The campervan was perfect, fast pick up and drop off, clear info, no hidden costs. This was our first time with a campervan and it's been a great experience.

Great experience. Happy with camper. Staff were fabulous. Glad I took the full insurance as a stone chipped and cracked my windscreen on first day.

We wouldn’t even give Apollo one star and certainly will never use Apollo again or recommend Apollo to anyone else.
We booked a Hitop Camper on 14/3/2026 for pick up on 3/7/2026. We booked our camping holiday to Kakadu, Katherine Gorge and Litchfield National Park for a small campervan. Before our trip we received lots of emails and information about the Hitop Camper and checked in online on 20/6/2026.
On Friday 3/7/2026 we woke at 3.30 am to fly from Canberra to Darwin via Brisbane. We arrived at Apollo’s premises in Darwin at about 2.30 pm expecting to collect our Hitop Camper and be on our way for a much needed meal and to do the shopping for our trip. After a lengthy introduction and explanation process we were asked to wait outside the building for our Hitop Camper to be collected and bought to us. After quite a long time, what appeared was not a Hitop Camper, but some dodgy looking motor home. We said this was not what we had booked and paid for and did not want it because it was too big for us to be confident driving and might not fit into some of the camp sites we had booked. We were told that the Hitop Camper we were supposed to get was damaged and needed to be repaired and this could only happen three days later - on Monday at the earliest.
We did not feel we could wait as we had camp sites and activities booked on the Saturday and Sunday and there was no guarantee that a Hightop Camper would be available on the Monday.
After a lengthy discussions with the staff at Apollo we agreed to take the only other camper van available which was a 4x4 Toyota Hilux camper, in spite of the fact that this was not what we wanted. We were then told we had to pay an extra $1,800 for this vehicle.
Eventually at about 5.30 pm the 4x4 Toyota Hilux camper was ready and we left Apollo. During the 3 hours we waited at Apollo stressing about what was going to happen we were ignored and actually had to go and explain to the staff that we’d left Canberra at 3.30 am and needed something to eat and drink and be on our way to do our shopping.
We are also really upset that we did not get the camper van we had booked and paid for and planned our trip around and were made to pay an extra $1,800 for something we did not want or need. We did not find this vehicle comfortable and never went off sealed roads.

On pickup, we start the motor and overdue service warning appears. Dismissed by Apollo staff as „ oh they couldn’t reset it, don’t worry „
Day 2 urgent coolant warning comes on. Handbrake won’t disengage. Mechanic comes out after 1.5 hours. Says don’t use handbrake again. I didn’t.
Day 3 off grid (reason why I hired one with shower) hot water not heating. More calls to roadside assistance. Tried everything, fuses, water level, gas on etc. No luck. Some electrical problems with the gas hot water ignition for the water heater.
Forced to stay in caravan park to get plugged in and hot water.
Next time I turn on motor- engine warning light comes on. I have 800km before me to get home. More calls. Told by roadside assistance to ignore it. If I lose engine power call back. Very stressful trip back with engine light on the whole time. Never again!

Everyone we dealt with were just great! Did appreciate that.
However,..,we’ve discovered we’re just not campervan people.

Pick up and drop off of motorhome very smooth….vehicle went well except for flat tyre….the wheel lugs were so tightly on that it was impossible to for me to get the wheel off to change it for the spare….but for some help from a person who had specialist gear I would not have been able to change the tyre….the motorhome could do with a portable step 2 tea towells not one and much better pillows…..overall though a great experience

I booked apollo but got Maui Cascade in which the satellite map fitted was not properly working and managed with own mobile navigation,

From the moment we arrived, the team welcomed us with genuine friendliness and manaakitanga. The handover was clear, relaxed and easy to follow, with step-by-step instructions that gave us the confidence to head off on our first camping journey.
As first-time campers, we naturally had lots of questions, but nothing ever felt like too much trouble. The campervan was comfortable, well-equipped and became our home away from home for the weekend.
Travelling together as a whānau created memories we'll treasure forever. Watching our tamariki enjoy every moment from choosing their beds to exploring Rotorua made this experience even more special.

Ka nui te mihi ki a koutou. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend Maui to anyone wanting to experience the freedom of travelling Aotearoa in a motorhome.

The campervan was fully self-sufficient, and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The pickup experience was hassle-free, and we were provided with clear, helpful information, making the entire process smooth and enjoyable.

We had a lovely holiday just following our nose and staying at the most gorgeous locations.

Freedom to travel where we want! The van was great however the brakes weren't great and by the end of the 5 day trip they sounded terrible. Plus the awning blew open twice while driving on the main road!

PIUCKUP WAS GREAT AND EASY. I WOULD LOVE TO TAKE VEHICLE AGAIN

Will hit you with payment fees not in the rental price. If you don’t get their insurance they’ll sting you for $7,500 deposit. Fuel cover fell off mid driving, main cabin light only worked 50% of the time. One of the gas elements in the stove didn’t work properly. And a few other things that were just inconvenient. Left totally unsatisfied and will not use Apollo again.

Overall was a fairly good experience with booking and Apollo personnel in general.

However, the LDV van was very noisy, cruise control would cut out intermittently and we had a concern coming back to Perth at dusk when the motor went into limp mode it almost stalled with no power.

This problem went on for at least 2 hours before coming good and returned the next day.
