True Traveller: Good, AXA: useless

The actual claiming process with True Traveller was five star, I received my reimbursement two days after I submitted my claim. However, the initial contact with AXA assistance was a farce, I had a broken ankle and needed to go to hospital immediately, they told me to wait a few hours while they contacted a reciprocal clinic in Canada that they would pay directly (using the Emerency room and X rays and CT scan in Canada as a non resident costs around $3000+ which I couldn't afford to be out of pocket). I waited and waited, called back many times, and always met with 'they are still working on it'. I waited 24 hours, with a broken ankle, before I gave up and went to the hospital and paid up front.

There are, unfortunately, more occasions now where hospitals in Canada refuse accept guarantees from insurers, for reasons which we just cannot fathom. It’s not as if AXA is a small insurer; they’re huge in Canada and have offices all over the country.

Nevertheless, we’re very sorry that the AXA assistance operator tried for far too long to arrange admission for you on their account. Frankly, she should have given up after an hour or so and just told you to get a taxi or ambulance to the hospital and payment could have been dealt with after the fact.

Fortunately, your injury didn’t require surgery, and True Traveller refunded all your medical costs within 48 hours of your claim coming in.

We’re happy that you’re pleased with us, but we’re sorry you feel let down by AXA.

Very happy

I had an accident whilst traveling and got good help and care from True Traveller. What I appreciated most was their fast reply to my questions and claims, especially from Dagmar. But I would recommend getting receipts and have proof of payment (I.e bank statements) as they need documentation. All in all would recommend.

Quick and professional help!

Quick and professional response on the Hotline.
After opening a claim, which was very easy, and submitting all required files I got a quick and friendly response regarding my claim and got the expenses back within a few days. Everything went super smooth and fast!

Only provider to insure you after flying!

I travelled without insurance as I forgot and this was the only provider I could find. I had to do a claim towards the end and it was a simple process with the least amount of hassle. The claim team, specifically Ana, was a joy to deal with!

Won’t insure with anybody else

I have been exclusively using True Traveller for various working holidays since 2015 with my policies lasting between 1-2 years each time. Although I have rarely needed to claim (fortunately), anytime that I have has been resolved quickly and easily. My most recent claim was approved and resolved within 24 hours. I will be using True Traveller for as long as they’ll have me and wouldn’t want to be insured by anybody else.

Extremely disappointed

I am extremely disappointed in this insurance company, I purely went with them due to the fact they have very good reviews, which must be before people need to claim. The customer service and communication is awful. I have never had to claim on an insurance before but every person, I spoke to told me different things. After 4 days of being in hospital and wanting to leave as quickly as possible, I had to call and email numerous times to get any sort of information as the hospital kept asking me to contact them. I was then lied to and then received an email after finally leaving the hospital to the be told a decision would be made 2 days later. The helpline is 24/7 but clearly isn’t in terms of claims being accepted, the unnecessary stress this has caused was completely avoidable if all of the employees were doing their job properly. Eventually after getting my mother in law to phone, I then received an email saying they will put a payment guarantee with the hospital so we could leave, after waiting all day. I was being told 1/2 hours every time I spoke to someone when clearly this was able to be avoided from the first time I had called.
