We booked an apartment in Nice in April 2024, and paid for everything. The first hint should have been the link and the texts, that said, the payment should happen immediately.
In 4th of July - 3 days before the Check-In -the worst case scenario happens: we got an cancellation without any explanation (of course they said, it wasn’t their fault - I doubted it)
The cancellation represents a major inconvenience, especially since the cancellation took place only 3 days before arrival and a comparable apartment cannot be found immediately. In addition, the flights are booked, paid for and cannot be canceled.
We are still waiting on the refund and are hoping, that the bank will be helpful - more than booking.com
Now we are seeing, that so many complaints in such a short time are presented on this site: Maybe a class action lawsuit would make sense?
Unfortunately, previous attempts at contact have failed. They did not respond to previous emails with inquiries from April 21, 2024 or phone calls on July 4th, 2024. When I tried to get help via Booking.com's customer service, I was only told that Booking.com also couldn't reach Hostenga by phone to clarify the conflict.
Since than the service from booking.com is useless.
We are very disappointed with Booking.com. The provider Hostenga has only been mentioned negatively in connection with Booking.com on various travel websites for at least six months and their experiences coincided with ours: lack of contact options/no answers, short-term cancellation without giving reasons, no offer of alternatives and missing refunded money. Since Booking.com has apparently been aware of this problem for a long time and the provider “Hostenga” is still being referred through the website, apparently without further checking the provider and the complaints.
We consider the seriousness and the planning security they promised to be verified Hotel/holiday apartment providers. Unfortunately, you cannot see this provider Hostenga in the provider information when searching for suitable apartments and this is a situation that is no longer acceptable, as there is a chance that other travelers will have similar negative experiences.
For this inconvenience they offered us a compensation about 60€ to find an alternative - 3 days before arrival in the travel Saison in Nice - what a joke! For classification: we paid around 1750€.

We are 4 days for the start of our family holiday and our apartment is suddenly cancelled by Hostenga without mentioning any valid reasons. This is so stressful!
Details, via Booking (nr: 4633924262), paid 2 months in advance the full amount to Hostenga Europe Ltd.
Booking.com is trying to help out with alternatives but nothing so far. Hostenga only provides the request to cancel and asks for banking details.
Be alert when you see "Hostenga" when booking a stay via any website. I wish I had read these reviews 2 months ago...

with extremely short notice, our accommodation in Annecy France was cancelled today, 4 days before arrival and only a couple of days following the final payment being made, which the company sent multiple messages about.
No explanation has been given by the company, and the number provided does not connect.
I have been told there will be 14-30 days before I get my payment back, but I am to provide various details for this to happen (which following reading reviews I am not keen to do!).
This booking was made via Booking.com, who has so far failed to provide support. From the history linked in other reivews, it is hard to believe the company is still hosted by the booking site.

Hostenga is a Scam
I experienced the same thing as others on this site. Booking dot com should be ashamed that they front the fraudulent Hostenga scammers.

Awful to deal with. I booked an apartment through Booking.com and soon after received an email saying to pay a deposit. I only had until midnight to pay or they would cancel my reservation. I tried to pay but the link wouldn’t work. I emailed them explaining the situation and continued to receive automated threatening emails saying ‘pay now’ or else they would cancel my reservation. After reading the other reviews about Hostenga it seems to be a scam company. I finally received an email from Hostenga last night saying they were aware that the link isn’t working and not to worry and that they would contact me as soon as it is fixed. I have just received another email from them saying they’ve noted that I still haven’t paid and they will cancel my reservation if not paid. Hostenga should be banned from Booking.com and sites alike as they are an anxiety-inducing fraud company.

Hosting cancelled nay booking without explanation and did not refund my money: €300!!! They do not have any working telephone number, and they do not reply on emails. The host of the house blocked my number! It is a scam!

If I could give zero stars I would! I booked through booking.com in october 23. Within minutes I received an email requiring a deposit of nearly 900nz$ be paid that day. There was a link to a payment page that didn't work. No reply when I told them this, however a barrage of 6 more emails in one day demanding payment. Eventually with the help of the French owner of the apartment (I think) I found a way to pay. Guess wha, the next communication was a final demand to pay. Eventually I received a confirmation in French that I had paid. No other communication. I tried booking.com messaging, direct email and phone. No response at all. I became convinced this was a scam and cancelled. This was a "free cancellation" booking but there has been no refund of my deposit. Booking.com customer service has been equally as useless. Confirmation number was 4165.538.364 just in case somebody is monitoring this.
My strong advice is to have no dealings with this company, they appear to be crooks.
Fraud - No contact possible
This Company seems to be a scam.
They debited my creditcard via an email they sent me. 8 minutes after confirming my payment they told me via email that my booking was cancelled. No chance to contact them. I made 25 phonecalls to the french téléphone number and to the one in the UK; in vain.
I contacted booking.com today via Phone and they told me that the appartement would be ready for us, but we will have to pay again, this time to the real owner of the property.
So we will leave for Nizza tomorrow and hope that everything will work out. Booking.com promised to refund the fraud money. We will see and hope for the best.
They do not answer
I had to cancel with them through Booking because my VISA card was not valid. They ask me for another one and I don't agree. How curious, my card is not valid but they do make the charge they demanded. I try to communicate with them and they do not respond. I inform Booking and they tell me that I have the right to return, but they do not respond to them either. I have started procedures with the Bank and to this day is what I can say about Hosttenga, that the only thing it has brought me are headaches.
update June 8, 2024. several of its apartments in France no longer work with Booking...it is starting to smell rotten
After much insistence on Booking and after fifteen business days, he finally received a refund confirmation.
It would have been easier to have contacted me sooner, but no, this is how this company works. I have gotten angry with them.

I do not understand how HOSTENGA EUROPE LTD can exist as a business. I've been trying to book an appartment for me and my children. The reservation was made and so i booked a flight, transfer and rentalcar. Next step: payment, from there on everithing went wrong. I am more than willing to pay the downpayment, so is my bank.
HOSTENGA EUROPE LTD had verrivied my creditcard several times. My bank confirmed that. My bank also said they replied back to HOSTENGA EUROPE LTD that all lights are green, everything checks out. But for some reason HOSTENGA EUROPE LTD keeps messaging me that i need to authenticate my card and they want me to klick on the enclosed link. The funny thing is...there is no link. I've tried to make contact by messaging back, calling, even calling with Booking.com. There is no reply from HOSTENGA what so ever, not even when Booking.com tried to make contact with them. They even canceled my booking. So i booked again...and the whole bad experience starts over again. Probably you don't want my money???
UPDATE: After calling Booking.com again today en discussing an inquiry, I suddenly received a message that things will be sorted out. So....I'll update this message when things are all oke or otherwise.
UPDATE 05-06-2024: ??? Yesterday I finally received a message wilt the (till yesterday missing) link for payment. So yesterday I have paid the whole sum for my stay. Guess what? This morning I received yet an other message from HOSTENGA: Last reminder...pay the downpayment now, or your reservation will be cancelled! I'VE ALREADY PAYED FOR THE WHOLE STAY!

I keep getting angry messages; Pay now or cancellation. I've paid,...I just want to go to this apartment with my two kids for 10 days. I made a reservation, paid for it.
The good news is: booking.com will start an investigation soon. Checking Hostenga and the way they do business.

HOSTENGA just cancelled our accommodation for no reason. I'm pretty stressed right now, if I'll get my money back. Don't bother trying to contact them. I have never received an answer on the numerous mails and messages I've sent them. Except the one that things would be sorted out. Even booking.com haven't been able to reach them. Don't book your accommodation with HOSTENGA!

This was to be paid the same day before MIDNIGHT or my booking was auto cancelled.
Anyway I wasn't sure if this was a scam because it wasn't on the property listing and booking.com customer support couldn't contact HOSTENGA EUROPE LTD by phone and neither could I, the phone rings and all the time GREAT!!! FOR EMERGENCIES YEAH.
