Ok for privacy,
Ok for normal usage but not working against strong internet censorship as some of other VPNs do with shadowsocks, vless and other sneaky methods.
Also PIA has introduced fraud-like subscription auto renewal - charging money at night without sending any warning that subscription is close to expire. That makes “not ok for my needs 5 star” app “wtf are doing 2 star” app.
Refund was processed smoothly, so we are back on “ok app but not for my needs” track.

IP rotation
The new ip rotation "feature" might be one of the stupidest IT related decisions that any human has ever taken. It completely ruins my purpose of using a VPN. Unfortunately I had already paid for another year but if this decision is not revoked (and hopefully the clowns that implemented this gets fired) I will NOT renew my subscription. At least make it optional!

Leaving PIA for a service that works
I have used PIA for years, and loved them for most of it. Recently my bandwidth has been really suffering whilst using the app and the new IP rotation “feature” is the bane of my existence.
Every time I try and run a download whilst doing anything else I get randomly disconnected as I get moved to a new external IP. The IP in the app pop up is still the same but the actual external IP that your email provider or website sees is now different. Support deny that they do this, and then frame it as a security feature when you get proof. I also now get random disconnects if my download speed exceeds 20Mbps.
So god forbid you have Google drive or OneDrive running a sync as that’s going to drop your connection like a hot potato.
I had my Outlook account suspended due to bot like behavior as my IP changed ever 60 seconds and it looked suspicious.
PIA have said in writing that this is bad and they don’t do it but the logs don’t lie.

The behavior you're describing (mid-download disconnects when the external IP rotates despite the app showing the same IP) is worth investigating directly. As a workaround, the rotation interval can typically be adjusted in app settings (or disabled depending on your version), which should stop the mid-download drops. For the bandwidth, switching to WireGuard protocol if you aren't already on it usually improves throughput. Reach out to support@piavpnsupport.zendesk.com referencing this review so the team can pull your account logs and pass the feedback to product.

Great service
I've been using PIA for over a decade now I believe, and it's been a great VPN service if you are someone who likes your privacy online. They have always been very responsive as far as their customer service goes (generally respond within a day), and the price is extremely reasonable especially if you sign up for one of their longer plans!

PIA is on the way out....
PIA is in the process of upgrading servers and for this reason they are introducing "IP rotating" every few seconds. So almost every time an app is started/a connection is established to a service, it gets a new public IP different from the VPN apps IP. This makes the use of private trackers and certain streaming services, etc. practically impossible.
The worst thing, however, is that they do not inform users about it. Their support first says that it is not supposed to be like this, and then changes this later.... I have given 2 stars because it has worked really well for several years. Otherwise, the above would only give 1 star from here.
When they upgrade more servers, I will be forced to find another VPN provider.
Update 15/5-2026. Complete waste of time to contacting support once again. 100% the same answer.... You lost a star and af couple of customers.
