Went for a Valentine’s meal

Went for a Valentine’s meal. Lovely atmosphere, the staff were really helpful, as usual the food was very good, can’t go wrong with a fish meal and lovely deserts. One of our favourite places.

Total rip-off Christmas Day dinner

My in-laws stayed at the hotel over the Christmas period and so decided to book for Christmas Day dinner.expecting a high-quality festive experience. What we got was an overpriced, badly organised and deeply disappointing day that felt like a total rip-off.
We were not allowed to pre-order our dinner prior to xmas day, so when the starter arrived which I didn't like, I asked the waitress if there was an alternative, she replied no, that alone is unacceptable at this price point. The main course was just as disappointing - the meat was wafer thin, the food time it came out onto our table in individual dishes and we served not our plates was cold, and everything tasted bland and rushed.
The dresser was the best part, but even then there was no mince pie or any real Christmas touch, which felt like a missed opportunity and showed a real lack of attention to detail.
The drinks pricing was just as poor. We were charged £38 for a very basic bottle of wine, which felt wildly overpriced for what was clearly cheap wine.
There was also very little attention to detail in how the tables were set up, nothing felt festive, polished or well thought out. Our friends were seated in the tipi, and several elderly guest couldn't;t even get down there to join the welcome drink, which was both awkward and poorly planned.
To make things worse, after paying such a high price, we were even charged extra for coffee, which left an especially bad final impression.
I have sent two emails to Crescent Turner since the meal and received no response, which says a lot about Sarah the owner.
Overall this was meant to be a special Christmas treat, but it turned into a frustrating and very disappointing experience. For £130 per person, this fell far below what anyone should reasonably expect. I would not recommend Crescent Turner for a festive meal - far better value and quality can be found elsewhere.

One word…. Impressive

My two friends and I stayed for two nights recently so that we could discover Whitstable.
This boutique hotel is run in both a friendly and efficient professional manner.
All staff are all consistent in their customer service in a positive way. They cannot do enough for you.
The food is superb and I recommend the prawns with chorizo starter. So much so, that I had them both nights!
The views are stunning and I recommend room 3 for its amenities.
Thank you so much for our stay, my friends are not generally returners in hotels, this one is different and they are going to make an exception.

Stunning

Found out about this gem from a colleague. We were not disappointed- from the friendly greeting on our arrival till our departure the following day - it was sheer bliss. The grounds are magnificent, the rooms and views are to die for. The interior of the building is so thoughtfully done - so many creative ideas. The bed was hugh and extremely comfortable. Breakfast was delicious - we also had dinner - yum yum. The staff and owners are extremely helpful and friendly - made it like home away from home. Thank you guys especially Sarah - you are the gem with a vision. 💯

Where to start with this one?

Where to start with this one? This was our second stay here and we enjoyed our first stay, which was a Valentines treat for my wife but it was sadly blighted by the room being quite grubby. There was dark mould in the shower that needed attention, the chair and sofa covers were both stained, there was some kind of cream on the underside of a table lamp and we even found a used contact lens on the floor. The shower head and controls were in need of descaling. There was also mould on the net curtain in the room. The room, if it had been cleaned, was cleaned to a standard that ill befits a hotel charging, on that occasion £190.00 for the night. On top of all this, the underside of the toilet seat in the gents toilet near Reception was in a quite disgusting state. It states in the hotel brochure that “Rooms are cleaned to the highest standard”. I complained by e-mail and was promised a discounted room on our next stay and was also promised by the lady involved (who has sadly now left) that my concerns were being addressed in full and that the cleaning team had been told that every room in the hotel was to be deep cleaned. The chair in the room was to be reupholstered and a new sofa bed was to be ordered. I really was made to feel that my complaint had been taken seriously and this was accompanied by a refund of £100.00.

The hotel is in a fantastic location with wonderful views across The Swale towards The Isle of Sheppey. Check in is fast, efficient and friendly. The interior of the hotel is tastefully decorated and the staff who we encountered on both stays were terrific.

On our second stay, check in was just as good and we were quickly shown to our room. Like the first room that we stayed in it was lovely, well laid out and tastefully designed. A complimentary bottle of fizz was delivered to us shortly afterwards which we really appreciated as a nice touch. Unfortunately we had already noticed some cleaning shortcomings - there was a thick layer of dust on the glass table and one of the chairs in the middle of the room which we were told was probably “Shake and Vac” (Other brands are available lol ) and there were coffee stains down the fronts of both bedside tables. The dark mould that we had seen in the shower of the first room was also in evidence here along with considerable dirt on the outside of the shower tray. There was also a large mark of some sort on the ceiling and worst of all the toilet had not been cleaned properly and there were marks from the previous guests still evident!!

Bearing in mind that this was the weekend of the Oyster Festival in Whitstable and that rooms in the hotel were being sold for £350 a night, if I had paid that I would simply have demanded my money back, but that wasn’t the case. I had paid £100 for the night which is, in my opinion, still a lot of money for one night in a hotel. I didn’t want to make a scene and certainly wasn’t after any further refunds or reductions but really felt that it was important to make the hotel management team aware of the things that we had found. I made my way to Reception and asked the young Manager, Harry if I could borrow him for a few minutes. I showed him around the room and to his enormous credit, within five minutes he had his hands down the toilet giving it a good scrub. Harry is a great credit to the hotel and he also cleaned off the coffee stains and the carpet cleaner from the table and chair.

The rest of our stay was really quite uneventful. We slept reasonably well despite the lack of air conditioning and breakfast was a relaxed and pleasant affair.

I emailed again after this stay to air my disappointment but mainly to reiterate my thoughts about the cleaning team and the poor job that I feel they do. I listed the shortcomings and stated that I felt as if the hotel had failed us again. The reply that I had from the Manageress actually made me laugh.

TripAdvisor rules prevent me from quoting the reply here but Kirsty, the Manageress told me that she and a colleague had inspected the room before our arrival and that they felt that the room was in a more than satisfactory condition for guests to use and that the standards she considers suitable for guests do not meet with my expectations. She apologised for the mark on the ceiling.

So, if your expectations are that the toilet in your room should not have excrement from previous guests in evidence and that you should be able to sit on a chair in your room without getting covered in dust and that the room as a whole should have been professionally cleaned then this might not be the best place for you to stay. My eyesight isn’t the best and I noticed the grime on the table within about thirty seconds of entering the room, how the Manageress and her colleague missed it absolutely baffles me. I would have marked the hotel as a five without the poor cleaning but the email from Kirsty shocked me so much that I’ve scored it a one as it’s such an appalling indictment of the hotels standards.

I have stayed in five hotels with work in the past week and a half costing from £65 to £95 and I can honestly say, hand on heart, that all five of them had cleaner rooms than The Crescent Turner. A very sad state of affairs.

Since I first posted this review elsewhere, the Manageress has accused me of falsifying the above claims regarding the cleanliness of the rooms and of writing this as they would not give me discount on a further stay which is quite untrue. I actually said to her on the morning of our checkout that I wasn’t after anything but just wanted to inform the management team of how their cleaning staff were letting them down. As I stated above “I wasn’t after any further refunds or reductions.”

You can see from my other reviews that I speak as I find and I have no personal quarrel with this establishment- it’s simply an honest review.
