Incredibly disappointing experience with Mozilla & Firefox account, don't care about GDPR either
Mozilla is one of largest organizations in the world being involved in technology and digital trust - see for instance the fact that Mozilla is one of the key root stores for digital certificates, which are a crucial component of a safer web (a job never done btw).
Mozilla's browser, Firefox, keeps evolving with ups and downs but has added very interesting features, such as the Firefox account which can be useful for sharing bookmarks and passwords across your devices.
I have been using different browsers, but Firefox, often provided by default on Linux, was one of my favorite ones, and the Firefox account seemed to work nicely.
This was true until 31 August, when I identified a more than likely trojan attack on my Windows computer, which appeared confirmed on VirusTotal.com as a serious one. That was all the more problematic that many commercial anti-virus didn't catch it and it appeared to mimic some system components.
One of the options in such case, if you don't have tools to stop the attack, is to reset your Windows system and keep your data.
Then, despite having my Firefox account password and 2FA app (as I took care to add a security step as soon as I set up my Firefox account), the connection process appeared to be changed, not asking me my 2FA but sending a code on a (potentially compromised) email account instead.
I contacted the Mozilla Firefox support asap, explaining the context of that likely security incident but :
- the support didn't react swiftly at all;
- no step whatsoever was taken to verify if I was the legitimate owner of the Firefox account
- the support ignored for six days or more my question about why the second verification step I set up was replaced by something else (my guess is that it was a conditional access policy, but Mozilla support should be able to manage that)
- Firefox support wasn't keen to stop sending codes to a potentially compromised email account, and those codes didn't work either ;
- as a kind of last resort, I then raised the issue to the compliance team, in charge, among other, of data protection and privacy matters. I took care to mention additional information to explain how critical this was for me. No response but, a number of days later, a meaningless message from the support that rephrased one of my questions but still, no help to understand what happened to my account;
- on my own, after 8 days, I managed to restore data from the Firefox account via Windows, something that is documented by Mozilla and that the support could or should have advised me to do asap.
- in that context, I then exercised my GDPR right of access with Mozilla compliance, to get access to the personal data linked to the usage of my Firefox account, to let me assess if there was any suspicious or illegitimate access to my account. Some kind of cut & paste generic message was received from Mozilla, but no personal data and no relevant information for this case at all - still the case as of today.
This gives me an incredibly disappointing experience, and it's still hard to believe that such an organization as Mozilla lets you down that way, especially after a potential or likely security incident, while a partial solution could at least have been provided by Mozilla support right on day one.
I love it but sometimes I find some…
I love it but sometimes I find some issues with the version 52.0 esr
don't know what firefox did last update…
don't know what firefox did last update but now all my videos run like laggy dog "you know what" if i could give a review with no stars i would
Apparently is sucking more recourses…
Apparently is sucking more recourses than it's competitors and malfunctions in some cases. Now they started to push leftists agenda with lgbtiqia+ spamming our email inbox with such immoral nonsense. Moxilla Firefox is dead for me.
Shame on them
Awful now. Used to be great.
Used to be great and I used nothing else, but now it is total rubbish. It sucks all of the RAM from my pc and it freezes so I have to physically switch pc off and restart as there is no resource to restart otherwise, yes 99%. One tab only and as soon as I open firefox it goes in 3 seconds to over 5GB RAM usage. Ther is no excuse for that. If you look up the problem on their site it says it needs that usage and tries to blame the user. Utter nonsense. I'm off to use Google Chrome now. So much better. Firefox's days are numbered.
I have been using FireFox for years…
I have been using FireFox for years with little problems, now it does seem to take over my system. I also purchased their VPN and it started wiping out my registry files and things just stop working. I am at a point of deleting everything from Mozillia, but will call their Customer Support first and come back with an update.
Firefox was the 'bees knees' but not anymore
Firefox used to be the 'bees knees' but not anymore.
Mozilla now uses users as guinea pigs, with the various trash thats found in 'about config' settings under 'experimental..!
I stopped Firefox updating for THAT very reason - forget asking them inb their forum, the only way to do it is by configuring Crap cleaner do to it in the tools tab. You gotta' show hidding files in folder options and point Crap Cleaner to a hidden folder in Program data, seek out Mozilla Updates and you get a up date folder, and Update lock, delete the folder and update lock.... you can delete the Mozilla folder and it's entire content. You have to let Crap Cleaner do this at every start up or everytime you open Firefox.
The two files are loaded as soon as you open Firefox.... even with the internet disconnected if you don't you gert updated.
To run salt in their wounds you need to STOP all their telemetry feedback activity.
mental'...!.
Speelin FAIL
So, Let's think of basics here. Spelling and integrated Apps. As of 2022 Firefox is not compatible English(GB), UK English fails to work with WhatsApp. No end of trying to add dictionnaires and reboots on PC's just DONT work...I used to use this as developer for testing work but no more
Browser diversity is important but...
Firefox is a great browser and if you're coming from chrome or a chromium-based browser (opra, edge, brave, etc) then it should be mostly the same and smooth experience. IMO though mozilla has gotten a bit spookier so if you want privacy you may need to configure it.
Infuriating
Infuriating. Logs me out of all my accounts. Wouldn't be so bad but it doesn't let me log back into them even when I give the correct passwords. Ditching it again, which means all my bookmarks go with it as well. It says I can reload them but this is also unreliable.
Used to be good, I used to donate, but no more, it wastes too much of my time.
The browser crashed my whole system
The browser crashed my whole system. Had to uninstall it and not use it anymore. The early versions were pretty good.

I am confused by mozilla's reports of passwords. The reports are almost allways wrong, and I can't see why.
Very Bad Experience
Takes ages to open when other browsers take seconds.
They used to be good 10 or 15 years ago. Not anymore.
Updates every time.
great and its fast
Firefox Nearly impossible to block pop-ups on android mobile devices
Firefox has made it incredibly hard to block pop-ups on Android mobile devices. There is supposedly a convoluted way to do it, by typing in about:config but on a moto g7, it shows a lock and tells you its not valid, and leads nowhere. To not have an easily accessible menu button to block pop-ups is crazy, and an incredibly bad design flaw. I give firefox minus stars. And am deleting this useless browser.
Your tab just crashed.""We're Sorry.....Firefox had a problem and crashed. We’ll try to restore your tabs and windows when it restarts."
Dont trust it
Dont trust it, there is back doors. Every time I post something about Native issue's, among other things on you tube that might go against the main stream views... firefox mysteriously crashes AFTER I have closed it.... every time.
I am the guy who created " Made by Gamers for Gamers " concept, so I know a thing or two about computers.... all that nice high end computer gaming hardware.... I created the concept.
Extremely poor experience
Extremely poor experience. Constantly crashes with moderate use. Report faults every time, never received any response or explanation of these constant failures
irefox updated in the background
irefox updated in the background. I was in the middle of a class and it would let me continue and had to restart, Promised to take me right back where I was. It didnt. 2 hours of class poof !! Up in smoke. then it brought up a webpage with viruses and scams on it. Namely facebook twitter and other trash I never ever asked for. That should be my choice not theirs. Evidently they have joined the metaverse
