Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Evaluating 93 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Many people found that there were discrepancies between advertised and final prices, and some even reported finding better deals by booking directly with hotels. Customers also frequently encountered issues with the booking process, including a lack of confirmation emails, incorrect hotel reservations, and difficulties with cancellation and refund processing. The minority of people were dissatisfied with the website's functionality, noting a lack of essential filters and difficulties in contacting customer support, often leading to unresolved queries and generic responses. Some people also felt that the payment process was problematic, with instances of multiple charges or difficulties where hotels reportedly did not receive payments, despite customers having paid in full.

Not one price was the same as the original

Just checked a hotel using Trivago . Said it was £125 per night, went into the website to find it was £159. Checked a few more hotels. Not one price initially given by Trivago was even close to the original price. Stay away from these sites

Made a number of bookings

Made a number of bookings, months in advance, only to get messages very close to the booked date, to say it's been cancelled! And whilst the supplier cancels they don't do it on the site, so you have to go in, cancel and apply for a refund!
Leaves you with nothing booked and much higher prices looking for something else.
Zero customer service. Unable to report the messages on their own website and no option to explain that it was cancelled by host/tour operator when trying to get a refund.

From transfers in Thailand, to tours in Singapore and Egypt. All planned, booked and paid months in advance, only to be cancelled with a week/10 days notice. Utter nonsense.

Lack of filters for accessibility such as elevator filter

It's good for comparing price BUT it lacks accessible filters such as "elevator/lift".

How are you supposed to know if you can stay in a hotel without this important feature?!

Also "wheelchair accessible" is NOT the same as having an elevator!
Many hotels are not wheelchair accessible but have an elevator.
Especially in Europe in places such as London, UK and Amsterdam, Netherlands for example.

I cannot use this site properly due to no elevator filter.

I am disabled and cannot use stairs but am not in a wheelchair.

I NEED to know if there is a elevator.

Trivago tries to book wrong hotel! Triple check before using!

Went to book a golf stay and play trip for my parents to Brocket Hall near Welwyn Garden. Price on website was +£500 for available rooms, so checked Trivago and price came up as £345 bargain! Trivago info was this was via roomsxxl who I’ve never heard of so checked their website. Search revealed no Brocket Hall, however there was a Brocket Arms with a price of £345. This is a local pub not the grand hall and lodge accomodation of Brocket Hall. So glad I checked because Trivago had absolutely no info on the accomodation to verify that it was the venue I was trying to book. This would have been extremely embarrassing and inconvenient for my elderly parents had I gone ahead with Trivago. Hang you head (and website) with shame! (and you Mr Klopp!).

I had to pay for a room twice!

I will never book with Trivago again. I didn’t receive anything after I made my booking and paid for two hotel rooms. When I got to the hotel both rooms were reserved but only one got paid for so I had to use my credit card for the other.

Never use these guys they will steal your money TWICE

Booked to take my wife to London, realised straight away that I had booked the wrong date, managed to get through to JC in customer services who said he would try and get the provider to change my booking as it was literally 2 mins ago, after backwards and forwards for a week he said that I could change but it would be an extra £140, now what I originally paid plus this was way more expensive than the flexi rate on their website site, but rather than lose £250 I clicked on the link and paid it..
after a few days I received confirmation e mail, great I thought it’s at last sorted, to my horror they took the £140 but never changed the date, so I’ve now spent £390 on a £330 room that I cannot use
Now no one replies to my emails
Be really careful with these guys and always go direct to the hotel if you can

Trivago uninterested in their customers or customer satisfaction.

Used Trivago to book the Palace hotel in Buxton for a spa weekend through a third party, Algotel. Hotel experience was a disaster and we checked in and out in less than 30 minutes and went home. Unable to get any response from the third party, Algotel, who refused to answer any correspondence. Contacted Trivago and was basically told “ not our problem”. Awful customer service from Trivago with no interest in customer satisfaction.

Rubbish! More 1 star reviews than actual stars in the galaxy

Booked hotel through Trivago. Screenshotted the correct booking confirmation BUT then emails came through from Algotels for a hotel more than 30 miles away. Have been back and forth with Algotels who have promised a room in correct hotel for nearly 2 months. Have put booking in dispute and booked different hotel through booking.com.
Should’ve looked at TripAdvisor before booking with Trivago. Trivago absolve themselves from all responsibility. There are more 1 star reviews than there are actual stars in the galaxy.

My first and last

The initial booking went through fine but they told me I'd get the hotel reservation confirmation 5 days pre-arrival but this never came. In fact, despite chasers and informing customer services they only sent the confirmation on the day of our arrival, by which time I'd already booked another hotel as I was taking my wife and didnt want to leave it to chance. It was first and last time I'll use them

False pricing

Caught them out a few times now with advertising false pricing, they will advertise a supplier who can sell you at room at say £50 but when you click its jumped to £55. Not on every transaction mind but despite sending them screen shots, they just flatly deny the information that is being presented to them. Avoid if at all possible.

Complete incompetence booked us in…

Complete incompetence booked us in completely the wrong hotel. Despite having a confirmation, ruining a family get together weekend. No help what so ever. And no offer of compensation because apparently the small print says its ok to book you in somewhere completely different.
Use Booking.com a far better experience

Terrible customer service

Terrible customer service. They booked me into an adults only hotel, despite their website stating it was great for families and kids. I called multiple times and emailed many more. Not once did they reply despite promising to. I have applied for a chargeback in the end.

AVOID. Fraudsters, they take your booking then when there is a problem deny they can help

Booked on trivago book and go site, got confirmation for the hotel I had searched for, in Salisbury, all correct, immediately, on the trivago website. A few minutes later I got a confirmation from Algotels, for a similarly named hotel, but in Barnard Castle, 300 miles away. Have spent nearly 2 weeks of repeated (mostly ignored) emails to both Algotels and Trivago, and several phone calls (I think to a premium number) to get it sorted, and when I log in to Algotels it still shows the wrong hotel. Trivago keep telling me they can't do anything. In the end I contacted the hotel directly and have sorted a reservation. Do not use this search engine, they clearly do not vet the providers they use.

This service is extremely poor

This service is extremely poor — do not use this company under any circumstances. Their customer service is useless, unhelpful, and clearly just reads from a script. If your booking goes wrong or the other side doesn’t resolve it, Trivago won’t lift a finger to help you. You’ll be left completely stranded. Avoid this company at all costs.

Trivago won't honor Reservations

What you gotta also be aware of is the no refund policy, even though, the hotel does not provide the room as described, there is no way that you can cancel and request a refund.

You'll get this response:

In line with your request, we regret to inform you that we are unable to secure a refund for your reservation due to the strict non-refundable / non-amendable policy.
