation. Response. None!

3. If all fails, download the app! How? Unable to download the app because all searches on the App Store bring up Zero results.

You have to question. If you are blocked from Budget every which way, then how confident are you they would ever sort anything out if you had an accident, or worse?
