Very Disappointed

Unfortunately, our experience with Daylight Energy has not been great from start to finish,

We originally signed up with Daylight Energy back in January this year, on the promise that we would get the RHI government grant. This grant meant that the system had to be commissioned and installed before the 31 March 2022. I heard nothing from them, even though I was continuously chasing to get confirmation that fitters would be onsite and installing the system before this date! Daylight Energy even posted on Facebook 2 weeks before the cut-off date, that they still had spaces to get the grant, and it took me commenting on this post on social media to finally get the company's attention.

I was initially told that the date was for sign up only, but when I notified Daylight Energy that this was not the case, and the government website clearly stated it had to be "commissioned" before the 31 March it seemed panic mode set in, and I am guessing that is why the cowboys that came and fitted our system were rushed in!

It seemed to take them an age to fit, they were on and off site for a few weeks, and it now turns out the job was not done properly at all! We started a house renovation in July and the plumber we have in on-site was the person that first notified us that there were clear issues with the fitting of the ASHP cylinder, amongst the problems were using push fit into a pressured cylinder, which should not have been done, and the D2 Discharge pipe to the outside had not been fitted either! These are REAL SAFETY ISSUES. If we had not had builders onsite and a plumber that knows his trade, we would never have known this and if the pump had overheated, well I dread to think.

Granted, they did send someone back to rectify and add in the missing pipe, but only after we had noticed the problems.

My real issue is not only was the installation sub-par, but the whole system was signed off and commissioned, when it was not fit for purpose.

We have been promised on numerous occasions that the owner of the company will call us to chat through the issues, this call has never happened, and all in all it has been a stressful experience that I would not like to go through again.

We would have liked to get solar panels at some point to run off the ASHP but we will have to take our business elsewhere as I do not feel like Daylight Energy is reliable enough. Subcontractors, regardless of them being that, are the Company’s responsibility. They fit under their name and so Daylight as a company are responsible for them, and the fact that they used such ill-equipped plumbers leaves me feeling more than a little annoyed. Our heat pump cost us nearly £12k, regardless of the grant. We expected more!

Adding an air source heat pump to our original solar panel system

We are very pleased with our new air source heat pump, new radiators and insulation. The house is warm, we get nice hot water. Having our original solar panels and now an air source heat pump seems to be a great combination. The plumbers, insulator and electrician did a great job of installing the heating system. We were very impressed with their expertise and they worked hard and efficiently. However we do not feel that we have been given enough advice with operating the running of the system. We are gradually working out how to use it but still need more information and help.

Goodbye to gas!

Goodbye to gas!! 25 January 2022
Daylight Energy made it a happy experience having my gas central heating system & boiler replaced with an air source heat pump! I approached this change of heating source recently with trepidation as it is certainly a big change to a home involving major disruption; however I thought the time was right with gas prices increasing dramatically & the fact that gas is not good for our planet. The government incentive to do away with gas boilers in the near future was an added compelling reason. Daylight Energy took the trouble to explain everything carefully and arranged the separate visits of 2 surveyors to ensure my property was suitable for this conversion & to propose where the enormous heat pump could go. The terrific installers, a plumber and electrician were charming, professional, tidy, meticulously thorough and extremely hard-working & caused as little disruption as they could in the circumstances. They worked all hours to complete the changeover and properly test everything and eventually left having tidied up and replaced things as they were before. I am now a very happy occupant of a cosy warm home with no gas boiler & a very small bill to pay for gas cooking. If this change is suitable for you I highly recommend Daylight Energy to carry it out! Their professional contractors ably assisted by the efficient office back-up team made it all seem easy and seamless - even down to the collection of the unwanted bits of pipe and materials at the end! A huge thank you to all involved!

First Class design and installation

After buying an electric car I was looking for some more solar panels to increase the output of my existing 14 panel system so that I could charge the car with excess power during the day. I also required a battery to store the power for use at night and charge on low price economy 7 power for use in the day until the solar kicks in. I approached Daylight Energy who impressed me with their knowledge and expertise providing a practical plan to fit 6 more panels on the south facing roof of my garage with the battery and inverter in the garage on the wall. Everything was installed with little problems and is now working very efficiently.

Daylight Energy.

We decided to convert from a very old and inefficient gas boiler to an air source heat pump in October. Mr Dave Humphriss, CEO of Daylight Energy, came to see us twice to explain the principles of the heat pump and assure us of its efficiency. In the following weeks, l mostly liaised with Miss Victoria Coleman who co-ordinated the operation. The heat pump was installed on 6/7th Jan by an excellent plumber, Dave Chorley, and 2 electricians. The operation required the heating and power to be turned off so we spent two nights in a hotel. Because of COVID, the plumber was working without his assistant so he was unable to change the old radiators but he will complete this in a few days time.
The heat pump is working very well giving us heat and hot water. I would recommend highly Daylight Energy.

Solar panel installation.

My solar panels were installed and up and working in 24 hours.
The standard of communication with Daylight Energy was excellent and the quality of the work was also excellent.
I am very happy with the result and would recommend Daylight Energy to anyone wishing to have a solar panel installation added to their home.

HAD TO SUE COMPANY FOR RETURN OF DEPOSIT

Edit 23 May 2021:

Summary: The company took a deposit of £4,100 from my dad, who is nearly 80, for installation of air source heat pump. They carried out a survey, but then did very little else for almost two months. When he asked for confirmation that additional works (that the survey said was necessary) would be included in the contract price he got no response. When he then asked for his deposit back, they refused and then discontinued contact. They have never quantified or evidenced the costs they say they incurred.

In its response to my review dated 13 May 2021, the director has made a number of statements. I provide a detailed response to each below:

1. The director claims the only difference the survey raised was recommended radiator upgrades.

My response: The survey conclusion did recommend rad. upgrades (point 7) which my dad was prepared to pay for (see his email below, point 3). HOWEVER the survey also stated, at POINT 3, “[...] five electric heaters must be installed in the basement”. This was a new requirement not quoted for. It is strange that the company should now be contending that the point of dispute was the radiator upgrades rather than the additional electric heaters, because this was not only made clear in several emails but also in the Letter Before Action and in the court documents (Particulars of Claim point 18). Either the company is intentionally ‘misunderstanding’ the point of contention in order to obfuscate the real issues, or is not competent to understand and respond appropriately to issues raised by its clients regarding survey findings. Both possibilities raise legitimate concerns about the way it conducts its business.

The director also confirmed to his locally-based agent that 5 heaters were necessary to qualify for government incentive.

My father wrote the following in an email to the director on 7 November 2019:

I believe that we have now reached a position where I need you to confirm that:
1. The proposed installation [… ] as further particularised in your surveyor’s report and as qualified by the requirement for installation of new electric heaters in the basement […] will fulfil the requirements of the RHI scheme
2. You will [..] deal with the application to register the installation with Ofgem
3. The overall cost of the installation including the basement heaters […] will remain at [contract amount]. For the avoidance of doubt I confirm I am prepared to bear the cost of upgrading such of the existing radiators in the property as I decide to pursuant to recommendations in conclusion no. 7 of your surveyor’s report.

After 2 weeks no response had been received.
So, given all the other delays, on 21 November 2019 my dad sent an email terminating the contract and requested a refund of his deposit.

2. Director accused my dad of delays.

Response: Company waited almost two months to apply for planning permission, and only did so after my dad emailed them and said he would terminate the contract if they did not get on with it.

3. The director claims he tried to resolve the matter after my dad terminated the contract:

This is absolutely untrue. An agreement was made on the telephone for the repayment of the deposit on 25 Nov. 2019 but director then apparently changed his mind and sent emails saying we couldn't have the deposit back. Then all contact was cut off until Feb 2021 (when CCJ would have affected their credit rating). Apart from the planning consent costs, which my dad always offered to pay, many costs were mentioned but none were ever quantified or evidenced. e.g., the costs of reserving the equipment for the installation. No invoice was ever provided in spite of promises to do so.

4. Director claims he contacted us in August 2020

This is also untrue. No response to the Letter Before Action was received, no phone call, no letter, no email, no text. Nothing.

5. Director claims judgement was overturned:

The CCJ was not overturned. We consented to it being set-aside in return for part payment of the debt.

6. Director says he tried to phone me

No calls/voicemail received after I left messages asking him to call in Oct 2020, or ever. Director is invited to provide call logs so I can raise this with my phone company. If he had really wanted to discuss matters, he could have emailed or phoned my dad before claim was filed (3 weeks later).

7. Director claims they act in accordance with accreditors guidelines

It is concerning that an accredited company treats customers in this way and I am informing accrediting authorities about our experience. The decision to leave a negative review has not been taken lightly. My motivation is to create transparency and accountability so that others can take steps to avoid a similar situation happening to them. It was very stressful and hard work to get refund.

Imogen, I've read through your feed back and the information you have mentioned is completely incorrect and unjustified.

The survey we carried out shows that the system we originally designed for your father (LG Therma V 16kW high temp) was exactly what was needed and specified in the survey report. The only difference is that we ADVISED a number of radiator upgrades, we do this to ensure the heat pump runs at optimum efficiency but this is ONLY a recommendation we didn't change the quotation in any way.

Your father made no comment on this and waited a further 8 weeks before cancelling the order, at such time we had also secured planning consent to carry out the works at his request. The agreement you highlighted can be seen below -

Good morning Mr Beveridge,

Following on from our conversation yesterday I can confirm that if either:

i) The survey reveals that we can't carry out our works or that we are incorrect in our calculations.
Or
ii) That panning permission in a form acceptable to you cannot be achieved, then we will void our contract and return the deposit in full, less the planning application fees.

Thank you for your business and we look forward to working with you.

The above agreement was achieved in full however your farther did cancel his order in November 2019, 4 months after originally placing it and in such time we as a company had incurred costs, again at his request.

There were numerous emails back and forth outlining costs we had incurred and I spoke to your farther on the phone to discuss a resolution. Things then went very quite and we did not get a response despite several attempts.

We then received a letter and email from your father threatening further action August last year, at this time we again outlined the cost incurred but no agreement could be met.

We received a Count court claim (by post only) and at such time the country was in a national lockdown and our offices were closed, as such the allotted time given by the court to dispute the matter had passed and the CCJ was awarded. When we returned to the office and saw the paperwork we immediately made contact and our solicitor got involved and very quickly overturned the CCJ. I then re-established communication with your father and an agreement was made to return part of his deposit after deducting the costs incurred as previously discussed and agreed. The refund was issued through our solicitors immediately and was released once contracts were agreed with your father. I would also like to note that I called you a 4 occasions and left a voicemail and you also never returned my calls.

As a business we do not take any costs from customers deposits without justification and always act in accordance with our accreditors guidelines. I am happy to provide evidence for any of the points made above and do not appreciate you tarnishing our good reputation.

Please feel free to call our office on 01202800135 if you would like to discuss the matter further.

Nothing but praise to give

Nothing but praise to give.
Daylight Energy took the time to fully explain and outline all the technical and logistical options and implications. Installation was prompt clean and efficient and they sent around workers who were a pleasure to have in the house (especially given COVID restrictions) . They have an attentive service desk and the owner of the business is easy to reach and pays attention to the outcome .
I am now off the gas grid altogether thanks to a quiet air source heat pump and the solar panels and Tesla battery are doing a superb job of reducing electricity consumption.
All rubbish was cleared promptly.
I never give 5 stars as businesses always need to carry on improving but I’m sure the aftercare will be good.

Dream Come True

Installing solar panels was something I'd wanted to do for a long time, but thought was out of my price range. Then, when Covid happened and I began to work from home, I realized I had a good opportunity. Many businesses were in limbo when I started to research and put the feelers out, but David contacted me quite quickly and came round to view the property promptly. His assessment was bespoke and he wanted to tailor each piece of equipment to my consumption needs as I wanted panels and a battery. The initial quote therefore, was a really pleasant and affordable surprise! Suddenly it all seemed possible! The installation took place about a month later - great job lads, thank you! - and I was self-powered within days. Sure there was some snagging, but the team were brilliant, and responded promptly and stayed later to finish the job. I am so pleased I have been able to convert to solar. The battery is usually at 100% so I'm looking forward to an almost non-existent fuel bill next month. I don't know how the winter months will be but from a climate change point of view, I have no regrets. Thank you DLE!

Customer service non existent

Customer service non existent. We've had our heat pump for a few months; it's needed a bit of fine tuning and always takes several phone calls to get anything done. Latest is that the pressure has dropped and the knob to adjust it is stuck fast. I've lost count of the number of times my husband has phoned about it. Not good enough.
