Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Considering 107 reviews, reviewers overwhelmingly had a great experience with this company. Many customers appreciate the opportunity to report empty properties and receive a thank-you voucher, often an Amazon or M&S gift card, for their efforts. People find the process of submitting property details easy and straightforward, with many noting the quick turnaround for receiving their initial £20 voucher. Reviewers are also motivated by the potential to earn a percentage of the sale price if the company successfully purchases and renovates the reported property, seeing it as a good way to contribute to community redevelopment. However, some customers expressed strong disapproval of the company's business model, questioning their right to incentivize individuals to report empty homes and raising concerns about the impact on property shortages. A few other people also felt that the pricing of properties was unclear or that company representatives were dismissive when questioned about certain aspects of their operations.

They keep their word and update you regularly

I heard about this website through friends, and, aware of a house that had been empty for over two years, sadly, I thought I would try it out. I received regular updates and the bonus of a £20 M&S voucher, just for sending an email ! I am delighted and will look for more empty properties. They need to be brought back into use.

Its legit if you spot a valid property

I spotted a property and forgot about it. A month or so later I got an email to say thanks with a £20 Amazon code to redeem which I have successfully added to my account. I can't comment on how genuine thw 1% claim is yet but I look forward to finding out.

Great

Took me a while to “spot” a property that met the criteria, but when I finally did they were quick to confirm and send the voucher. Would highly recommend!

Let's get those empty homes occupied

Reported an empty property and have just received the £20 amazon gift voucher, hoping that they are successful in purchasing the property for the 1% finders fee.
Good communications and highly recommend, to get all those empty dilapidated properties occupied again.

Great experience

There was a property near me that had been empty for years so when I heard about You spot I sent a photo and some info, I was thrilled when I received my M & S voucher. I have now reported another one and just received another voucher. Fantastic.

Big fans of You Spot Property

We're big fans of You Spot Property. We've dobbed in a couple of empty properties and received our M&S vouchers; most welcome. We are, of course, hoping that one of the properties will be acquired and refurbished. Meanwhile, we're on the look out for more voucher-bearing opportunities.

I have not yet participated in this…

I have not yet participated in this scheme, though it is certaimly an interesting business model. Two caveats spring to mind : Firstly, the finders' commissions will almost certainly count as taxable income as far as HMRC is concerned. Secondly, the scheme will attract those with time on their hands and very probably on state benefits. By supplementing their income in this way, the most successful property hunters risk falling foul of the regulations attached to receiving Universal Credit, PIP, DLA, and even Pension Credit. Consider your position carefully in respect of the above matters before signing up, and make certain to stay on the right side of the law. What seems like easy money often comes with unforeseen consequences.

You made a statement in the first line which said you haven’t participated and then went on to provide tax advice and proceeded to give us 1 star, can you see that this is remarkably out of order .

Fantastic experience

Fantastic experience,
I spotted a couple of empty properties so sent off the details.
Very quick form to complete, just upload a photo and enter the address of the property, followed by your details and what type of voucher you want and then sit back.
They are very quick to respond with whether the property is eligible or not (not a commercial property or been previously reported)
I successfully reported an eligible property only last month and today received £20 a
Amazon gift card code which i have redeemed.
So simple, I am unconsciously keeping an eye out for empty properties to report.

You Spot Property were very responsive and as promised I received a £20 Amazon gift card. Its good to know that they purchase property that's otherwise deteriorating and going to waste.

WHAT RIGHT does this company have to…

WHAT RIGHT does this company have to enlist the "help" of every nosey Tom, &Harry to seek out properties they see and assume are empty abandoned houses? And then contact this 'company ' in order to receive their "30 pieces of silver" for a job well done! HOW DO YOU KNOW these properties don't belong to someone who's mother, father, Aunty ,uncle or grandparents who've sadly either passed on or whom for whatever reason have now been rehomed in either a residential or Nursing home. The property may well have been willed to a relative and the estate is going through probate. THE LAST THING any owner (Legitimate) needs to deal with is companies like yours who are giving a cash incentive for information on empty properties jus so you can swoop in and perhaps purchase it for peanuts then either re-sell it at double or triple what you brought it for or rent it out to Lord knows who at an eye watering fee because of the obvious shortage of properties available Presently I suspect it's the latter scenario...I think irrespective of what your intentions are it's pretty disgusting and Nafarious! Shame on you! IN RESPONSE TO UR REPLY. I have no interest in contacting you to discuss anything I stand by EVERY WORD IVE SAID! Your motives are nafarious and Morally wrong. END OF

Dear Bops

Many thanks for your review, which isn’t actually a review it’s more a complaint about the work that we do, however I’d like to explain a couple of points.

1. Bringing empty homes back into use is helping and helps the shortage of housing.

2. Long term empty homes can have a severely negative impact on neighbours and can be associated with anti social behaviour.

Of course there are instances where homes are empty for some of the reasons you mentioned, such as going through probate or due to someone going into care but they’re typically not the houses we go on to purchase although houses associated to probate are typically sold as are houses being dealt with by court appointed deputies.

The work we do is positive and not at all what you think or have told yourself, perhaps a conversation with someone from our team may have put your mind at ease.

In reply to your edited part of your review

The business is about bringing empty homes back in to use plain and simple we have been involved ultimately in bringing more empty homes back in to use than any other private company in the UK most of which have not been acquisitions but advising the property owners with useful advice and supporting them with help and guidance.

In 13 years you’re the only person that I can think of, out of circa 200,000 people who has been affronted by the concept of the business, which maybe says more about you than us put simply we can’t please all the people all the time but we try our best to.

I’m genuinely sorry that you don’t like what we do but knowing that the essence of what we do benefits lots of people, I can accept your negative review.
