Disappointing Experience — Not the Savings I Was Promised

I chose to use Skylux because of its advertising promoting savings of up to 40% on business- and first-class airfare. For our 30th wedding anniversary, I wanted to give my wife a special trip to Maui, so I decided to give Skylux a try after seeing the agency while browsing hotels on Expedia.

I submitted a request for information and was contacted by an agent named Leonardo. I provided our Maui destination, preferred hotel, and travel dates well in advance. Unfortunately, the experience that followed was extremely disappointing.

The airfare Leonardo recommended was described to me as “economy,” but it was actually basic economy. I was not clearly informed that this fare did not include a carry-on and that we would be charged separately for our luggage. As a result, we ended up paying more than $400 in additional baggage fees. Had the fare been accurately explained upfront, I could have made a more informed decision.

There were also issues with the airport and hotel arrangements. The flight was booked out of the wrong airport, and when I wanted to extend our stay from four days to seven, I was told it would cost an additional $400 per person. When I asked about adding the extra three nights at our preferred hotel, the quoted rate was nearly twice what the same hotel was publicly advertising on Expedia.

I was also disappointed with the level of customer service. Throughout the process, Leonardo came across as apathetic and uninterested in finding the best options for us. For a trip that was supposed to celebrate 30 years of marriage, I expected someone who would be attentive, transparent, and genuinely interested in creating a good travel experience.

The travel protection was another major concern. I was sold travel protection that, in my opinion, was not adequately explained. I later learned that the protection was apparently charged again with each change to the itinerary rather than covering the entire trip under one fee. That was not made clear to me when I purchased it. If you already have a travel credit card, I would strongly recommend checking the protections included with your card before purchasing additional coverage.

I was also told there was a promotion that made the DreamPass free, yet my card was ultimately charged $499.97 for it. I am currently disputing that charge, as well as seeking a reversal of the travel-protection charges. I will update this review once those disputes have been resolved.

Overall, this was one of the most disappointing experiences I have had with a travel service. The advertised savings did not translate into the value I expected, and the lack of transparency regarding airfare restrictions, baggage costs, itinerary changes, hotel pricing, travel protection, and the DreamPass charge left me feeling that I had not been properly informed.

At this point, I would not recommend Skylux to friends or family. My advice to anyone considering using the service is to carefully compare every fare and hotel price yourself, confirm exactly what is included in the airfare, ask for all fees in writing, and verify any insurance or membership charges before authorizing payment.

guy got pissed and told me "why did you call?" when i told him i got the google price BETTER than what they offered by $500. Keep arguing with me that's not possible and being confrontational is a joke!
