Refused a car based on unpublished arcane booking term

I was refused my car rental (EUR200) at Thrifty in Oregon (USA), which I booked through expedia.de. Thrifty supposedly requires an international driver's licence if you book through a non-US website. I provided an Oregon licence - to rent a car in Oregon - and was refused on this basis.

Expedia refuses to refund my money, referring to their T&Cs that I needed to check with Thrifty for their requirements. But Thrifty's website, while indicating other situations in which they require international licences, says nothing about this arcane requirement. I am flabbergasted that Expedia can take my money and not provide me a service, when I have done everything right.

Highly recommend NOT USING EXPEDIA for car rentals.

There is NO transparency

I booked a flight with Experia some monthd ago, and I was given the option to select my seats. I selected my seats and paid. Everything was OK in the app and my itinerary. A friend tried to book the same flight, amd when he was selecting their seat, MY seats were available to pick up. I immediately contacted Expedia and they assured everything was all right and my seats were 100% confirmed. Today I received an email saying there was a mostake and my seats were indeed not reserved. Now, i was told I will get them directly at the airport. Why did they give the option and the assurance of seats if they will just take it away from you?! I will never book with Expedia again.

We booked a trip through Expedia

We booked a trip through Expedia. Total was over 1000euro! For some reason they charged us a full amount in three separate payments, then reserved another 500eu in my account. Its been over 3 weeks and we still cant access the money! We spent over 6hours on the phone and they wont give it back no matter what!!! They keep blaming it on the airline even though our payment was made through Expedia website. Our debit card details were shared with other companies to make extra charges. If you deal with these scums, be prepared to go through hell and you will still not get your money back and they will just blame others!

On top of that we were put in hold for several hours, even ignored by their “supervisor” mid call she literally muted us while i was explaining her and then dropped the call.

We are currently preparing documents to take a legal action against this company.

Under no circumstances ever even attempt to use their services!!!

Promised a refund by agent but not given one

I had used expedia for years since I thought it would save me a little money. However, this last experience caused me to lose quite a bit of money, and I will never use them again because of this. I put a filter to look for flights with seat choice included because I was traveling with 6 other family members and I have 2 young kids. I buy the tickets and uh oh, there is no seat choice even though I specifically filtered for it. I speak to an agent who said it was an error and to go ahead and buy the seats on the airlines' website. It will be refunded. Well, that was not true, and I am now out quite a bit of money. I should have bought a flight that actually had seat choice instead which is what I had tried to do. It is in our conversation that this occurred, and they won't even own up to it. Instead they blamed the airline and said the airline would take care of it, which they didn't

Booked hotel stay through The Blue Light app that directed me to Hotels.com and ended up with making payment to Expedia.....

Biggest mistake ever!

Went into the Hotels.com website highlighted all the requirements that my family needed. Then went through the website and booked our stay.
Then made contact with the establishment and Hotels.com prior to the cancellation deadline and getting to the destination.
Every single amenities that I had paid for and looking forward to where highlighted at all responses back from Hotels.com and establishment.
Then we get to the hotel and the person at the desk tells us that there isn't free WiFi and No Pool! I was surprised.
What???????
I said impossible, this is not what I booked. Then I was informed of how it's not the establishment responsibilities on what is advertised out there it is the third parties and that I need to speak to the third party.....?????? But humm... is this establishment not the first party.....??????
Then the person at the desk says that I have to become a member of Marriot Bonvoy and sign in to be able to have access to free WiFi... .... I was surprised again... hummm.... where does it state that here on the advertised or on my receipt of the purchase or on the website......Why do I have to be a member???? We are only here on holiday/vacation.

I presented what I bought to the establishment and Hotels.com and ask to cancel with my refund and that was refused by the establishment and Hotels.com.

I was told by the establishment that Hotels.com have to cancel and provide our refund. I was informed by Hotels.com that the establishment is refusing to cancel and give the refund. So I was sent round in circles till to date. 29th April 2025.

The insurance that I purchase hasn't made its way to me yet......?

I booked an hotel based on a misleading information advertised on their third parties website, I payed for it [@$1703]. Then when I asked to cancel with a refund the establishment and Hotels.com refused to cancel and give me a refund to go elsewhere. Instead the establishment told me to go to third party, stripped the room, then changed the room to a room that I and my family got sick in, then change our room again to face the billboard. Let's not forget the hotels's maintenance service during our stay....

Hotels.com went in to modify their website and changed their fees ridiculously down. E.g @ $131 - $13 per night. Still advertising the pool but now within the amenities tab....there is no pool due to renovation..... still ambiguity, not clear within the advertising.

This has been a terrible stay. A mess! Horrible stay.

I would like my money back. Compensation back to my bank account please. Not to Hotels.com website......??

Booked a holiday through this company…

Booked a holiday through this company and on their website you can pay extra for allocated flight seats. I paid this and it came out of my bank account. When contacting Ryanair they have no record of allocated seats being paid for and Expedia are saying they have no record of it.
Contacted customer service whom I sent bank statement as requested and totally incompetence at dealing with it.
All I require is my money refunded for the allocated seats.
I feel this is a total con through their website and they are taking peoples money under false pretences.

DO NOT BOOK WITH THIS COMPANY

I am concerned about the level of…customer service and lack of attention to details

I am concerned about the level of customer satisfaction of service that I received when dealing with Expedia Denmark expedia.de and my flight and accommodations were cancelled after I boarded the flight and was midair during flight when someone fake called in and unauthorized lost the reservations and when I arrived at the travel location and called the hotline 800 number then the expedia agent told me someone else cancelled my bookings on my behalf and took the refund and I got nothing back and had to pay everything for my trip vacation a 2nd or 3rd time out of my own pocket.

Their website is completely unreliable and bugged. The conditions we experienced were completely unjustifiable.

We were left stranded with no resolution from expedia and a complete lack of customer service. To make matters worse, the few credits they briefly made available on my account disappeared within a few hours—credits we could have used when we booked a proper hotel for our last night in holiday after we simply couldn’t endure it any longer.

We are certain that we selected a room with a private bathroom, and we have no explanation for why we were assigned one without. These issues clearly stem from flaws in your system’s backend, which are evidently not under control. I would like to bring to your attention that we've filtered for accessible bathroom access. After researching your reviews, we found that this issue with the no bathroom room has happened to other clients as well—not just us. So why hasn’t this been fixed? It’s unacceptable that customers continue to face the same problems without any resolution from your side. It’s inexcusable that you have not taken steps to fix it.
All you did was sending us standard CS replies.
No one has understood my remark!
We will never book with expedia EVER IN OUR LIFE!

Extremely Disappointed with Expedia’s Customer Service

I am beyond frustrated with Expedia’s handling of my recent booking issue. I made a reservation at H2 Hotel Düsseldorf Seestern but realized my mistake just three minutes later. I immediately reached out to correct it, expecting at least some level of flexibility, but was met with nothing but a dismissive response.

Expedia claims they contacted the hotel, only to tell me that they refused my refund based on their strict cancellation policy. This is not the level of customer service I expect from a major booking platform. Instead of truly advocating for customers, Expedia hides behind policies and refuses to take responsibility or offer real solutions.

A company that values its customers would work harder to resolve such situations—especially when the mistake was caught almost immediately. I’ve used Expedia in the past, but after this experience, I will never book through this platform again. Their lack of customer support and rigid approach make them unreliable and untrustworthy for travelers.

If you care about flexibility, fairness, and decent customer service, avoid Expedia at all costs.

worst website I booked a Hotel ever.
As I arrived at the Hotel, no reservation. I contacted Expedia, were Hotel was booked and my credir card was charged, but all I received after many and different ways of tryinf to contact them, was an KI answer saying " contact the hotel", The Hotel said, there isno booking and no room available and they did not charge my credit card. My bank said, it was a secured and non refundable acction. My money was lost and I had no reservation. Never booked here on Expedia something else again!

DONT BUY TICKETS OR CRUISE OR HOTEL WITH EXPEDIA! YOU WILL LOOSE YOUR MONEY..!

I purchased a cruise for two people for $1,870, fully paid in August 2024. However, on the day of the trip (November 24, 2024), I was charged an additional $977. When I called to address this, I was told it was a mistake and that both charges would be refundable. They asked for a $400 cancellation fee for the refund process. Despite receiving an email confirming the refund, I have not received it, and now they are saying they won't refund it at all. The representative, assured me the refund would be processed. The service has been unethical, disrespectful, and highly disappointing, and I am requesting my money back immediately.

Not your relaxing holiday experience with nightmare of a customer service.

I booked a hotel with Expedia. At location I was told that payment through Expedia has issues, like any person would, I made payment with same card. After two days I see double payment on my card. This was 12th of December 2024. I contacted customer service, they said hotel will refund me money, easy peasy no? NO!
I still have not received the refund. Expedia so far has been able to provide me 'proof' that hotel refunded the money, but in proof I see one debit from my card, one credit in Expedia virtual debit card (card number ending not same as my card) and third one to got knows where (no card number, customer name mentioned). Now my money apparently is floating in limbo in between banks. I have no proof to take to my bank. Expedia customer service seems sadly incompetent to handle the issue. Today it's 11th of January 2025, money likely disappeared in ether!
Update: More than a month later, I received the refund. The refund initiation date 12th of January. I still regret back and forth conversations, lost time, lost mental peace and efforts.

nowhere near as good as it used to be unfortunately

I used to book a lot with Expedia u fortunately their customer service keeps getting worse, hard to reach anyone and they are nowhere near as helpful as they used to be. Also I don’t trust photos or descriptions on the website anymore, if the photos are perhaps 20 years old I find it misleading…

additional comment: I contacted expedia multiple times already, yet the possibly AI managed „customer service“ did not even understand the issue correctly and didn’t seem to care.

„We already tried calling the property, sending them emails but still no response. Due to this, we need to abide by the policy and restrictions of the booking.“

So if the hotel I book through Expedia doesn’t respond to complaints that’s apparently not a red flag for expedia but therefore a red flag for me to not use expedia anymore!!!

Hateful company and impossible to get refunded

Hateful, hateful company. My payment that I thought was going directly to a Paris hotel went through an Expedia third-party operation, which goes under various unlisted names (hotelreservation.com and others), and I lost my FULL payment when it was canceled, although I my hotel stated that a full refund could be obtained 2 days before (and it was more than that. I tried to get AMEX to use purchase protection to help and they said no go.

Why did I fall for it

Why did I fall for it? I'm still asking the question.

We searched for and selected an all inclusive package and the price quoted was cheaper than going direct to the Hotel.

When booking was confirmed it was for half board, it wasn't my mistake, I never search for anything other than all inclusive and once paid I have had to contact the Hotel to upgrade to all inclusive and check the booking dates.

So by the time we're finished we will be £200 each out of pocket.

I won't make the same error again, oh last time it was the flights but we put that down to the airline. This incident proves it is unlikely to have been a fault bey them.

Still it is my fault in the end I didn't check the response. So please check once, check twice and then a third time and if you're still not sure check again.
