Most Horrific Service and Response

In November 2022 I used the services of Renfe. Travelling from Madrid to Valencia was quite smooth and seamless. My utter horror and disappointment came when I needed to travel back from Valencia to Madrid.
The manner at which I was spoken to and handled at the Valencia Train station was really horrific. The gentleman I spoke to was not willing to engage and furthermore could not even speak English. He treated me with such disrespect and prejudice that words cannot even express. I tried to reach out to Renfe Management but have not received a response. Coming from a previously racially divided country and being treated unfairly based on your culture, skin colour and background, I fully understand and know what it feels like. I expressed this to Renfe Management and clearly by their lack of response it just shows that their management supports such behavior. What also confuses me is the lack of being able to speak English by their staff clearly shows that they do not value any of their non speaking clients.
An experience I would not want to experience ever. I will do my utmost best to never use their service.

Horrible

My sister and I bought tickets from Madrid to Barcelona at the counter in the train station. We waited more than hour for tickets. We ended up having to pay 250 euros for a ONE WAY trip for both of us and we had to wait at the station all day for the train to leave at night. We asked for a refund since we had initially thought it was a round trip ticket and they refused. Horrible! Will never be buying from here again.

Renfe - Zero Customer Orientation

Me and my Family had a very Time consuming and annoying experience with the Renfe ticket machines at the Los Boliches / Fuengirola train station. For some reason, the interface doesn’t allow to switch to english Language, they don‘t allow credit cards (from foreigners?), different machines at the train station show different prices and so on. This is not the way, I want to be treated as a customer. I have sent Renfe a detailed customer complaint and asked their management to have a close look at this incident. I do hope, in the sense of customer Orientation, that they geht their brains back to work and ensure ticket machines that work properly.
I wasn‘t the only one at the train station facing these challenges, so believe me, I am definitely Not exaggerating.

No booking changes or refunds allowed!!

I booked the train for 3 of us from to Malaga to Loja so the three of us could get home after fetching a friend at the airport. Cost me 60€. But my friends flight was delayed so I wanted to reschedule our train tickets about 5 hours before we were due to leave. But Renfe don't allow ticket changes or refunds! It's not ok!

This company almost destroyed my whole…

This company almost destroyed my whole experience in Spain, cost me a lot in lost money, time and good faith and was just completely irresponsible and incomprehensible. First, they sent me confirmation of my reservation, time, seat assignment, all of which I copied and had with me. However, when I arrived at Atocha Station in Madrid more than an hour ahead, I was directed to various "customer service" locations, dragging my suitcases hither and yon. When I finally found the "right customer service," I was told that their communications did not constitute a ticket and they wouldn't issue a ticket. Somehow they neglected to attach or lost my ticket and the fact that I had "confirmation" of my reservation meant nothing. After much deliberation, I was finally taken upstairs to the security at which point my bag which had been checked at airlines in the U.S., France and Spain was scanned and, no luggage check being available, security confiscated and threw out, down a chute, my irreplaceable custom made kitchen knife. After this further insult, I returned to Renfe "customer service" who refused to do anything at all to help me get on any later train or to compensate me for having messed up my ticketing. As a result, I was forced to rent a car to go one way to Cadiz which cost me hundreds of dollars, destroyed my plans for attending a performance that night in Cadiz, forced me into having to go to Jerez to return the car the following day which, being exhausted after the harrowing experience of dealing with Renfe, and having to drive 6 1/2 hours to Cadiz also caused me to forfeit the next night's performance (more lost money and profound disappointment). The whole experience was an unprecedented. They destroyed my vacation and left me feeling abused, exhausted, defeated. Thanks a lot Renfe. The only comfort is in the knowledge that I will know going forward to never, ever, deal with this dreadful company again. I am 69 years old, I have traveled all over the world, and I have never written such a review and never been treated so shabbily. Avoid at all costs!

I paid for a ticket but never received…

I paid for a ticket but never received it (renfe did take the 49.95 euros). I was assured on the phone call that it was a mistake on their side and a refund will be issued within 24 hours. 36 hours later, no refund, but after calling them again, this time a rude lady told me there is no such a ticket/payment/claim in their system (was there yesterday) and hence will not give me a refund. Then she hung up. I visited third world nations with a better customer service than RENFE. Absolute shame!

Forced to lift my luggage but there s no place to put it.

Im taking Renfe trains very often. My main complaint is about the following, very often there's no space for the luggage, the ticket inspector want the luggage of the way, then the only possible way is on top of the seats. What happens if the luggage is very heavy? I'meither way forced to lift it.

2nd complain. There is never space for bicycles. Only if you pack them.

Trains never on time

Unless RENFE claims that they are very punctual, no train that I travelled with was on time, all trains have at least 15 minutes delay. Although some trains depart on time, they stop regularly in between stations (also the AVE trains) and also wait for extremely long times on stations, even when there are no people getting in or out. The maximum speed of the train may be more than 250 kmh, but due to these circumstances, the average velocity on your trip is no more than that of a 'normal' train.
If you plan to travel with RENFE and you have a stop-over, please take much transfer time into account. Not only because of the delayed trains, but also due to the security checks at every station, and some completely chaotic stations (e.g. Barcelona Sants)
