Dreadful experience
When booking, when I selected to book, the price kept going up, and I had to accept an amended price. By the time I accepted the price amendment, it had gone up again. So the booking experience was poor. Later, I wanted to ask a specific question before we travelled, but it is impossible to speak to a person. (I tried an online search for contact details without success.) You cannot even live chat with a person, just a bot with limited options for questions.
I had to change the date of the return journey which was easy enough - I received a confirmation email and the new time was my confirmed journey in the app. However, we were unable to check in, as the booking was not showing at the carriers end. They managed to sort it after 20 minutes, but said that bookings made through Direct Ferries could be problematic.
So the clunky booking with no way to lock a price, lack of human support when automated options are not sufficient and a confirmed booking that the carrier struggled to find mean I will never book using Direct Ferries again.

I had three ferries to book and all were easy to book.
Confirmation was almost instant and I was surprised I could book almost a year in advance.

P&O terrible service. It took 2H to completed check in on P&O gates. So We missed our ferry and were checked in by P&O for the ferry 3,5H later. !
Calais terminal visiting was also awful experience
I will never buy the Channel ferry service , for P&O in particular
