Utility Point is ceasing to trade. Ofgem, the energy regulator, has appointed EDF as the new supplier for its customers. EDF will supply energy to all of Utility Point’s customers as of 18 September 2021. EDF will contact customers over the coming days and again in a few weeks when the transfer has been completed and their accounts have been fully set up. Customers need not worry, their supplies are secure. Former and current customers’ credit balances are protected. EDF may need to contact customers to determine the amount of any outstanding balance. Current and former customers who are in debit to Utility Point should wait to hear from EDF or Utility Point’s administrators who will talk to them about repayment arrangements. Ofgem’s advice to Utility Point’s customers is not to switch, but to sit tight and wait until EDF has been in touch. This will help make sure that the process of handing customers over to EDF and honouring any credit balances, is as hassle free for customers as possible. Utility Point customers can access more information at www.edfenergy.com/upfaqs or by calling 0333 009 7120. In an emergency situation please use the emergency contacts listed on the EDF website. More information can be found on the Ofgem website. Or if customers need additional support, call Citizens Advice on 0808 223 1133 or email them via their webform. Advice will also be shared on Ofgem’s twitter @ofgem and facebook channels

Governments looking after their own.

It was inevitable that the oil companies would put their prices up. Because we all stopped using petrol, aviation fuel etc so much during this pandemic governments around the world who survive on the tax from the oil companies and our insatiable appetite for everything oil-related which is taxed meant their coffers to pay the public sector wages was running low. What's the alternative, reduce civil servants ?!!!! no way, they will be the last to ever suffer financially or lose their jobs as so many have in the private sector

Over-promised

They advertised a great tariff, get locked in to beat price rises......then went bust. So clearly were advertising something they couldn't afford to maintain, now I'll get stuck with a massive price hike somewhere else.

We were absolutely gutted when Utility Point...

We were absolutely gutted when Utility Point ceased trading. During the years that we were with them, they always behaved in an exemplary manner. If we emailed them with a query they always got back to us within a very short time. We wish them luck.

A great pity.

Like everyone else, I am very sorry for all at this great company, thank them for their past service over 3+ years and wish them all good luck in the future. Meanwhile, my account has been transferred back to a company I left many years ago because of their charges.

UtilityPoint ceasing trading

In response to some of the fruitier comments I've read here (and I'm just a UtilityPoint customer like yourselves - I have nothing to do with the company, the Government or the energy industry), I believe the situation is that we should continue to pay as usual because the Government through Ofgem is protecting our payments. Our balances will be transferred to EDF in due course and we can then shop around for the best tariff. If like me you're on a fixed term, fixed price contract, you can't just move until you're notified that the contract has ended.

For anyone who thinks they've been charged double, UtilityPoint do collect double the amount between March and August than they do between September and February. Basically we're paying through the summer in advance for the energy we'd use during the winter. But it all comes down to your actual usage and it should all be sorted out at the end of the contract.

So take regular meter readings and certainly take one now if you haven't already, although I'm sure EDF will apportion your usage as appropriate.

The real issue here is that energy supply companies are apparently allowed to operate without adequately hedging their exposures. That's what's actually led to UtilityPoint ceasing to trade - and that's a matter for the Government and Ofgem. So I would suggest that you write to your MP and make it clear that you expect your 12 month contract to be honoured in full as the Government hasn't apparently done its job in regulating the industry properly.

Sad They've Gone Bump

Been with them 3 years never had an issue and friendly customer service the few times I've had to call. Always been very competitive when coming to renew contact. Sad they've gone bump.

They've gone bust

I had just recently switched, and they went bust after the gas price went up a little bit, suggesting that a) they didn't have enough capital to be in this business and b) they weren't buying wholesale in the forward market and/or hedging, and were buying spot which is a very risky way of doing business when you offer fixed deals to customers.
So as they're bust, no I wouldn't recommend them.

I'm also very sorry to see this company go under

I'm also very sorry to see this company fall having been with them the last 3 years. Good tariffs, excellent website and attentive staff. Worked very well whilst it lasted. I think some of the posters on here need to reflect that wholesale prices have more than doubled in the past 2 to 3 months. Small companies do not have the financial clout to absorb that sort of hit. I wish them all the very best in getting new positions elsewhere...there are plenty of jobs available out there (or so they say).

I Sympathy for others still owed money.

I feel really sorry for anybody out there, caught up as we were in being owed money by this company. We left this company in March/April and they continued to take money out of our account even though we had no deficit that required a payment. We also contacted Ofgem and sent letters (tracked and requiring a signature) to the company and the named directors informing them that we would be going through the Small Claims Court to get our money back. The whole complaints procedure etc. was taking so long that we decided to ask our bank (HSBC) to intervene. They raised a dispute with Utility Point and we received an immediate refund of our money. I was coming on this site today to advise other people experiencing similar difficulties to contact their bank for help. We consider ourselves fortunate as we had not realised that the company had ceased trading immediately after we were repaid. Maybe worth trying to take similar action. We have kept all emails and communications as evidence of our experience with this company.

I am truly saddened to hear the closing down of Utility Point. I found the customer service excellent and prices were always the best. I had just signed a new contract which was to begin on the 19th September 2021. I wish all the Management and all the staff the very best and hope they all get new jobs very quickly.
