Only interested in making money

Only interested in making money - my cat had to be put to sleep and charged £448 - normal vet fee is £160. They continued in hounding me for money (unfortunately it happened whilst I was away) sent emails threatening me with debt collection and showed zero care or empathy.
Was even told to find my own box or towel to wrap the body in - compounded an already distressing experience.

Customer service with lack of compassion

I called in an emergency at 5am about my cat excessively bleeding from the mouth and didn't know where blood was coming from. I was advised that i could come in and was seen within a few minutes of arrival. My cat was taken into the back and not treated in front of me. I waited to be told bleed was from cut of her tongue. No head injury or other cuts on the body just her tongue it was sliced and hanging off. Gave her pain medication and to take her to my own vet practice as hour from opening time. £603 bill. £350 consultation alone. They had to add on £25 admin fee as I have pet insurance. My cat recieved surgery and car from my day vet. All was fine until 5 days later when my cat started to eat again without tube when pain medication was wearing off managed to claw off one of her stitches. I called vets now as it is a Sunday to be told if not life threatening don't bother bringing her in. They couldn't even find my cats records. I found the lady on the phone very dismissive from second I called. Said come if I want but not much they can do but keep her till my own vet opens which is pointless. No empathy or suggestions on how to get her to take her liquid pain medication she's refusing to take via food or syringe orally.
I will be changing my local vet now so who are NOT registered with vets now so never have to deal with them again

Justified Complaint Still Unresolved

This poor score relates to my complaint regarding VETSNOW’s emergency treatment of my young puppy at new year.
Despite a straightforward case, with independent corroboration, their complaints consultant has still not answered my grievance, and it is now well over the 35 day timescale they stipulate.

Rang them in a panic and in a bad state of shock about my cat who has suffered a severe trauma to his eye which turned out to be from a collision with a car and there was no sympathy all they had to say was about how much it cost which obviously i know is necessary but that seemed to be all they were concerned about. Safe to say we took him elsewhere and they were extremely considerate and sympathetic towards the situation and dealt with it in a moral way. Awful service!

Last night my puppy took a turn (said this would happen from birth due to complications) I rung vets now out of hours and got told to come straight away. We got to the emergency vets and the reception lady was lovely. Unfortunately, I cannot say the same about the two people who saw my dog. They took about 10 minutes coming out to see my dog (even the reception lady asked what took them so long) and even took my 5 year old to ask why it was taking so long. once we were in the room, the comments made were horrendous; “we could just put him out of his misery” (dog is female)
The mother of pup is no longer producing milk, therefore, we have to feed pup and the man said “people shouldn’t be feeding puppies” and said quite a nasty comment about it being our fault.
The lady then came into the room and gave our puppy an injection and stabbed her numerous of times (in the wrong place) making her bleed so much that she went from a puppy who couldn’t move to one that did.
Would not recommend this vet

Great Treatment for our Elderly Dog

My phone call was answered immediately and I was told where to go. When I arrived the team helped transport the dog to the consulting area, carried out the assessment and helped get the dog back into the car. Report was available with my vet first thing in the morning. Whole process was rapid, friendly and professional.

You should know how they treat your pet

Its hard to write this as its still so traumatic.

In the first week of September my beloved Golden Retriever was left in a car by some friends who were looking after him and he died from heat stroke. It was a Sunday and he was taken to a Vets Now clinic in High Wycombe. I was away and unable to get there. The following day we spent the whole day trying to get hold of them so i could see him and say goodbye. They operate as an 'out of hours' vet and have a 'call centre' you speak to during the day - they are useless - give you generic information, have no access to medical notes and literally operate as a message service for when the practice opens at 7pm. Finally after an agonising wait at 7pm we got hold of a real person and went to the practice to see our dog. Thank goodness i had taken my cousin who is a vet with me. They were unclear right up until they had to be that Archie had not been stored in cold storage because its the policy of their cremation service, CPC, not to cold store dogs over 35kg - it was 30 degrees outside. My cousin insisted on going to see him first and thank goodness she did - less than 24 hours after he died the decomposition was so bad she said i musn't go in, she took a treasured lock of hair for me. This was Monday evening.

All day Tuesday we had the same situation of being unable to get hold of anyone. Finally Tuesday evening i got through to a woman at the practice who had no idea what was going on - i asked if he'd been sent to cremation, she said hang on, came back and said 'there is a dog in a body bag, with no name on it' - so distressing to hear them discussing him in this way. I had to explain the whole story AGAIN. So upsetting. No notes had been passed between staff and my poor boy has been sat there rotting in the heat all day again. Eventually i spoke to the practice manager - he admitted finally that Archie would not be collected by CPC until SATURDAY - 6 days after he died! He was do decomposed 24 hours after he died they wouldn't let me see him and they were going to leave him until Saturday. Even the practice manager was upset by now, saying the policy needed reviewing and he was so sorry. He gave us his personal details so we could get hold of him the following morning once we'd arranged another cremation service. He was wonderful - the ONLY wonderful thing about this horror story.

I arranged cremation through another company who were utterly appauled - they went early Wednesday and got my beautiful boy, they were so upset by his condition, they couldn't even take a paw print for me as he was so decomposed by now. And Vets Now wanted to leave him there rotting until Saturday. By thursday i had his ashes safe at home with me.

He died in horribly traumatic circumstances and Vets Now made this situation SO MUCH WORSE. At NO point did anyone make it clear he wouldn't be cold stored - i'd have moved him immediately. At no point was i told he wouldn't be collected for a week - i'd never have been ok with that. How is it ok for the poor people who work in the practice to work with a rotting corpse in 30 degree heat all week?

The complaints procedure has been a shambles. They tried to fob me off with a bunch of flowers! Referred to Archie has having been 'euthanised' - clearly cut and pasting 'sorry' emails. When this didn't work they tried to flog me £50. When i pointed out they'd still failed to address ALL my concerns, they said sorry they had responded to the best of their abilities - to which i asked how this was possible when i'd bullet pointed my queries and no-one has responded to them.

Ultimately as i told them from the start, i never want anyone else to go through this. My cousins vet practice also uses CPC and they arrange for next day collection if an animal can't be cold stored - that is their practice policy. Vets Now has tried to abrogate responsibility onto CPC at every turn during this process saying its their fault Archie wasn't cold stored, and nothing they can do about collection - this simply isn't true. They can change their policy to be clear to people immediately if their beloved pet isn't going to be cold stored and they can also arrange next day collection for deceased pets both with CPC AND with local cremation services. It is up to them and its disgusting to keep pretending it isn't.

The public should know how their loved pets may be treated by Vets Now. Ask questions if your animal passes away because they won't offer the information. Your vet practice should operate with professionalism and sensitivity if your pet dies, Vets Now have done the opposite - evasive, leaving my poor boy to rot for a week in an area where people are working all week!! Shamefully saying its not their fault rather than owning up to it. Shame on you Vets Now.

Misdiagnosed

Took my dog in as he was bleeding a lot from his genital area, upon arrival the receptionist was extremely friendly and very helpful with all questions asked, we waited around 45mins-1hour to see a vet as it was busy.

The vet we saw did not like my dog from the offset, he was very nervous around the dog even though I explained to him he was very friendly and never had an issues at all with examinations, he made me restrain my dog at which point wound him up.

I then explained to him that we had google searched the problem and the pictures and description matched what was wrong with my dog exactly, he said this was not the case and sent us home with some medication.

The next morning the situation got even worse and my dog was bleeding profusely from his genital area to the point I though he may even bleed out, I then took him to my regular vet and they referred him to a specialist who agreed with us he had the problem we tried to explain to man at this vets and he then underwent surgery the next day.

The vet also put on the description that my dog was boisterous, aggressive and needed to be handled with care when examining which is absolute rubbish. Both his normal vet and the lovely vet who performed his surgery would agree. They were both shocked and confused by these notes.

Overall bill was £487 for a misdiagnosis and some anti inflammatories

Overall an absolute shambles

Was very disappointed with the…

Was very disappointed with the treatment, I was told on the phone that a nurse would see my dog at the cost of £90 as my dog had ripped a claw which was bleeding, then when I arrived before anyone had looked at my dog we saw the Vet which then shot up to £318, this was done without asking us, the vet pulled off the bandage I had put on, they didn’t clean her paw then didn’t bandage it up because she barked and they looked petrified of her, bear in mind I have a golden retriever. She called the nurses in and they wanted to give her a shot of metacam and because she barked they took her away from me and said they had given it to her out the back, I have no idea if this happened or not, this made my dog very anxious, I was then sent out to reception to receive a bill of £395 for a shot of (apparently given) metacam and nothing else, how can this be justified. I left the practice with an anxious dog and they told me not to let her lick it, how was I supposed to do that, they didn’t offer s collar and you would think at the cost of nearly £400 they would just give you one. I was very upset by the lack of care.

Took my dog in with a twisted gut into High Wycombe was told the aprox cost that was terrifying but you go ahead hoping your best friend will be saved, He died on the operating theatre 3 hours after being admitted and i received an invoice for just under £4000. The cost was so much that it shocked my pet insurance company who would only pay up to a certain cost on each item. what shocked me most was the cost of the initial 10 minute consultation which was nearly £200 and the insurance would only pay £90. What also shocked me was the fact that they never respond to messages and when you get though to a person which i did 3 times they cut you off. I have now paid the balance in full after receiving threatening letters leaving myself in debt but wanted to ask how they justified the cost and if they had a payment plan to cover what was not covered by insurance. They say that the costs are justified due to out of hours which is rubbish because even their cremation cost is more and the same cheaper service is used for the day vets do it is about charging as much as you can from animals loving people who trust that they are not being ripped off. In a nutshell do not use this company as the cost is day light robbery and cannot be justified

Hi, I know it can be frustrating having to pay for an unplanned trip to the vets. Much like it is for other out-of-hours services in other industries, It's more expensive to run an out-of-hours pet emergency service than a general daytime practice. We've broken down where our costs go here if you'd like to find out more: https://www.vets-now.com/2018/01/emergency-vet-costs-prices-fees/.
