Wudnt exactly call it great- wudve expected the addition of technical data entry option via homesquad wud have expedited process but doesnt seem to have translated. One time i successfully entered requested docs on homesquad page (received a “completed” statement and associated checkmark), only to find out a few days later after another request for the same info that it did not get received for some reason which was confirmed by loan advisor- but that wasted 7 business days becuz loan advisor was out of office for several days…there is obviously a glitch in the program and i brought this to his attn , but it generated a reqmt to contact advisor after every data entry to confirm it was recvd. Also was disappointed at times when docs were requested “asap”, which happened on more than one occasion. Seems like homesquad shud have a more forward looking checklist to request relevant data ahead of time to avoid this scenario - we also have jobs that “get in the way” of responding to homesquad on short notice..

Excellent card, excellent benefits, have literally no complaints. Even better it’s a Visa card so we can use that Costco.

Overall, the process was pretty good. I’m not sure if there was anything loan team could have done to improve the VA appraisal timeline because an outside company does it. but you spend most of your time waiting on this to be completed. This really frustrates the process.

Our current and one before advisor never personally reaches out to check in or to advise. We have over $1m in our portfolio. I’ve been an NFCU member for close to 50’years -until recently, all my advisors would personally reach out at least once a year. Since NM retired, we’ve had nothing but hands off advising. We don’t need much, but a yearly check in would be nice. I feel like the newer people are just collecting their paycheck

The process is streamlined! I had approval in half hour. Online application is easy peasy. Best part (besides fair interest rate) when you call on phone you get a real person, I know right...crazy!! Thanks again Navy Federal!!

Unfortunately, our experience with getting a HELOC through Navy Federal wasn't the best.
The first problem was the speed of the process. We have gotten 3 *actual* mortgages throughout our lives and each one of them was faster than getting this HELOC. It felt like every step moved at a snail's pace. One of the biggest problems was being assigned to a processor that went on vacation for 7-10 days during the time we were trying to obtain this loan. That's approximately a third of the time it should take to get this HELOC! We should not have been assigned to a processor who was going to be off of work for at least 30% of the projected time.
The second problem was comprehension on how to do certain tasks. Navy Fed tried calling my work to do an employment verification. Our HR rep (who I spoke to in person about this interaction) told Navy Fed that our company no longer allows phone verifications. During that first interaction, they were given instructions on how to obtain an employment verification for me from a 3rd party company. However, they still kept trying to call my company instead of following the instructions they were given. I then went out of my way to send written instructions for the employment verification to my processor 2-3 times because the level of comprehension and efficiency just wasn't there. We even had to have a phone call about it as well because of how long it was holding up the process.
I will still provide 3 stars because there truly were zero fees on the HELOC and the closer & notary we worked with near the end of the process were very nice & knowledgeable about the process.
If a no-cost HELOC is your priority, I'd say go with Navy Fed. But go in knowing the process will be slow, clunky, and inefficient (just like their website).

I was very disappointed with the closing process given that I started the loan process early and openly communicated my needs. My wife was scheduled to be out of town for the closing and I was told they could get her to do an easy online remote closing so she could be on the title. As closing approached, coordination was severely lacking between my Navy Federal Representative and the Representative for the Title Company. I ended up having to do a lot of the coordination myself and it ended up delaying closing 1 day along with a significant amount of churn for how to proceed with my wife out of the country.

Everything went smoothly. All parties involved answered all my questions and were available when needed

Where do I start! I have used Navy Federal both times I have purchased a home. This round Alexander was my loan officer, and what a great experience it was again. From the beginning the communication was great and the knowledge from the whole team could not have been better. 5 out 5 stars for this team.
