Synology DS720+
Have deliberated about the new NAS for a while - and where to get it from - finally ordered a replacement DS720+ from Span to replace my ageing DS211J. Pre-order support albeit on screen chat helpful, as are the YouTube videos, ordering was easy - but you have to watch the hard drive prices - they seem to fluctuate more than the exchange rate does - DS720 arrived safely and well packaged - and configured as I asked - started to wonder how I would log into the system as it was not obvious where the logon details were - I checked inside the synology box - nothing - only to discover it was documented in the delivery note etc inside the outer shipping box - which I had not checked fully. System is up and running - still tweaking the configuration but happy! One interesting point the migration assistant does not support the DS211J so I have had to restore the data from backups and configuration from config backups - thanks Synology!!! - you nearly lost me to QNAP - Yes I could have moved hard drives from the 211J to the 720+ but why start messing extracting hard disks from their cabinets - especially when SPAN had done such a good job setting it up.
Sadly they appear to have stopped trading - no website - updated information April 2025!

No point paying for Saturday Delivery
I ordered my Synology NAS early on Friday morning, and paid extra for Saturday delivery. Confirmation email received. Waited for my delivery details, and nothing happened. Waited all weekend, and rang on Monday morning to find out what had happened. Guy on the phone seemed clueless as to what had occurred. Whilst on the phone with him I got a shipping confirmation email - for next day delivery (so thus would be Tuesday). I pointed out that I had paid for the weekend delivery, he said it would be refunded. At the time of writing, it has not. To add insult to injury, worldspan’s chosen courier DPD took two days to deliver a next day parcel. Their excuse was they couldn’t find the package in the Van.

Happy - was a good price (about the only non-A*** site that has them), and the hard drives came pre-installed with my requested RAID 1 in the NAS I bought, perfect.
A small notes: when I went to log-in for the first time the default admin password didn't work, so I had to find out that you needed to press the reset button on the back to reset network configurations.

Decent prices and faultless service
Good choice of NAS products. I've watched a lot of Robbie's Youtube videos and had no problems finding what I wanted. I asked about a particular product recommendation by email and got an answer within an hour. Decent prices and faultless service. Just watch the order process - I came out of a page, lost my basket, ordered it again and ended up with 2 of that item, I didn't realise until I got my order (I should have read the confirmation). It saves items even when you back out a page.

Synology DS220+…
I was unsure about the Synology DS220+ in terms of it's noise level, so I contacted Span and asked a few questions. All I can say is that I experienced outstanding customer service and I’m really pleased I chose the DS220+, it seems to be perfect for what I want. Delivery was next day even though the order was placed after the cut off time and the price was very competitive.

The website was well laid out and provided clear information on the available options within my budget. There is even a chance to speak to staff members to help you confirm you needs. Once my order was placed and I had questions or concerns the Span.com representative handling my order Lucas Okrasiak literally held my hand through the process and explained everything without once making me feel like I was annoying him or pestering him (I'm sure some were very basic process/procedure questions). I'd have to say hats off to Span and Lucas who is an excellent contact for first time customers. I am looking forwards to return to Span when I have further NAS/Storage needs as their knowledge is excellent and they know the value of making a customer feeling appreciated :)
