We had booked a pitch at campsite Oban

We had booked a pitch at campsite Oban. Upon arrival at 8:05 pm, we couldn’t find a form with our details for access to the site. After about 10 minutes, we were told that someone had phoned. It was only when he mentioned this that we realised we had a missed call. We were unable to reach an agreement with that person to stay on the campervan site. I asked whether the amount paid would be refunded; he promised to do, unfortunately we received till now nothing. After another contact they refund the money, thank you!

Extremely disappointed at the Club's inflexability

We booked a 4 night stay at their Crowden site, after the first night, we decided that the site was too remote for us, so I rang head office and asked if we could transfer 2 of the remaining 3 nights to another (cheaper) site that had availability, and fully expected an additional admin fee. The club refused to transfer our booking and there would be no refund.
The Camping and Caravan Club certainly didn't live up to its "Friendly Club" claim in our case, and we are extremely disappointed in their lack of flexibility.

Very disappointed with this company’s…

Very disappointed with this company’s attitude and lack of empathy. I was a member for 2 years, but only stayed at 2 of their sites, one each year and booked on the day as we like to tour with our tent. Last Sunday 19th June we were travelling back from the Kintyre peninsula and booked a night at Balmaha in the Trossachs on our way home Sadly there was a fatality on the one main road out of the peninsula and the road closed. The diversion on a single track road also was blocked due to an articulated vehicle getting stuck and we were gridlocked. I kept in touch with the campsite as nothing moved for 4 hours and eventually the owner said we would not make it. I’d paid in advance and he said to ring the club the following morning.
The attitude was unreal! No refunds under any circumstances Company policy. When I spoke to a manager and suggested that if no refunds- could they not just renew my membership - it expired in March so £40.40 would be about pro rata the annual one of £57- no couldn’t do that. Company policy , but as a one off I could move my booking within 48 hours. We go to Dartmouth in October for the food festival to I rang to book the Saturday night - no you have to have a minimum of 2 nights on all their sites. Company policy. I have only ever stayed one night -oh that’s because you booked in the day Company Policy. How about you hold onto my £40.40 and I chance it and book Dartmouth on the day if available ? No cannot hold the money, Compant policy.
I can’t stay 2 nights but how much to book- oh that would be £97 with electric- I don’t want electric it’s a TENT I just want a grass pitch- Oh you have to have electric as its COMPANY POLICY!
They are unreal and what is absolutely laughable is that they have a recorded message asking that callers are respectful of their call handlers.
This Company is 100% about money , does not care about people or circumstance and is totally inflexible. Avoid at all costs.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback.

Firstly, we're very sorry to hear about the circumstances that prevented you from reaching our Milarrochy Club Site. We appreciate how distressing and frustrating it must have been to be caught in such exceptional traffic disruption, particularly following a serious incident outside of your control.

We're also sorry to learn that you were disappointed with the outcome of your conversations with our Membership Services team. We understand that this was not the resolution you were hoping for.

Our booking terms and conditions are designed to ensure fairness and consistency for all members and guests, and while our team will always look at the options available, there are occasions where they are unable to make exceptions to these policies. We appreciate that this was frustrating in your situation.

We're disappointed that this experience has left you with such a negative impression of the Club. Your feedback has been noted and will be shared with the relevant teams, as we continually review both our policies and the service we provide to our members and guests.

Thank you again for taking the time to let us know about your experience.

A stop for the rhs flower show

Very good site but the wardens were to regimental for me , all I kept hearing from people was the wardens keep walking around and checking people’s outfits out and annoying them being petty I travel all over the country stopping at different sites and I’m afraid that the toilet and shower block is very dated especially when you compare to the caravan and motor home sites the pitches need widening as small well the hard standing ones are I’m afraid the caravan and camping club needs a revamp to keep up as the prices are the same

A wonderful Site and a wonderful Team

A wonderful Site and a wonderful Team, I was taken ill mid week and blue lighted to Hereford County Hospital where I stayed until the following Tuesday, Andrew and Theresa could not have been more helpful, ensuring my wife was looked after in every way. Neighbouring caravaners pitched in helping her with every aspect of ensuring the Caravan functional, a huge bonus to me knowing she was not left to fend for herself while I was hospitalised, now all safely back home!

Thank you for sharing your experience with us.

We're so pleased to hear that, despite the unexpected circumstances during your stay, you and your wife received such wonderful support from the team and fellow campers. It's heartwarming to know that Andrew and Theresa went above and beyond to help ensure your wife was looked after while you were receiving care in hospital.

The kindness and community spirit shown by our guests is something we truly value, and we're delighted that your fellow caravaners were there to offer help and reassurance when it was needed most.

We hope you are now fully recovered and back home safely, and we wish you and your wife all the very best. We look forward to welcoming you back for a future stay when the time is right.

Great experience

Renewed for the last few years. To be honest we haven't camped as much as I'd like but when we have I've been happy. The discount on the DFDS ferry has paid for the membership in any case. It's a great perk.

Rude and unhelpful staff

Rude and unhelpful staff.
After booking at the Walton on Thames site for an overnight stay I was advised that without a chemical toilet I was not allowed to stay. This left me without a place to park for the night. The staff there were very rude and unhelpful and refused to refund me my booking fee. I would avoid where you can. These places should be friendly and fun places to stay. This wasn't.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback.

We're sorry to hear about your experience at Walton on Thames and appreciate how frustrating it must have been to find that you were unable to stay on arrival.

Our sites without toilet facilities require guests to have their own suitable onboard or portable toilet arrangements, as this is necessary to ensure appropriate hygiene standards for everyone using the site. We appreciate that this may have been disappointing, particularly if this requirement was not what you were expecting.

We're also sorry to hear that you felt the team were unhelpful during your interaction. Our aim is always to provide a friendly and supportive welcome, even when we need to explain site requirements or policies.

We recommend that guests check the site facilities and requirements before arrival, particularly for sites where specific arrangements are needed. However, we appreciate your feedback and will share your comments with the relevant teams.

Thank you again for taking the time to let us know about your experience.

Amending a booking

On the whole ghe experience over the last year with the camping and caravanning cub has been fine. Just last week i had to ring the main office to amend a booking. It was just unfortunated that it was less than the 7 days. I recieved an emergency hospital app for Monday morning thetefore we could not travel for our 2 day stay at kidderminster on the Sunday. I spoke to a young gentleman who explained i could not amend the booking but could add another day but i would have to pay for the night I was cancelling. Not happy with this i was passed on to a customer services lady. I explained again the situation. Again i was told i could not transfer the night. I was not very happy about this having been a member for nearly 30 years. She reluctently changed the decision and amended the booking. I think when its an unforseen circimstance there should be a little leeway wiyhout being interorgated.

Their Club Care Insurance needs sorting out - CCC are great

Was sent a request letter from these to get a quotation for a touring caravan Insurance Policy - if they can't beat my renewal, for a like-for-like Policy, they will give me a voucher for 2 nights caravanning at a CCC Site.
I've had quotations from Club Care before and they have always been way too expensive for a poorer Policy, but, I thought, give it a go .... 2 nights camping on offer if they fail again.
First quotation was online, and, as expected, they were silly expensive for a poorer policy - so I contacted them and asked for my 2 free nights camping voucher - as promised.
We need to go through it manually on the phone again (obviously to do some underwriting tricks) - OK I said, and went through it all again .... matching as far as I could my renewal policy quotation, they asked how much my renewal was - I said that I will tell you when you come back with your best price ..... off they went, came back with £220.
As I thought I said, my renewal is £146 with my current Insurer - for a superior Policy, with additional benefits. So I will take the 2 free night voucher you promised me. I'll send in my renewal so that you can confirm my claim.
Hold on they said and went away, came back, we can make it £139 now!!! What??? £220 to £139 in 3 minutes?? Some underwriting playing has taken place - and my renewal Policy is superior anyway - so, I have complied by my end of the offer you made, I am due the 2 free night voucher.
No, they said, we have beaten you renewal by £7 so you don't get the voucher - WHAT? But my Policy is superior - they are not comparable - that doesn't matter they said ............... but it does your way if my Policy wasn't as good????
That's rather unethical and a terrible way to treat people don't you think??
I am shocked and disappointed that the CCC whom I have been a member for over 30 years have anything to do with these shady practices.
Be aware, if they treat you like this when they want your business how will they treat you when/if you need to make a claim.
Disgraceful way to treat people!!! AVOID!!!!!
**Update** CCC have commented that this review is incorrect - I have a slight issue with that as CCC align themselves 100% behind Club are Insurance. CCC are fantastic and I have been a member for decades - but, they really need to be aware of the unethical operation of their chosen Insurance Company who they promote hugely in fliers, magazines, offers..... So, CCC need to address it. CCC get 5 stars from me, ClubCare insurance get 0 stars - but CCC are so tightly attached that their reputation is affected - they can't distance themselves from ClubCare whilst at the same time push their members into using them!!!

We'd just like to clarify that this review relates to Club Care Insurance. The Camping and Caravanning Club acts as an Introducer Appointed Representative of A-Plan Holdings, but we do not manage or operate Club Care Insurance directly.

However, we would like to hear more about this case so that we can raise this with the team at A-Plan and address this.

Is this a way to treat members?

On 4th May, having rejoined the club after many previous years membership, and a stay at Graffham I wrote a rare 5 star review about the club. That was pretty shortlived as it turns out. Two stays at Graffham were booked in March, the second one for July. This month the club came out with the 125GRASS promo for members and non members so I rang and asked what would I be charged. I'm told despite being members the discount can't be backdated. So because we booked early to avoid potential disappointment at a very popular site we'll now have to pay £36.40 more for our week than Joe Bloggs, member or otherwise who's just booked, turning up possibly next door. Our deposit was £52. I'd lose that by cancelling and rebooking so no point to save £36. I might possibly understand the refusal to non members but to members? I don't think so and I don't think we'll renew unless as a result of a written complaint they change their mind which I doubt very much.

We joined The Camping and Caravanning…

We joined The Camping and Caravanning Club during our campervan road trip through England because we expected it to make spontaneous travel and campsite bookings easier.

Unfortunately, our experience was very disappointing. On several occasions, campsites were either fully booked or impossible to reach by phone. As spontaneous bookings often required calling the site directly, we found the membership extremely difficult to use in practice.

Although we genuinely wanted to make use of our membership, we only managed to stay at one club campsite during our trip. On several other occasions, we were unable to secure a pitch and were instead directed to alternative campsites in the area.

As a result, the membership turned out to be an expensive experience for us, as we were only able to use it successfully once despite multiple attempts throughout our trip.

The club may work well for people who plan their trips well in advance. However, for spontaneous campervan travel, where plans often change during the day, it was not practical for us.

Overall, the membership did not meet our expectations and we would not purchase it again.

We stayed at the Alton Star for 2 x…

We stayed at the Alton Star for 2 x nights. I booked this site due to the close proximity of Alton Towers and being with 5 children.

We arrived and was informed the top field was waterlogged. This was a lie as there was a Raleigh of gay pride group with several marquee, tents and caravans. I explained I requested to be on the top field so the boys can play ball games and I could watch them so they are safe.

We were placed on the bottom field and on arrival. The pitch was down hill and not ideal however we just got on with it. We were told that the boys couldn't play ball games on the bottom fieldand the must go to the top field that was closed with the Raleigh?

I questioned the staff as there was no signage stating no ball games allowed. I read the information pack and again no suggestions that ball games were not allowed.

My boys were directed to a football pitch that was completely not safe due to pot holes, overgrown grass and completely uneven. This pitch was a good 15 minutes walk up a hill past the Raleigh.

My boys were playing football at the bottom of the lower field completely away from any vans or tents under my supervision. A member of staff soon came running down and said that someone had complained which again is was a lie as the area was completely empty.

This is not a family friendly location. Staff are not open and honest and have zero common sense. This location is more designed for the older generation and I would absolutely not recommend if you have children.

The toilet and showers were well kept and clean. All the tent pitches are a on a hill.

Don’t care about or help their members

As members booked a two night stay at Clent Hills as it was close to a venue for a race I was participating in. I’ve trained hard for months, early mornings several times per week, I’ve put my heart and soul into it. We didn’t even need two nights, but due to their minimum stay policy had to, I accepted extra costs. We were already on one leg into our journey when customer services rang asking me to call them…seconds before they closed for the day so absolutely no chance of speaking to them til 9am on Saturday. Message said to ring the site directly, so I did. They were annoyed I’d been told to do this. Site can’t speak plain simple English, or be honest with their customers as to what the situation actually is, led me to believe given my need to be there there may be options there or on another site. Specifically told me there was no security as they would have to pass costs on. Spoke to customer services on the Saturday 1. There was security, the situation was that bad it had been smashed through. 2. There was no chance whatsoever of a place on another site, other customers had been prioritised ahead of us and no spaces. 3. No support to find anything else or compensation for increased costs due to ridiculously late notice. Absolutely devastated as basically meant I missed my event. They don’t care in the slightest! Sharing as I don’t want anyone else to go through what I have.

Charged four times for my annual…

I was charged four times for my annual subscription.
It was not until I saw my bank statement that I found out.
Called the club. I wanted them to find the wrror so it doesnt happen to anyone else and gave them 48 hours before contacting my bank.
Contacted my bank.
I received a call yesterday from The CCC offering 25% discount on the deposit for a holiday. To be honest I find this a tad insulting because it is a 'we give you something, we get something back'. I asked for two nights free at Sandringham. To be fair, I think they should offer me two weeks because I reported a very serious fault. CHECK YOUR BANK STATEMENTS?? Oh, and the club said it was a fault with their payment processor 3rd party. TBH, I don't care. I just want a flag on my membership to say that I had paid. I paid 3 times by internet and the fourth was a penny dearer for some reason by phone call. I cannot remember the exact date of the incident so just picked one.

Dreadful service.Taken out caravan…

Dreadful service.Taken out caravan break down cover via by Camping and Caravanning Club. In late May 2026, had caravan indicator electrical issues. Spoke to their staff member in UK. Astoningly, their member of staff initially stated hard to get people in France to do this; when challenged on common fault, she then said backlog in France as four days after French Bank Holiday. We had observed no such backlog. Eventually a mechanic turned up in own family car with no tools at all. However, used my screwdrivers and together we fixed, thankfully. Then had call from Camping and Caravanning club to say they'd been notified fault fixed and caused by caravan spark plugs! Dreadful customer service and the club is long past its sell by date, unfortunately.

Bad booking process. Rejoined as member paid the fee. Unable to book site online (says I’m a bot) tried to ring the customer service line, long wait times couldn’t get through two days in a row, tried to ring site direct they won’t book me in as it’s all “online” now.
