Awful! DO NOT USE.
Faulty boiler. Checked website for local company. Phoned them and told them problem. They took personal details, address etc. Then said an engineer would be with me today latest 4pm today. Sai £175 +vat per hour. They took my card details too!!?!
Then got a phone call 5 hours later to say there was no engineer in the area. And they have NO Engineers at all coming!!
I asked how to complain and they said you can't.

Absolute rip off

Absolute rip off. Called for a boiler service and was told it would cost £125. Actual cost £150 for no service. A scruffy man arrived and spent a few minutes fiddling with the pressure valves. He then said I had called for a fault not a service and you can't have both. Boiler still did not work and I called to complain. Told another call out would be a further fee. Cowboys - avoid.

Bunch of cowboys

I was told I would be £165 to have a faulty tap fixed. I asked if this would be the call out charge and was told no that was the full cost. A so called, very unprofessional looking plumber appeared and changed the washer. Then £200 was taken on my credit card as they hadn’t mentioned VAT being added. 24 hours later the tap isn’t working again. Their customer services is an online chat. I was told the plumber would call me but he hasn’t. Fortunately the credit card company have been able to stop the payment and safeguard my card against any future fraudulent use.

Faulty boiler

Faulty boiler. Checked website for local company with local number. Phoned them and told them problem and even gave them fault error code from display. Advised engineer visit would required and quoted £125 +vat. Thought this was for engineers time to fix and accepted that replacement parts would be extra. Found out later that this was the hourly rate. Engineer visited and confirmed fault saying he would pass info back to ERG head office who would forward me quote for replacement part and labour costs. Heard nothing. Did some research and found that ERG were infact based over 400 miles from me and do not have their own engineers as implied on their website. Phoned credit card company and thankfully no money taken so card company cancelled card to stop any pending payments.
If you check out BBC Rogue Traders you will see exactly what ERG are about. They promised that programme they would stop their mis-leading practices but are still doing these.
DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. Their director has had a number of similar companies and they have all folded. To put it mildly he is a fraudster.

I'd prefer Cholera

I'd prefer Cholera

If you have the choice between getting cholera from your broken plumbing, and dealing with these thieves, I recommend the option that causes less pain and suffering (the disease). If ERG were a restaurant, you'd order off the set menu, they'd charge you for the full set menu, then arrive with nothing but a plate of chips.
They do just enough that calling them criminals would technically be inaccurate, but my hatred for this company's business practices is something else.

Poor performance

Poor performance. We waited all day with water turned off after a leak. Call centre down South with local Yorkshire phone number. Reading previous reviews makes you wonder if the set up is a scam. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!

Way too expensive

I had a flood in my basement. Called the number which was under a local area code, and it said something about "reasonably priced" on the website. The call was answered "Liam speaking", rather than the name of the company. I shouldn't have gone ahead, since he told me up front that they would charge £240 an hour. Plumber came out within the expected time - very pleasant, but he couldn't do anything other than test the water pump and confirm it had failed. He was here for about 30 mins approx. The receipt came for one hour's labour at the quoted price. I responded mentioning as above and that I would not be using them again. I have since checked the going hourly rates for an emergency plumber, and this company is charging way above that. I also contacted trading standards, but unfortunately they are unable to do anything. I felt I should at least warn other people.

This is the worst company ever

This is the worst company ever. DO NOT use it. Customer service is appalling. They charged £150 plus VAT for unblocking a kitchen sink. The sink was blocked again in a few days time and it started leaking as well. When I tried to contact them, they just ignored my messages, they put the phone down on me and when I eventually spoke to someone I was told that I had to raise another job request and pay again. A complete shambles! This company shouldn't operate, it is fraudulent.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS

Booked an emergency in the morning, significant flood in the house. Promised someone would turn up ASAP. No one arrived, followed up and told before 6pm. 7.30pm they arrived, took one look and left. ERG state you will only be charged for time and parts, not initial visits, I have been charged for £150 for nothing and they are very unhelp with regards to refunding the money. Apparently it's online chat only. Absolute disgrace, avoid like the plague. The company is a con.

£175 taken from me for poor service...may as well have just given it away!

Rang ERG as boiler not working and we were desperate having not been able to get any local engineers to come at short notice. ERG promised same day attendance in our area and explained that they don’t charge call out but it would cost £145 + Vat (so £175) for the first hour’s attendance and said that most of the time their engineers do fix the problem in that time frame. Decided to go ahead and gave credit card details. As promised an engineer did appear within a couple of hours, spent 5 minutes on the properly and said it was the fan that had gone and he would have to order one and come back the day after next. He did not return as promised so rang him direct but he was not available but promised a call back. This call back never came. Rang ERG direct and they said they only use their live chat...so tried that and did get a response but their operatives were very vague and just said we would need to approve the part when it came in (possibly another £150 to £199). Then communication stopped. In the end contacted ERG again to cancel the job and they advised that this would be no problem but that the £175 would be payable. Had to accept this as I had agreed to their terms for the first hour’s call..even though I explained that the engineer had only been with us 5 minutes and had not come back as promised or returned our calls. ERG explained that we had decided to stop the job and not them so I did pay up as I sensed that this matter could escalate into big money. We then got a local independent engineer to come three days after closing the call with ERG and he said there was nothing wrong with the fan at all and he got the boiler going and fully working in 10 minutes. At the end of the day ERG are not doing anything illegal as the customer agrees to their terms but it does not seem very ethical to send someone for 5 minutes, misdiagnose the fault, not return on the agreed date and then still charge the full amount without apology or the offer of a reduction. I’m glad we cut our losses and ‘bought ourselves out’ of what could have become a very expensive and unnecessary repair. Lesson learnt is to use local trusted tradespeople in your area who you know are ‘Gas Safe’ accredited.

Never use this company grossly over priced and poor service

Never, ever use this company, I had a CH burst needed an immediate call out on a Friday afternoon. I promised plumber within 30 to 90 mins, after 2 hours plus no plumber had arrived called back well see what we can do and call you back asap 45 mins later called back to say the plumber was running late, eventually arrived after 3 hours. payed the bill and was charged £198, questioned it, as it was not what was quoted and was told that the cost including VAT.
Advised that they would look into it and if I was due a refund I would get one. Grossly over inflated prices for those in an already difficult situation. This company take a huge amount of money as an intermediate service arranging for a tradesman to attend. I will never use them again and advise everyone else not to do so either.

Lousy, arrogant bunch of shysters

I called at 8 when our boiler failed to start, it was -3 outside. The engineer arrived quickly and confidently told me the fan was busted. If a fan could be procured he would fix it next day.
The next day I heard nothing and began chasing them. Their convoluted webchat could tell me nothing as the job was with Further Works. Further Works said a quote was with the web chat people, who denied all knowledge. FW had clocked off by thus time even though their phone line told me to hold on. Next day (still -3 ), I phoned first thing. Apparently they had being trying to get a hold of me. Must have been hard as I was on the phone with them all afternoon. Apparently they would order me a new fan if I agreed the quote and it would take 5 days to turn up. I could stand no more of this and told them to swivel. I got another company who lubricated the fan and got it working again in 5 minutes. I am still £130 down for ERG call out fee.
This is the antithesis of service. I persevered with their webchat thing but an older person would have been lost. If the job requires another visit, these guys know nothing, no point to them at all. Their arrogance when I was upset that the desperately needed part had not been ordered and they had failed to communicate with me, was astounding.

Don't touch these guys

Don't touch these guys! No show engineers and terrible customer service! I've phoned 3 times to be told they only take bookings. I was advised to contact customer service on live webchat but they couldn't contact the engineer and now they're ignoring me. Can't even escalate a complaint!
Their website says they have Colwyn Bay local engineers and yet I have been waiting since 9.15 (it's now 18.31) for a gas engineer. We have no heating; my husband is 70 and we are freezing. They've taken card payment details for £175 + VAT per hour and nobody has had the decency to let us know what's happening or not. We still don't have an ETA and its friday evening. We have no heating!
