Holding my money hostage

Here's the obvious way to improve your company. When someone has money with your company they are expecting to get something of value in return...I believe that's the law. The reason I have money in my cash account is to make trades (Go figure). You cannot freeze the account indefinitely because you feel like it or are incompetent (Or both). You can't blame another department of your own company. I believe that's called a non-delegable duty.

Truely terrible customer service

Truely terrible customer service. I have called five times trying to get access to my account. Each time I am given a different story and the person explains why the previous person did something wrong. I still cannot access my account after more than ten days.

SOMEONE REPORT THEM!!!

Can we not report these fools to some regulatory body??! I’ve been waiting on a quick sale of my ESPP shares that they’ve held up bc of some bogus new account holder information questionnaire for details like my marital status!! I recd my shares on Dec 31st and they are just sitting there even though I’m set up for quick sale. As I watch the stock price drop!!! Surely that’s reportable! I hate E*Trade. I’m only using them bc of my employer or I’d be outta there. The reps are very supportive and a few even said “it’s abysmal the way that “backoffice” is delaying me. But it doesn’t seem to help at all. I wait each day and talk to someone new checking that the back office has what they need but they won’t lift the new account restriction. Only here’s the best part. I’ve had the account for years now. Years. And they restricted my account 6 months ago for the same issue!! Same questions. They. Are. The. Worst!

ETrade shuts down your checking…

ETrade shuts down your checking accounts with no warning almost monthly. You then have to call in to provide some proof that perfectly regular transactions (e.g payroll, credit card payments) are valid. Problem is they then take ~2-3 weeks to review what you submitted and reactivate your account, so you will miss payroll, bill payments, etc, repeatedly. Totally unacceptable

Can't go wrong

Call me crazy but I love their platform- sure, PowerTrader could use a little work in the UI department (it still has a great feature set), but between their banking products and their brokerage services, I have been nothing but pleased. I trade futures and their futures trading desk is killer, and worth every penny of the elevated cost per contract round-trip, just in peace of mind alone. CS is great and I've never had to talk to Rajeesh in Mumbai once, always get connected very quick and never had an issue resolving whatever the case may be. And I also haven't gotten my account locked like some of the other people on here are claiming, even transferring from my PayPal account to E-Trade. Not to mention the simplicity and ease of having a brokerage, futures, and checking account within a single institution, makes life a lot easier! Plus they offer Zelle and it works 100% of the time. (unlike fidelity which doesn't even have zelle with their CMA product)

Etrade zeroed out my account

Etrade zeroed out my account due to inactivity for 3 years. I was an original Sharebuilder account holder to ING, then Capital One previously with no problem.
No notifications at all, no email, text or phone call. Out $8k. New way of profits is making money off of nothing..

After decades of experience...

My experience with Etrade spans decades. I have moved accounts in and out for numerous reasons. Several months ago, after a multi-year absence, I moved three IRA accounts into Etrade. Customer service, which was once superb, has become virtually non existent. Etrade will never enjoy my money ever again. There are other brokerage firms that have far superior services. Look elsewhere...

Terrible experience with etrade

My experience with E*TRADE has been overwhelmingly negative. While I will acknowledge that individual customer service representatives were generally polite and professional, that is the only positive aspect of this platform.

My direct deposit was withheld without clear justification, multiple accounts were frozen, and my brokerage account became inaccessible with little transparency or timely resolution. Despite repeated calls, I received inconsistent explanations and no meaningful accountability. The operational handling of my funds created unnecessary stress and financial disruption.

Most frustratingly, E*TRADE refused to grant even basic trading permissions, including Level 1 approval for covered calls—one of the most conservative options strategies available—despite providing all requested information and maintaining consistency in my application. The lack of flexibility, clarity, and fairness in their approval process is unacceptable.

Between frozen accounts, restricted access to my own money, and arbitrary limitations, I cannot trust this platform. I do not recommend E*TRADE to anyone. There are far more reliable brokerages that value transparency, consistency, and customer autonomy.

Absolutely appalling

They offer a bonus to open an account with them and put your savings and your direct deposit in it. You do it and they block your account for several days pending verification, locking you out of your salary money. Customer care useless. Don't bother.

Do not invest with ETrade

They do not disclose fees and then hide behind their terms and services. A simple routine transaction wiped out $75 on a $100 transfer without them disclosing the fee. When I called repeatedly to figure out what was going on, they initially said "Oh no, that has to be your bank we don't charge fees." Then afterwards they came clean but claimed there's nothing they can do since the fee is mentioned somewhere in tiny print on their website. What a bunch of crooks. Do not invest with ETrade, there are many other far more honest options out there.

Awful Service from a Once Great Broker

I have been with E*Trade and its predecessors for decades and had great service. That is until Morgan Stanley bought them out. The name is the same, but the service now is awful, too bad to actually detail. Having known what good service was, it is hard to settle for crap.

I am in the process of switching my account to Fidelity. If you are reading this, do yourself a favor and don't even bother using E*Trade.

Been using Etrade for three years now

Been using Etrade for three years now, within the past two months or so they've decided their online trading platform Power E Trade that they would delay stock quotes by 15 minutes, with no explanation How do you trade 15 minutes late on the stock market? Now my personal portfolio which usually gives news related to my stocks is days delayed breaking news How do you trade stocks when you don't have up to date news? These are both new Within the last couple months I've sent numerous messages to E trade asking for an explanation or when it would be repaired got crickets so now they get a review
