Avoid MEO

We don’t have internet and television service for roughly 1 week.

Meo is not fixing the issue or even scheduling a date for the repair.

Also if you want to contact their support service you have only one option: call their value added line and pay 20 cts/minute. Have spend hours on the line trying to get someone to schedule the repair. Not sure how this is legal.

We don’t need fast net or cheap prices or anything else special. We just need the internet service we pay for to work.

for get it !

We deeply regret choosing MEO. We have all our services with them — phone, internet, and TV including satellite — so switching is not easy.

From the start, we’ve had problems. Every month, extra charges appeared on our TV bill without any clear explanation. It takes forever to reach customer service. Eventually, we were told the card had been hacked and that money was being charged because of this. This is not our fault and shows poor security on MEO’s side. Still, we were not refunded because we didn’t complain in the same month.

We also had issues with the phone service. We received calls from the Netherlands that we did not answer, yet around €10 was charged. Getting access to call history was very difficult, and spam numbers are hard to block.

In short: more frustration than convenience. It has cost us money, time, and a lot of stress. We are staying for now because switching is complicated, but our patience is running out. Read other reviews before choosing MEO.

My Experience with MEO Energia


I thought it would be a good idea to sign up for MEO Energia since I already had MEO Internet. However, my experience turned out to be quite disappointing.
With EDP, I never had any issues—their customer service is efficient and genuinely helpful. With MEO Energia, on the other hand, customer service is only available in person to open a new contract. For anything else, you must call by phone. They tell you they’ll call back within 48 hours, but they never do. I had to call several times before someone finally got back to me.
When I moved from the 3rd to the 5th floor in the same building, I wanted to update the address on my contract. They told me it wasn’t possible and that I had to open a new one, so I did. Naturally, you’d think that activating service at a new address would automatically cancel the previous one—but no.
Later, they claimed that they had informed me I needed to cancel the old contract myself, which wasn’t true. In the end, their word carried more weight than mine, when it really should be the opposite—after all, companies survive thanks to their customers.
As a result, they didn’t refund the money I paid for the months when I was no longer living on the 3rd floor, blaming me for not cancelling in time. I’m honestly tired of companies that put profit before customers.
So, I’ve decided to go back to EDP. My advice: stay away from MEO Energia. This was my experience, and I thought it was important to share it.

actually scamming you

when my bill was higher then normal,
I discovered extra monthly charges I didn't know about or agree to that are really made up just so they can charge extra but give you nothing extra.
I was also charged for sending a text to India that I have never sent.
tried reaching them through the phone, ended up going physically to the store to ask for a better plan and to address the false charges, I complaint in the formal complaint book .
And was assured I would get a better offer for mobile bundle.
there costumer service did a scam where they would call me for one ring .
Even if I was holding my phone I could not answer .
they called me like the about 15 times just to show that they "tried" to call .
then they wrote to me that they tried to contact me and that they will not refund the false charges .
signed on for 2 years, of curse there is a fine for early exit of the contract my contract is ending now and they will never see me again.

Choose STARLINK!

Together with NOS, MEO is competing for the top spot in horrific service. Modems that light themselves on fire. Extremely convoluted service pathways. Employees who know NOTHING about networks, bandwidth etc. the actually said that their satellite internet (max 40mbps down & max 4 up) is a decent replacement for the fiber I had at my previous address. When asked how 3 family members streaming in high resulution would impact my work from home, all they could tell me is "it is possible". The service is vrap and the only way you get anything dkne is by loosing your shyte. I recommend anybody thinking of MEO for their internet to choose Starlink instead. Yes sattelite, but with extreme broadband speeds, it actually rivals my previous fibre connection. Custer service with them is also extremely good.

Terrible customer service at this MEO…

Terrible customer service at this MEO location. Staff only seem capable of handling basic billing issues. When it comes to technical troubleshooting, they are unhelpful and poorly informed.

We have been waiting for our service to be installed since November 17, and since arriving we have had no internet or cable service at all. When we asked at the Horta office for temporary access to cable, we were told it was “not allowed.”

We were forced to escalate the situation with head office in Lisbon, who eventually provided us with a router so we could at least watch the news as Christmas approaches. This entire situation, combined with the staff’s dismissive attitude, is completely unacceptable.

Impossible to renegotiate or even communicate in writing if you live abroad

I am a long-standing MEO customer and contacted them to request a review of my internet tariff. I did not ask for a price match with competitors — only whether any cheaper option or adjustment was available, ideally with annual payment.

I live abroad and clearly explained that I cannot visit a store or handle repeated phone calls, and therefore need written communication (email).

Despite multiple formal complaints submitted through the Livro de Reclamações Eletrónico, MEO repeatedly refused to communicate in writing and systematically redirected me to phone numbers or physical stores. Even after escalation and regulatory involvement, their final position was that tariff renegotiation cannot be done in writing, regardless of the customer’s situation.

As a non-resident customer, this effectively prevents you from exercising your consumer rights. The process was time-consuming, frustrating, and unnecessarily rigid.

If you live abroad or expect clear, written communication, be aware that MEO may simply refuse to engage.

Save your nerves and forget about a MEO.

This can be a long story but let's put just the high light here:
- Internet (4G) took 13 times tries before installation was ok.
- If you have any problems, you need to go to shop. Then they ask what time it is ok to call you back. Then some one calls and puts you hold for 45min
- After 45min, you are connected to some one who speaks english what ever menu option during the call ask if you want english speaking service. This happened 15 times.
- Router broke, it took weeks to get new one. Except I never got it because it was returned to MEO.
- Luckily my internet is fast and reliable now- I changed it to Starlink.

It is amazing that in a western Europe, in a year 2025, can exist a company with this bad services.

They'll never leave you alone

They refuse to end the service, took me months to finally replace it with Vodafone and after I finally did they've been spam calling me every day.

Misguided perception of what is required

This company believes it has helped sufficiently it's customer with a clear description of the problem with following answer:
"Thank you for your contact
Following your request, we inform you that if you are unable to activate extra internet through the customer area, you can send a free SMS with the text NET to 12388.
Regarding the deactivation of the card, simply stop using it and stop topping it up, and the card will deactivate automatically.

Yes, you can use hieroglyphical SMS probably, I am not familiar with this. What is the customer account good for if not for topping up prepaids?

My only advice is to avoid this company at all costs.
they caused serious legal issues. they sued me for not paying 3 months of mobile internet package, i was trying to pay regularly on monthly basis my bill, however their app seems not operational for online payments. i reach out hundred times to their CS team to solve the issue , never replied me . that caused an accumulated 3 unpaid amount, as i was outside portugal, i couldn’t visit their commercial stores , until i started receiving emails from a legal part that informing me to pay fines € bills which i did not use . as they terminated the contract right after 3 months of unpaid bills.

TRYING TO CANCEL A CONTRACT

Having a hard time canceling a contract.
The company does not provide any confirmation of the calls made and the cancelation request.
Latelly all the calls have been put in never answered waiting line after telling the agents the reason of the call (30+minutes).

MEO customer care??

We live in Estoril. For 2 year the MEO beam not impregnated knocked down. Although marked, still not resolved.
Further 2 times a day no WIFI (average)
I am from Holland, we don’t know these kind of situation. Here in Portugal it seems all acceptable.
Does this company have management? Please provide me the e-mailadres.
We already logged an official complaint 2 that the beam is broken. We had guys in our street after the storm. You guys don’t care it seems. Only collecting money.
If you’re serious you send me an email for an appointment and fix it. It seems hardly anyone is happy with you guys.

A company of small-time crooks

A company of small-time crooks. I signed a contract for internet and two mobile phones for €60 per month. After a couple of months, I had to change my address, but I didn’t want to change the service, so I re-signed the contract at the new address — and they increased the price by €9, adding services I never asked for. Later, they removed some of those services, but the price still stayed higher than the original, and now I’m paying €65. The support team and the sales office staff are poorly qualified. I do not recommend this operator.

It is not coincidental that MEO have so…

It is not coincidental that MEO have so many 1 star reviews. Their customer support is disgraceful.
First, they only work with 24 month contracts, when your contract ends, they don't tell you anything, they just add up late fees to it.
Do you want to renew your service? Commit to another 24 months. So basically it is a lifetime contract with 24 month exit points.

I called them several times and was put on hold for hours with no agent ever picking up the phone. This is their penal colony for clients that want to renegotiate the terms. Eventually you give up and just let them win.

Whatever company that does no-contract plans is going to lead the market, and people will remember the treatment they got from MEO.

Stay away from MEO Service- Impossible to Cancel a Contract

I canceled a tv/internet package online since September 2025, and returned all the equipment to a Meo Loja, due to leaving Portugal the next day. Till this day they continue to give me a hard time with getting this service canceled properly and asking for ridiculous documents about proving i left Portugal- including a job offer, a residency certificate a lease you name it for new country. When did it get this difficult to get out of an internet contract- this is so embarrassing for a company of this size. I keep getting charged as if I still live in PT and have the equipment when they already have it. Steer clear people- horrible customer service, greedy people who just want to get as much money as possible from foreigners. What a horrible look for Portugal, hence why i left. Nightmare..

Their customer service is very poor and racist behavior. I received a call from at 20 ( 6.11.2025) regarding changing my package to other company. The way they talked with me was completely unacceptable and unprofessional. During our conversation the man talked about my nationality, wish me luck to live in Portugal , enjoy my time !!!!! What kind of conversation!!!!!! I’m terminating their service , that’s why they did racist manner with me !!! It’s really disgusting way to talk with a client who has using their service for 3 years. Very unprofessional customer service. My nationally is not related to this conversation from customer service. So I understand that they got angry because i terminated their service and it’s totally unacceptable from a renowned company like meo. Please hire good people who is not racist and don’t talk unrelated topics those are not related to services .

Worst customer service experience of my…

Worst customer service experience of my life. I spent two days of my life cancelling a phone number I had on my account because you have to do it over the phone- NOT EVEN IN PERSON — and even though I did— I am STILL being charged today.

This company treats their staff like garbage and the only care about money. Nothing else.
