The whole experience was great

The whole experience was great - the Leah who helped me choose my new glasses and sunglasses was patient and calm which is what is needed when buying such an expensive item. Would recommend for the thorough eye test too.

Brian, Wokingham

Easy to book online. I was seen promptly & the optometrist explained the whole process & results of my eye test. The only think that wasn’t evident was that I would need a separate appointment for a contact lens check. The optometrist said they would have done that but they had another appointment immediately after mine.

Excellent Service

Been going here for a few years now and can not fault them. Service is brilliant and all the staff are really friendly. Krupa was really lovely and thorough and explained everything.

Taken over £500 and gave my glasses away to a stranger, refusing to refund me!

I placed an order for glasses on Friday (26th June) and was advised they would be ready by Wednesday (1st July). I visited the store today (Thursday 2nd), having taken the day off work and explained the importance of collecting them due to personal circumstances.

Initially, Sahil informed me that the glasses were not ready followed by asking me to return in around an hour whilst he finds out on the status of them (if they’re still being made). I came back approximately 90 minutes later, only to be told that someone had apparently collected my glasses on Tuesday. The store was unable to explain how this had happened and advised that they would need to make me a completely new pair.

After waiting a further 10 minutes while staff continued serving other customers, I requested a refund as I no longer had confidence in the service and would rather take my business elsewhere. I was then told I would need to wait while they investigated how the error had occurred before they could process the refund.

Overall, I am extremely disappointed with both the handling of my order and the customer service I received. I am now over £550 out of pocket, without the glasses I urgently needed, and have been forced to order another pair elsewhere at additional cost because I require them within the next day.

Mistakes can happen, but the lack of accountability, communication, and urgency in resolving the situation has been unacceptable. Based on my experience, I would not recommend this store.

UPDATE (7th July):
Still waiting on them as they’ve said they’re awaiting CCTV footage and they refuse to refund me till they review and admit they have messed up. The manager Ugo also refuses to speak on the phone with me. Stay far away from this company as they have been appalling.

Amazing Service at David Clulow Cambridge

Having been a customer of David Clulow in the past, I recently went back for a check-up and had what I can honestly say was some of the best service I’ve received so far.

The optician was incredibly friendly and supported me throughout the entire consultation. It was a really interactive experience. I actually learned a lot about my eyes and felt completely confident following his suggestions.

I also want to give a huge thank you to Taz, who helped me with my glasses. We ran into a minor issue initially, but she guided me through the entire return process and helped me select a new pair of sunglasses. There was absolutely no rush and no pressure. Since these are my everyday, essential items, I left feeling like I’d made the absolute right choice. Highly recommend the David Clulow Cambridge team!

Terrible customer service

Very disappointed with my experience at David Clulow Wigmore Street.

I purchased two pairs of prescription varifocal glasses and was advised they would take up to two weeks to arrive. It’s now been over 21 days and I still have no idea when they’ll be ready.

The delay itself is frustrating, but the lack of communication has been worse. I’ve submitted multiple enquiries, missed a call from the branch, tried calling back several times, and was promised an email update that never arrived.

I’ve already made two payments through a credit agreement and am still waiting for a basic update. Delays happen, but customers shouldn’t have to repeatedly chase for information.

Great service

The staff were all extremely helpful. In particular the optometrist reworked her schedule to ensure I could come back same day for some more extensive checks.

Good range of frames to choose from too.

Really great customer service. Just really impressed with the explanations. Not once did I feel like they just wanted my money or for me to buy unnecessary add ons etc.

The eye test itself was very good, but...

The eye test itself was very good, and I'd say they did an excellent job. However, the sales experience afterwards left me feeling a bit cold.
It quickly became clear that they wanted to sell me a full design advisory service, which I wasn't interested in. By the time we got to what I actually wanted—new lenses fitted into my existing frames—I was presented with just one option: a very expensive set of "Boost" lenses at around £450 fitted. Apparently, these were the only lenses they recommended.
After asking a few more questions, I discovered there was another option: Ray-Ban lenses, which were only marginally cheaper. I don't mind paying for the best if it's genuinely the right choice, but I like to be given options rather than feeling railroaded into a single expensive recommendation.
Before making a decision, I'll be looking at Boots and Specsavers, as I'm not convinced I need to spend this much on replacement lenses.
What ultimately made this a 3-star experience rather than a higher rating was the sales approach. The optometry side was excellent, but I came away with the impression that the salesperson was pushing an agenda rather than helping me find the best solution for my needs. That's something I have a strong aversion to.

A dedicated optometrist who genuinely cares for his patients' eye health

I want to sincerely thank Mr. Nicholas Aliwell for the outstanding care I received during my recent eye test. Unlike my past experiences where junior staff handled many of the tests, Mr. Aliwell personally attended to me throughout every stage—from the various pressure and peripheral tests to the sight test with the letters. He took the time to explain the purpose and importance of each test, which made me feel confident and well informed.

What impressed me most was his patience; he answered all my questions without rushing and even went beyond the scheduled 30 minutes to ensure everything was done properly. When I struggled with the peripheral test—a crucial one for me given my family history of glaucoma—he was dedicated enough to offer a follow-up appointment the next week to complete it.

Overall, Mr. Aliwell showed remarkable dedication and meticulous care. It’s clear he genuinely cares about his patients’ health, and I left feeling reassured and deeply appreciative of his professionalism.
