Con merchants

I'd give them no stars if possible, absolute con merchants, had to take to ombudsman, but still out of pocket, as apparently as I didnt die my claim isnt valid, taken months to sort what was a simple genuine claim, never claimed off of any insurance in my life, so found this whole experience upsetting. Avoid.

I had a very disappointing experience…

I had a very disappointing experience with Planet Earth Travel Insurance. The policy sounded good at the time of purchase, but when I actually needed support, things went wrong. Communication was slow and unclear, and important issues were not properly addressed. What was promised upfront did not match the service I received. I’m sharing this so others can make an informed decision and avoid the same frustration.

I'm extremely disappointed with this company. I submitted a claim on 21st November and heard nothing. Chased on 16th December still nothing. No acknowledgement even. Just nothing.

We are sorry to learn that you are unhappy with your claim experience. In line with most travel insurers, the travel delay benefit is only paid after the first 12 hours of delay on both the outbound and inbound sector of the trip. Under Financial Conduct Regulations we provide each customer with an Insurance Product Information Documents (IPIDs). These are really useful to read as they provide a precis of the main policy wording and highlight all the main areas of cover. IPID's can help to make sure that the policy you’re choosing is right for you.

Absolutely appalling so far

Absolutely appalling so far. I put in a claim when I returned from holiday on the 9th sept. I was advised when I submitted it I would hear with 5 days. I sent a further email on the 27th September as I hadn’t heard anything and couldn’t get hold of anyone. We are now the 5th October and I still guess what?, have heard nothing. I’m at least £800 down which I cannot afford and they haven’t even acknowledged me!!!

Amazing and Outstanding Service!

After a wealth of searching for annual travel insurance, to accommodate my holiday abroad for over 35 days plus. I was fortunate enough to come across this company online.
I can not sing Planet Earth's praises enough, from the outset of calling them, to fine tuning my policy and purchasing it!

Sadly I had to curtail my time away, due to personal circumstances. I contacted Planet Earth to explain this and was sent a claims form which was very straightforward and easily completed.
The whole claims process from beginning to end, was completed in approximately 4-5 weeks, an extremely quick turnaround and hassle free!

I would highly recommend them and their prices are very competitive too, which is also another added *bonus*!!🤗
Thank you very much Planet Earth for making this so smooth and easy. I will definitely be using you again in the coming future.......I'm a very happy and satisfied customer!!! 🩷

I'd give them negative stars if I…

I'd give them negative stars if I could, I put in a claim for a family member who was taken ill and received hospital treatment over a week ago and I haven't heard anything from them. Don't let fob you off with saying Ergo the underwriter are handling the case because while I was aboard dealing with everything I didn't have any correspondence or guidance/support from them either.
Also they sought personal details from a third party without consent. Their policies are not worth the paper they are written on when they are breaking their own data handling procedures. My advice would be use a bigger brand/household name you might pay a bit more but at least your information will be safe.

May help when abroad.

When ill in Cyprus I was admitted to hospital and May Day, the company used by Planet Earth to handle claims and help whilst abroad were excellent. They handled all paper work and dealt directly with the hospital while I was still in there. All I had to pay was my £75 excess. They contacted me when I came out of hospital to see whether I was now OK. really impressed with their service.

Terrible claims service

Terrible claims service. My 84 year old mother was struck down with covid days before going to USA. She had paid £2250 for the trip which would have been the claim amount. However our son/her grandson was coming to join us a week later. Having recovered she was fit to travel but the only way was for him to get her on the same flight as them as she couldn't travel on her own at her age.Unfortunately, at such short notice this expensive but with trips to niagara falls, the grand canyon and Las Vegas it was the last chance of a lifetime. She throughly enjoyed her trip and then we claimed for the missed holiday time and the cost of getting her there. The claims process was slow and painful and eventually the said they wouldnt pay for the flight to get her there and paid out for the week missed. I pointed out that they would have been looking at a much bigger claim if she hadn't gone and in the circumstances what else could we do They showed a total lack of understanding or compassion and refused to pay out more

Avoid - Haven't paid up 4 months after submitting claim

I bitterly regret taking out travel insurance with Planet Earth as 4 months after submitting a claim for medical expenses they still haven't paid up.
Furthermore communication with them and their agents is impossible.
As previous reviewer said you have to deal with an outfit called ETI services. We completed and sent off all the required claim forms. ETI Services acknowledged these and stated they had been sent to a cost containment agency but have refused to give us their contact details so I feel helpless.
I hold Planet Earth responsible as we paid our insurance premium to them but they have not given us any help since submitting the claim.

We are sorry if you have experienced any delay in having your claim settled. It is important that policyholders contact the 24 hr Medical Assistance company if they have a medical emergency overseas. This allows the assistance company to step in and liaise with the hospitals and guarantee payments directly. Any cost containment can then be dealt with by the assistance company. We have spoken with the Claims Department in an effort to get your claim expedited.

We have investigated this and have been told that your claim was first registered on the 20th July and that the claims office first contacted you on the 25th July and also sent an email to you on the 17th August requesting additional information.

Avoid using Planet Earth

Absolutely useless ,hide behind impossible terms and conditions and the actual contract I have is with Money Supermarket as they took the premium.

They make it so difficult to make a claim and have to deal with an amateurish bunch called ETI travel services who are totally unhelpful and refuse to issue a Final Response Letter so I can take the matter to the Financial Ombudsman Service.

I have now been in contact with the FOS and they told me to just wait the 8 weeks and then they will take on my case, regardless of a FRL or not.

Response to Planet Earth 14/9

There is the problem right there ,you don’t give any contact details whatsoever and confirm my concerns that you make it as difficult as possible to make a claim and so backwards to only have a PO Box number to request a FRL
Anyone that takes out your insurance is sadly in my opinion very unwise.

Unbelievable Amazing Incredible

I had to cancel at the last minute a holiday to Tuscany because of a leg injury. I completed the claim form on the Monday with appropriate paperwork. Two days later I was emailed by Planet Earth to say my claim had been accepted in full, less £13 admin fee. The following day the money was in my account.

Left a solo female traveller abandoned after lying about making arrangements once discharged from hospital

You should seriously consider reading this before using this company. They put my health at risk. If I could give less than 1 star I would. I fell severely ill on holiday in Thailand, I was in hospital for 4 days, I was weak and unable to communicate coherently. My friend who I met on the trip took charge and got in contact with Planet Earth to let them know the situation, after days of back and forth the verdict was that Planet Earth were unable to pay my hospital bill due to their agent in Thailand not being accepted by the hospital as previously they had failed to pay. Not our issue. We continued to call Planet Earth to find a resolution, eventually after the continued pressure they found a way to settle the bill. Nothing about this process was smooth or took any pressure of of us, it delayed my healing and caused me significant stress. I am a solo female traveller and if it wasn't for my friend I had met and their resilience I would have been left with a £5000 hospital bill as they were reluctant to help at all. After being in the hospital my after care advice was to rest, avoid the heat and only eat bland foods, I was also given 3 days worth of medication to keep my virus at bay and allow me to travel home. Following hospital advice I started to make arrangements to fly home and discontinue my tour which was going to consist of strenuous activity. Planet Earth once again reassured me they would sort out a return flight and also transport to and from airports, it was also stated on my discharge letter which was only issued so that I could fly home that I would also require wheelchair access, Planet Earth said they would also sort this in the airport. Planet Earth were aware that if I wanted to travel with my group back to the mainland I had to be on a specific ferry so that I had assistance with my bags, it was also the last ferry of the day and it was included in my tour and wouldn't require extra expense, you would think Planet Earth would be appreciative of me trying to keep costs to a minimum. However despite assuring me and my friend over the phone arrangements would be made they allowed me to board the ferry and assured us that by the time we reached land they would have flight and travel arrangements made. We called to chase whilst on the ferry at which point they told us because I had now been discharged I was clearly fit to travel and could continue with my tour, going against direct Dr's orders. This company waited until I had boarded a ferry, knowing I had no way of returning to the hospital that day, and then refused to make any travel arrangements after assuring they would be in place by the time we got to port, they left a sick, weak and solo female traveller abandoned in Thailand after lying for days that arrangements were being processed. This was extremely tactical. The amount of stress and panic this company caused is unforgiveable. I am in the process of making a claim and also seeking legal advice due to the negligence of Planet Earth. I was alone, scared and ill 14 hours away from home, the entire process was made worse by this excuse of a company, who did the opposite of help but only caused further stress and anxiety. You should be ashamed of yourselves.

05/06 I don’t wish to contact you at this point whilst I am going through the claim process to rectify your misdoing.

Superb company, highly recommended.

Superb company, helpful staff, realistic prices. I had an accident in Spain in the summer which necessitated an operation to replace hip. After the initial operation, the insurance company via May Day took over my care. They were superb! I was transferred to a private clinic, with excellent nursing, spotlessly clean, good food and lots of physio. A paramedic was sent to accompany me and my husband home, he could not have been kinder. The insurers paid our claim for expenses within a couple of weeks with no problems at all. Not an experience I would like to repeat but the Mayday repatriation team were superb throughout. I am forever grateful I had good insurance and would not hesitate to recommend Planet Earth.

Dear Mr White,
We are sorry to learn that you were the victim of a robbery whilst abroad. We regret that our underwriters were unable to settle your claim for the phones and charger as you were unable to provide them with proof of ownership. They did settle the claim for the loss of passport. Unfortunately, the amount of cash you had stolen fell well below the policy excess of £75.00.

Medical Conditions

Since taking out our annual holiday policy by telephone on 5 July 2022 my husband has been prescribed a Statin & when I phoned Planet Earth to inform them I was told by Ken that the only condition I had declared for my husband was high blood pressure...my husband also takes Osteoarthritis & Thyroid medication and there is no way I wouldn't have declared this if I had been asked "does your husband take any other medication for other conditions" when taking out the policy....having already paid £241.97 there is now an additional premium of £38.40 but it's not the cost of the policy or premium that has led me to make this review but the fact we had paid £241.97 for a policy and that we have already been on holiday in September and now to discover my husband wasn't covered for these medical conditions so beware how you're being asked questions about medical conditions when taking out a policy with this company

Dear Mrs Hand, We are sorry to learn that you were disappointed with our service when calling our office yesterday.
It is important that all pre-existing medical conditions are declared when purchasing travel insurance.
The policy wording and insurance product information document both state that pre-existing medical conditions are excluded unless declared and accepted for cover in writing.
