Foxtons were eager to get the property up for sale. After that communication and feedback were poor

Dreadful
I contacted Foxton’s in Kingston to find out what floor a flat they were advertising was on. In order to answer this simple question, they wanted me to open an online account which would then be bombarded with adverts for flats I wasn’t interested in and refused to answer my original question until I had done this. Dreadful as always
Extremely irresponsible property agent
Extremely irresponsible property agent. They only care about pushing you to pay the rent at all costs. There is absolutely no after-sales support. Be careful, especially if you are an overseas student!
Useless
From my experience, borderline incompetent.
Was trying to rent a flat in London, using Rightmove/Zoopla to find listings.
- ended up being called by 6 different Foxtons agents, all of whom asked me for the same information I'd already given and most gave me the same spiel about how I'd left it so late and would struggle to find anything
- refused to give me any detailed info of the flats prior to viewing, I had to force them for basic info to avoid them wasting my time, which they would have, as everything was unsuitable
- between them they managed to show me 1 property - which didn't meet our requirements and was only available due to nearby building works forcing the tenant to leave
- the one property they had that we were interested in their agent spent a week unsuccessfully trying to gain access to, maybe he's still trying now...
- in the same time I saw around 20 decent properties from other agents and had an offer accepted
Abandoned inside a locked gated property after refusing to make an immediate offer!!!
I attended a property viewing arranged by Foxtons Wapping with a friend. At the end of the viewing, the agent pressured us to make an offer on the spot. When we declined — which is entirely our right as prospective buyers — the agent left the building and abandoned us inside a gated development with no way out. The gate was locked. We had no means of exiting. I have WhatsApp messages timestamped in real time confirming this.
This is not a minor complaint about poor service. Being trapped on a property as apparent punishment for not making an immediate offer is a serious safety concern and a breach of basic professional standards.
I have now submitted a formal complaint to Foxtons and will be escalating to The Property Ombudsman if not satisfactorily resolved. I have retained all evidence.
I would urge anyone considering using Foxtons Wapping to be aware of this experience.

Very Very disappointed ,poor communication and lack of follow up through made the whole process frustrating. Overall, the service felt unprofessional and below expectations. Would not recommend please
Accounts Department Shambolic
The people responsible fo the letting of my property were first class. It is after that the problems start. I have been asking for three weeks when the funds will be released for the new tenant and still have no answer despite numerous requests. Foxtons also said on 25.3.26 that funds will be released. As of 8.4.2026 no sign of the funds. The rental / accounts department are an absolute shambles and cannot communicate. A shame as the guys letting properties are professional. After this lease is finished, I will not be using them again.
Very negative experience with Foxtons
Very negative experience with Foxtons. Nearly a year after the tenancy they arranged had ended, they were still pursuing the tenants over what appeared to be a renewal commission dispute with the landlord. We had remained in the property under a separate arrangement directly with the landlord, yet Foxtons still contacted the tenants and tried to involve us in a matter that should not have been ours to deal with.
What was especially concerning was Foxtons claiming they had identified that tenants were still at the property by looking at things like utilities, bills and other address-linked information, and even attending the property months later to ask who was living there. Whether or not they think they have a claim against the landlord, this felt deeply intrusive, intimidating and completely inappropriate from a tenant’s perspective.
The overall tone was aggressive and heavy-handed, with no real sense of fairness or professionalism. Instead of handling the matter sensibly, they caused unnecessary stress to people who were not the party to their commission dispute. Based on this experience, I would urge both tenants and landlords to be extremely cautious when dealing with Foxtons.
The personal attention was excellent…
The personal attention was excellent and the flat was rented quickly after just 6 days vacant. There are always hiccups in this kind of process but everything was quickly resolved. Maybe they are more expensive than some others but I find the team very professional and they take the worry away. Especially grateful to Martin Debrah in Dulwich who does a superb job
They were very efficient and responsive to our needs.
I had a fantastic experience working with our estate agents at Foxtons, Putney Office, especially Niamh and Gurjeevan. From the initial consultation through to completion, they were very proactive, responsive and kept me informed at every stage, making the entire process feel smooth and stress-free.
Agent from hell
Please be aware of Sarah McGuinness, a Foxtons St Johns wood agent. I would advise landlords to be careful of Sarah’s lies and manipulation. Please be cautious before signing the terms of business with Foxtons. I was initially quoted a commission of 10.35% on the condition that I remove my property from other platforms. After doing so, this was later increased to 13.2%. I have was verbally informed that the commission would not be renewable, yet the tenants were encouraged to sign a 24-month contract, resulting in nearly £10,000 in commission. Several additional charges were not clearly explained at the beginning. I also felt pressured to sign quickly and was reassured that terms could be changed later if I changed my mind, which did not happen. Most discussions were verbal, leaving me without written proof. I would strongly recommend asking for everything in writing and reading the terms very carefully before signing.View less
Uneducated Staff Overpricing Properties
Overpricing properties and super unprofessional, everyone seems to be people with zero education that couldn't get any other job so they ended up at Foxtons.

By far the worst Estate Agent in the UK. Crap service at every level.
3% fee for faking viewing and ignoring…
3% fee for faking viewing and ignoring basic instructions is basically a scam.
Received a bogus call telling me they had several people interested in my property (I had just taken it off the market with another agent).
I dealt with 4 different people to book in 2 viewings. Both of which canceled last minute and never requested to rebook, I suspect because they were fake.
I had explicitly stated on the phone, in email and in text that I didn’t want the property listing on the market seen as they had people interested anyway. They listed the property on Rightmove 3 days after. I messaged them the same day to pull their services. 8 days later… I am still being ignored…
For people of colour
I worked with one of the loveliest agents and her manager, who were both great, but the rest of the Foxtons operation was honestly pretty tragic.
I viewed a number of flats that were nice and placed offers on two of them. The first one had a landlord who, in my opinion, clearly didn’t want people of colour in his property. There were excuse after excuse to make the process difficult for us to move forward. In the end we backed out because it just wasn’t worth the hassle, and frankly I didn’t want to deal with an overbearing landlord like that anyway.
On top of that, some of the Foxtons staff put in charge of the deal were slow and seemed completely unbothered. One person in particular only really reached out when it looked like a deal might close — presumably when there was a bonus involved. Aside from that, there was very little help or communication.
The second place was another good option. I put in an offer and then, on the morning I’m supposed to get the news, I’m told: “Actually, it’s not a 2-bed, it’s just a 1-bed.” So I’ve viewed the property, filled in forms, submitted an offer — only to then be told, essentially, “Oops, our mistake.” Then there were excuses like the kitchen being too small, which didn’t make any sense at all as I was completely fine with the Kitchen size. I was even told by the agent that I had the far higher offer as it was out of me and a another single person, but no, the excuses came pouring in to accommodate him and reject us.
At that point, I was done with Foxtons. I’ll be taking my business elsewhere. It’s frustrating that in 2026, even when you have the money and are ready to move forward, you still feel like race might end up being an issue in the process.
(Ask a white friend to do all the viewings and you just move in at the end to avoid this nonsense... And definitely avoid Foxton's)
Poor service altogether
Poor communication- often delayed response. The worst time I waited for a response was >7 days. Another incident is that there's been a changed of my property managers and as a landlord I was not informed. I only found out when I had a bounced back email. When checked on myfoxtons portal, the property manager info was not updated. When I called the central property management, nobody knew who my property manager was.
Attitude problems - not apologetic when the fault is at their end. I am no longer their client and the float money has not been remitted for > 2 months since the tenancy ended. When I called the property manager, he couldnt be reached on the phone and he's not responding to emails. I had to go through central property management to get hold of him. When question about the float money, he was not apologetic at all and his attitude is terrible.
Accounts issue - money was meant to be deducted from the deposit due to unreasonable wear&tear. The tenant agreed to the amount to be deducted, but according to the property manager he's still waiting for it to appear on the landlord account after 2 months, unsure why.
Troubling
Letting agents in Belsize Park insisted on six months' rent in advance from 76-year-old tenant with Stage IV cancer.
More than £600 "stolen" in unjustified deposit deductions.
DO NOT RENT through Foxtons. More than £600 "stolen" in unjustified deposit deductions. Really shady practices.
We rented a flat in Cranston Court (Shepherd's Bush) for 6 months while our house was undergoing renovations. Everything had gone mostly smoothly (as one would expect) until the time to vacate the property and get our depositi back came.
The landlord (Sachin Rajja Basandrai) attempted to make substantial and unwarranted deductions from our deposit. He went back on his word from conversations we had before exiting the property and he used deposit funds to make maintenance purchases in the flat (issues that predated the lease). He justified the spenfing (which should have been his responsability), by stating a "cleanliness issue" (the flat was cleaner than when we came in as we had spent ~£250 on professional cleaning).
We raised a claim with Foxtons to protect our deposit from this predatory behaviour, thinking that they were (as they should) going to act as a fair and objective intermediary between the shady landlord and us.
Instead they burried us in processes, passing us over from one email adress to antoher and asking us to make a claim online... Which we did. Unfortunately, several months later, when nothing had progressed and I asked that now the issue be resolved, they just told us that "it's too late", that "we should have raised a claim before"...
I couldn't believe my ears. I was stunned! Looking into it in details, the fine print stated that the claim shouldn't be made to them, but to an other company (mydeposit)... I could go further into the details of how the've all ended up getting away with it, but the fact of the matter is that the landlord extortionately took more than £600 out of our deposit.
At the end of the day, Foxtons just allowed him to do so, proving that they value the stock that landlord untrust them with much more than the tenants who they rent the properties out to.
AVOID AT ALL COST

Yasmin Shahin from the North Homes team in London has been absolutely amazing helping us to navigate the purchase of a flat for my daughter. Her support has made a massive difference and when we sell the flat in the future we will go straight back to Foxtons.
