Really bad customer service and billing practices. Tried to bill me twice on auto renewal. Called their offshore customer service who told me it would be taken care of. had to order a new debit card and then McAfee tried to bill me twice again on auto renewal a month later. Did not bother calling McAfee but cancelled auto renewal, deleted all McAfee apps and had to reorder a new debit card which hopefully McAfee will not try and renew again. Awful billing practise and basically a scam

What a shit Website

You go to their Website, click on a product, click buy, i thankfully selected Paypal and the page does not load. You then try to sign into your Account and the only thing you get is a broken website saying sorry, its not you bla bla bla. You cannot access that trash site. How can you trust a Security company that can't even handle someone signing up. I have never seen anything this bad.

Only thing McAfee is efficient at is relentless upselling

My anti-virus software UX is laser-focused on upselling features I don't have rather than useful PC scans etc. My PC has been compromised which was not detected & all I get notifications about is paying more for additional services. The worst protection product I have ever had the misfortune for paying for.

Amazing customer service for refund.

Forgot to use my voucher to pay for my subscription, I requested a refund. Initially, the ai helpbot was unhelpful but after I got connected to Mishel it was quick and easy. Very kind and clear.
If you encounter any issues i recommend asking for technical support so your connected to a person.

Corrupt

What is the point of having anti scam / virus protection on your computer when you have to enter your bank details and email in order to install. The two most important things you want to protect. Then good luck trying to find how to turn off auto renew. I have since uninstalled and informed my bank to block any future payment attempts by McCafé.

the problem is it is a money hungry company that auto renews your subscribtion months before expiring and with NO notification doesnt matter if you are using their program, they want your money. Customer service takes 20 mins to get a hold on someone where they continue to sell you despite you being annoyed by this whole auto deduction situation. The refund itself was not in full despite me cancelling it before it even started. I strongly believe in credibility. if a company can do these small tactics to acquire your money, are you really going to offer them full access to your private data?

DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT!

DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT!! Never have I come across such a disgusting bunch of wide boys. I purchased McAfee from Amazon for about £10. When I came to install it I then had to give my bank details and accept auto renewal whether I liked it or not. When I switched auto renewal off it said I have lost parts of my protection. Mcafee have no right to do this, there is no mention of it when you by the product, their behaviour is illegal and they should be shut down and they should be not be allowed to sell anything to anybody. The reason they have done this is to take ridiculous amounts of money off customers when the renewal comes and you have forgotten about it. Absolutely disgusting.

Disappointing Experience With Unauthorized Charges

Today, I received a text alert from my bank notifying me that McAfee attempted to charge my card twice. Thankfully, my bank blocked both attempts. I contacted them immediately, and they confirmed that no charges went through. They also provided me with McAfee’s customer service number so I could resolve the issue directly.

However, when I called McAfee, I was told they could not unsubscribe or assist me because the subscription was supposedly set up through ASUS. Instead of helping, they redirected me without offering any real solution. This was extremely disappointing and felt very unprofessional.

The whole situation felt misleading, and honestly, it comes across like a scam. No customer should have to deal with unauthorized charge attempts and being passed around without help.

Digital Hostage-Taking: Forced Sale, Payment Data Exploitation, and Active User Censorship

McAfee is a thug company practicing numerous unethical practices, deliberate creation of user friction, and unacceptable, high-aggression product behavior. If I could leave negative review, I would!

## Forced Initial Sale and Unauthorized Financial Data Use:

This software was force-sold (pre-installed) on my new computer, initiating my relationship with McAfee without my explicit, individual purchase decision.

This initial transaction appears to have resulted in the computer manufacturer passing on my full financial information to McAfee. While I received notification, the fact that my payment information was obtained and can be used for auto-renewal without clear authorization for this specific purpose is deeply disturbing!

## Deliberate Creation of Unsubscription and Uninstallation Friction:

McAfee actively and aggressively creates friction for customers trying to cancel or leave. When I attempted to research how to unsubscribe or uninstall the product:

- I was blocked from accessing the official support and unsubscription pages on the McAfee website.
- All other sales and renewal pages, however, remained fully accessible and functional.

This clearly demonstrates a deliberate, active effort by the software to make cancellation and removal an immensely difficult, frustrating process, forcing me to resort to a separate internet connection (mobile data) to download the necessary removal tool.

## Aggressive Search Bar Censorship Feature:

The software installs an overly aggressive feature into the browser's search bar. When searching for anything related to "McAfee," the software immediately censors the search attempt, redirecting the user to a sponsored search engine page. This functionality actively suppressed my attempt to find the official uninstallation program, which is an outrageous, anti-consumer practice.

## Summary:

McAfee engages in predatory business practices, starting with the pre-installation sale and culminating in unauthorized auto-renewal facilitated by what I believe is questionable sharing of payment information. More critically, the software actively exhibits malware-like behavior by censoring the user's ability to search for uninstallation tools and blocking access to vital support/cancellation pages.

I’d of been better off with the scammers than with this rubbish. Don’t buy a new computer with McAfee pre installed because you will end up with a subscription impossible to cancel. So angry at suddenly finding £70 taken by PayPal for a service that has not even been activated, and still hasn’t been activated. McAfee are right up there with the scammers pure and simple

Untrustworthy

Untrustworthy. I signed up for virus protection so I expect notifications about this, but I get lots of distracting notifications about potential to sell me an upgrade such as registry cleaning services, online tracking. 30 mins into dealing with Mathew on Mcafee chat it transpires that this is irritating by design and can't be turned off. I have 5 mcafee accounts which will now be deleted. Lack of respect for the customer

There is no subscription on the account…

There is no subscription on the account yet I was charged nearly 80£ and customer service just saying to me that I need to go and speak to my bank and dispute it, I can't even see any subscription since 2020 and this is just so upsetting that they don't even want to send this information to me by email so that I can show my bank that You and a company confirmed that there is no charge on my account and I can request the money back, therefore I can't actually request the money back without this written proof ..

Misleading Activation Process & Aggressive Credit Card Dark Patterns

bought a legitimate McAfee activation code, and the entire experience trying to install the product I paid for was extremely frustrating and deceptive. Instead of giving me a simple “Download” button, McAfee pushes users into a confusing maze of pages designed to trick you into starting a free trial that requires a credit card.

Even after redeeming my code, McAfee still tried to redirect me into providing card details. The interface hides the correct “redeem code” path and constantly pushes auto-renew options, making it feel like you’re being manipulated into paying more or signing up for something you didn’t want.

Most antivirus companies offer a clear, honest download link and straightforward activation. McAfee does not. The interface feels deliberately misleading, and it makes customers feel scammed even when they already paid.

I eventually installed the product, but only after navigating multiple dark-pattern screens — there is no reason a security company should behave this way. McAfee should respect customers, simplify the activation process, and stop forcing users toward credit-card-required trials.

Until these practices change, I cannot recommend McAfee to anyone.

McAfee Ripping-Off Customers

I always thought that McAfee were there to protect us from Scams, but my latest experience has proved that the opposite is the case!

I purchased last years renewal from a third party for £9.99 and that is due for renewal on 23/11/2025. It was for 1 Year 1 Device. About a month ago I received an E-Mail telling me that McAfee had renewed my protection (a) it wasn't due until 23/11/2025, so the erroneous payment was taken A MONTH BEFORE IT WAS DUE (b) they had taken £79.99 from my Credit Card that I had not authorized. I wrote an E-Mail to McAfee and requested an immediate cancellation and refund - that E-Mail was not responded to. I tried to cancel on the McAfee website but wasn't allowed to do that either. Identical McAfee Protection is shown on Google for around £4 upwards. Their own "sponsored" advert on Google is showing the price as £24.99 so why are you trying to "Rip Customers Off" by taking £79.99?????
