Sixt never disappoints
I’ve rented from Sixt several times, mostly in the USA, and my latest rental was in Marseille, France.
Overall, it was another good experience. The only small issue was that the digital self-service pick-up wasn’t working, so I had to join the queue instead. Thankfully, the wait was short and the staff got through it quickly.
They tried to upsell me to a more expensive car, which I declined. They then offered me a different car in the same category, and I was happy to take it. I assume my original car wasn’t ready, but I don’t know for sure.
I also opted for the zero excess cover, which turned out to be worthwhile.
Returning the car was just as easy. I was rushing to catch my flight, so I left the car and handed over the keys. The staff carried out the inspection without me being there, which was possible because I had the zero excess cover.
Sixt isn’t always the cheapest option, so I usually compare prices before booking. Even so, I’ve never regretted renting from them. The cars have always been clean, in good condition, and the whole process has been straightforward. Based on my experience, I’d happily rent from them again.
Paid a premium price don’t receive premium service
Rented a car through SIXT UK to be collected at Palma Airport on 6 July.
Paid higher price for SIXT as they advertise a quick collection with cars in the terminal
Arrived at check in deal wait was around 20 mins. Given free upgrade to Auto due to wait
Arrived at key collection to be greeted with total chaos quite few customers waiting and staff not able to find keys for allocated cars. After sometime given keys to a different car and off we went.
Total time to get a car 45mins. No real apology
Complained to SIXT and got a good response followed up further no response. Called the CS number in UK total waste of time the agent couldn’t wee complaint despite giving a case number. Couldn’t transfer me to a supervisor as no supervisors available and wouldn’t let me raise a new complaint
I have emailed a senior director will be interesting to see if I get a response
UPDATE
SIXT have agreed today that the delay at Palma Airport was not acceptable and have advised they will refund 25% of rental cost
If I could give zero stars I would
If I could give zero stars I would. Avoid Sixt. Slimy business tactics. The fine print is there to scam money out of you. Best to avoid companies like this in general. Tell everyone you know. They deserve to fail

Milan Linate Airport
Used the Linate Milan branch for hiring for a recent 2 week family holiday. Pick up at the airport was easy - the guy did try to upsell insurance and upgrade the car (pretty standard practice for car hire) but didn't push any further after I politely declined.
Car was in great condition with only a couple thousand Km on the clock.
Returning the car was easy - someone met me after I parked up, checked over the car, confirmed no damages, asked me to sign - done in 5 mins.
Easy.

Chris was prepared to go the extra mile and look after us. Car was very good. A wee bit expensive but we wanted it at short notice. They were flexible when we were slightly late getting back due to traffic.
Good Value and Dependable
I've rented vans from Sixt in Salford on 3 separate occasions to move house over the past 2 months. There's been no issues whatsoever and I plan to return to them again in the future for my next van hire.
The price is good, the check in and check out process was quick and easy with friendly staff. The vans were perfect for me moving furniture and had no mechanical defects.
From booking online to returning the van everything was hassle-free, which was incredibly welcome and the reason why I chose to write this review.
We hired a car in Estopona
We hired a car in Estopona - at Sixt at a hotel - the app and service were excellent in all spheres - the car was in excellent condition, and the staff we dealt with were courteous and professional - price for the car hire was good -insurance a bit pricy -but it was all fine and the best price we could find.
Extra Charges Everywhere…
We rented a car for three days for a long weekend trip - I wish we hadn’t rented from this company. Off the bat at the rental desk, we were charged a Young Driver Surcharge of ~£50 on a 25 year-old, despite him having driven for 7 years & no longer being classed as a young driver. This should NOT be a charge.
Upon returning, we were charged an extra 100 which was deducted from the deposit. This was for “road tax” & a fuel charge. We had explicitly paid £20 for the refuelling to be done by them, but we were told this only covered part of the fuel. We then got in touch with customer service, who responded to our queries 10 days later!
I would have understood if they had fully explained the fees beforehand, but to be hit with extra charges prior and post weekend was not pleasant & has put me off renting from this ridiculous company.
If you are a younger driver, I would advise NOT renting from this company as you could be hit with random fees left right and centre.
Great staff, quick and easy check-in
The staff at Kiruna airport in Sweden were top-notch. Very helpful. English-speaking. Conveniently located. Fast. Nothing bad to say.
Excellent service
Process from pick up to drop was really efficient. It looks like Sixt has adopted digital tools really effectively.
Hopefully other companies will follow suit.
Great service
Great service, easy collection and drop off. No issues, no delays. All good.
Very grateful
Having not pre-booked, I was not hopeful of finding a car to hire while we were in Jersey. However, when I went to the counter at Jersey airport, the man behind the counter could not have been more helpful and, within a very short space of time, a car was found. Thank you.
BE CAREFUL. Great experience up until return
I have hired from Sixt many times in the UK and have always had a fantastic experience, which makes this occasion particularly disappointing.
I hired from Sixt in Majorca and the collection process was great. The staff were friendly, everything was straightforward, and I was even upgraded to a fantastic car. Up until the point of returning the vehicle, I had nothing but positive things to say.
Unfortunately, the return process completely changed my view of the experience.
When I returned the car, a member of staff pointed out a scratch and suggested that I may be responsible for it. Thankfully, I had taken a video of the vehicle at the time of collection, which clearly showed that the scratch was already present before I drove the car. I showed the video to the staff member, who accepted this at the time.
Despite this, a week later I was informed that Sixt intended to charge me €550 for the very same scratch.
I have since emailed Sixt multiple times, providing the video evidence and a clear explanation of what happened. I have received no meaningful response, yet I am apparently still facing a €550 charge for damage that I can clearly prove was present before the rental began.
It is incredibly frustrating to have had such a positive experience completely undermined by a damage claim that appears to ignore clear video evidence. As a repeat Sixt customer, I expected significantly better.
I would strongly recommend that anyone hiring from this location takes a detailed video of the entire vehicle before driving away. In my case, even having clear video evidence has so far not been enough to resolve the issue.
I will update this review if and when Sixt responds and resolves the matter.
BEWARE additional charges after you've returned the car
While pick up was seamless, the disappointment came when an invoice for an extra £143 arrived in my inbox!
We were charged for petrol even though we returned full - that was eventually corrected, but the other charges weren't! BUYER BEWARE: Sixt charge an 'Island Hopper Fee' of £37.50 which was not made known to us on booking or pickup, which we didn't need. Further, the Premium Location Fee (which we assumed was covered on our original booking) gets increased when fuel/hopper fee/any other extras like additional driver are added. I've used Enterprise from the same airport, and they had never heard of the 'Island Hopper Fee' so this is a luxury you almost certainly don't need.
Hired a car from Sixt
Hired a car from Sixt, the staff were very helpful, no hard sell for extras and got me on the road as quickly as possible. The car was spotless and great to drive.
I have used them a few times before and always had good service
Provence, France
I found the stuff from when I arrived very helpful and thoughtful helping me set up English navigation in the car without me asking great correspondence for bringing the car back dropping a pin helpful and when arrived to check of the car was great guys very polite I can’t speak for everywhere but in Provence France they were great

Probably the most reliable company o have dealt with. No pressure tactics and no nasty surprises after return.
Good quality. Clean cars in brilliant condition and very friendly staff.
Great service at Frankfurt Airport
Good service. Excellent agent at Frankfurt airport. Value for money rental.
Best ever key pickup
Online (app) made picking up the keys from Girona airport on a busy Saturday lunchtime an absolute delight, best ever key collection. No queues straight to a locker with a QR code to get the keys, app shows you round the car for any dints etc and away you go. Coming back equally easy with a real human to help you out.
