The unexpected same day response to the stairlift being non-responsive was brilliant. Unfortunately, some dirt was left on the stair carpet but Ellen contacted me to tell to arrange for it to be professionally cleaned.
She kept in contact with me and her response was second to none.
High Quality Stairlift at an Affordable Price
For anyone wanting a stairlift, you could do a lot worse than choosing a stairlift from Handicare. There is a connection to Age UK, and the company have a first class product and an excellent service process.
I was attracted to this particular product because the pictures didn’t show any moving parts, and sure enough the components consist of a rail and a seat. Apparently there are only three manufacturers of stairlifts in the country, Stannah, Acorn and Handicare, and after some research the Handicare product was deemed to be the best of the items on offer.
I contacted Handicare and made an appointment for their agent to come out, measure up, offer any advice and give me a price. The cost of the stairlift isn’t the cheapest, but in terms of quality it is a definite case of getting what you pay for.
Having agreed a price, a deposit was paid and a vague delivery time offered. Five to seven days isn’t an unreasonable expectation, as each stairlift is individually made, as obviously all staircases differ.
Having ordered it, a phone call confirmed that the stairlift would be delivered on a Thursday and installed on a Saturday (seven day turnaround). A fitter arrived at the appointed time and took only two hours to install it. Please note that the stairlift rail is attached to the stairs, not the wall, but still leaves an adequate space for anyone to walk up and down.
I then got some basic instructions on how to use the machine, and the fitter departed. The balance of the invoice was paid by me a couple of days later.
This stairlift is a Godsend, and allows me the freedom to get around the house as I used to be able to do. I am very impressed with the product and the quality. Very simple to use and a dry cloth keeps it clean.

A completely well organised project. We had three quotes Handicare were not the cheapest, but we were confident that they would deliver and fit the lift on time.
All packaging was removed and the work was done in a workmanship manner
Back up and cummunication with the sales office, engineers and delivery drivers was excellent.

Great overall experience
Great overall experience, easy to contact to request a visit to compile a quote. Very helpful and took care to understand what we needed. Placing the order was straight forward, I needed to wait until other work was completed in the house but it was not a problem, when I advised them I was ready for installation it was done quick and efficiently within three days. I would recommend Handicare Stair Lifts.
Making the choice for a new stair lift
Apart from a small logistics error causing delay in installation the process of estimate, survey and installation went smoothly. My choice was made by the interpersonal and technical skill of the surveyor and final satisfaction by the quality and performance of the system supplied. Communication and observation during the installation reinforce my confidence that I have made the best choice.
The engineers are always professional
The engineers are always professional, approachable, helpful, courteous, competent.Last night l had to call for assistance and Lewis called from East Kilbride to say he would be there within

(1) Safety issue: new stairlift stuck upstairs with stairs impassable*; (2) stairlift still not fixed 6 days later and parents stuck; (3) some are helpful and courteous, others not including sarcasm
Initial post 28 Jan: The stairlift, installed less than a week ago, is stuck at the top of the stairs, which are impassable as a consequence*. This is despite repeated attempts at resetting etc. A Handicare engineer has yet to attend and it is approaching 24 hours since Handicare were notified. This is despite my elderly parents being stuck upstairs. This should have been treated as an emergency.
Mum also informs me that after she first reported this to Handicare they left her on hold for around an hour. My brother had to phone on her behalf.
*I/carers have had to go on our tiptoes and squeeze ourselves past the chairlift as there is very little space. My parents obviously cannot do this. What if there were a fire?
Update 29 Jan
Various calls to Handicare. First one was not logged and so it appears the call handler did not send an email to the engineers stressing the urgency of the matter as promised.
A lovely service engineer eventually attended, Lewis/Louis. The chair needs a new motor. Spoke also to his senior engineer, David. When pushed on the urgency of the matter, he rudely suggested that Mum and Dad should use the faulty chair and asked why they could not swivel themselves off the chair (as the swivel function is faulty). I said this was the reason we had paid for the motorised swivel due to their mobility issues. He then said the chair would be prevented from further use, chair was moved downstairs.
I later phoned Handicare to see whether I could do anything further as I was worried about my parents being stuck upstairs. Spoke to Lisa who was rude and sarcastic. When I pointed out the call was being recorded per her company's policy, she became defensive and hung up on me.
Update 3 Feb. Brand new chair still not working - repairs due tomorrow. David attended the house on 30 Jan and discovered the replacement motor is faulty. Although Mum and Dad said he worked very hard to try to fix the chair, he rudely asked my Mum whether she is 80 years old (she's nowhere near). I myself worry that was a sarcastic comment aimed at her current reduced mobility.
Kris from the Resolutions Team is obviously trying his best, but I think it is the company that is letting him down.
Paid a huge sum for a stairlift just a…
Paid a huge sum for a stairlift just a couple years ago, been used about 6 or 7 times before my mum passed away recently. they said they'd remove for free but no buyback - which is disappointing but is what it is.
But when they came to remove it, wouldn't remove a top stair cover that they had fitted to make it work, and told me that we must have had a joiner for it and so not their problem.... clearly they fitted it not us - or they had to get a joiner in to make it work, not us!
To add insult to injury they then said the couldn't remove it as their policy is not to touch any decoration and he said the wooden frame is classed as decoration!?
I wouldn't go near this company again, went back on their word, tried to pull the wool over my eyes and whilst not contractual, showed absolutely no compassion whatsoever!?
Also - apparently their product is one of the only ones no 2nd hand buyers will buy
I'd suggest using a different provider
AVOID AVOID AVOID
I was initially impressed with the survey and the timescale of it being fitted was reasonable, I was advised at the time to take out a maintenance contract for 3 years, I did so although I found the cost was quite expensive, in that time the stairlift was serviced twice, when I called to enquire why the lift wasn't serviced for the 3rd time, I was told that I needed to call to arrange service rather than them scheduling it themselves. approaching the end of the 3 year contact, I had a call out of the blue offering a further 3 year contract at a reduced price if I took it out NOW, which I did, so I now had 4 years of service, I called once when the lift stopped working, the engineer said that one of the arms was faulty, he wrapped some tape around it and said the he would order a new one and that was the last I heard, despite my numerous calls for an update on the order, nothing happened.
I NEVER received a maintenance contract, apparently they sent it to a defunct email address which I would never have seen. To cut a long story short, I have had enough of not so Handicare and decided to get rid of the stairlift because I was so disappointed the the company, the customer care, the maintenance etc, the final straw was leading up to Christmas the lift stopped working, I called them out as a I needed to socialise over that period, the engineer came and said that the batteries needed changing although I hardly used the lift, a couple of weeks later I received an invoice for £80. I called Handicare to question why and at the same time told them i no longer wanted the lift and wanted a refund on the outstanding maintenance fee, only to be told that they don't give refunds, I told them that had I know that, I would not have taken out the contract, that wasn't mentioned when I renewed and I NEVER received a contract, the person that I spoke to said that they would speak to customer service and call me back, this was about 3 weeks ago and still no call back. I have now received a final reminder to pay the £80 with legal action if payment is not received within 7 days.

From the first phone call and enquiry to the surveyors visit and finally installation I could not fault their professionalism and proficiency. Friendly, knowledgeable and courteous. The stair lift is great and has improved my mum’s quality of life.
Excellent
Both the surveyor & installer were very polite, honest & efficient. We never felt under any pressure to buy or to make any quick decisions. A very positive experience all round.
