Continual pop-ups interrupting work…

Continual pop-ups interrupting work flow (it's popping up right now!! Random withdrawals from my bank acct for renewals with no notice, just poof gone. Hate 'em!
The driver updates popped up (6 of them) and apparently one of the drivers was corrupted (thanks Avast) also charged $86 don’t know what for. I now have the blue screen of death. Whatever happened, it kicked Microsoft completely off. Computer is with tech repair now.

Impossible to uninstall + nonstop pop‑ups

Avast refuses to uninstall and constantly spams pop‑ups even when you disable notifications. The uninstaller freezes, Windows can’t remove it, and the only “solution” is downloading their own removal tool — which I’m not doing again.

No antivirus should behave this aggressively. The experience feels intrusive, frustrating, and borderline deceptive. Zero stars.

Many red flags.

My security setup is based on a clear separation of responsibilities between software solutions dedicated to Security, Performance, and Privacy. For a long time, this configuration functioned correctly. However, serious issues began to arise when Avast started interfering with software outside its intended scope.

The first significant problem occurred in relation to my VPN service. Avast repeatedly forced the VPN to restart, and all attempts to install required security certificates failed. This behaviour caused instability and raised serious concerns about software compatibility and reliability.

Following this, I replaced my hardware for practical reasons. After installing a fresh operating system and applying all updates on the new device, I performed an initial Avast scan. The software reported outdated drivers and more than 300 corrupted registry entries on a brand-new system, strongly suggesting additional paid subscriptions as the solution. These claims were misleading and unfounded, which led me to disable automatic renewal of my subscription.

The most serious incident occurred during an unexpected business trip abroad. Despite using a reliable VPN service that I have trusted for years, my physical location was exposed, resulting in blocked access to legally available streaming content. After consulting my VPN provider, I was informed that Avast was responsible for the location leak.

As a result, I was unable to access content I was entitled to view, representing a clear loss of service value and a critical failure in privacy protection.

While pop-up notifications and exaggerated threat alerts can be ignored, the combination of aggressive marketing practices, misleading diagnostics, and interference with third-party security software cannot. These issues have caused a complete loss of trust in Avast products.

Every day I get two or more pop-ups from them trying to sell me something. I have tried everything to stop the pop-ups. I even purchased a subscription. But they continue. I'm fed up. I'm closing down and switching to another anti-virus program.

Your response reinforces my decision to drop you. Thank you.

Avast trickery at its best.

Avast has been a thorn in my thigh for a very long time.

1. The Google Extension for Avast does not work. It makes most of the sites I visit inoperable. However, when I disable the Google Extension, Avast shows a pop-up on my screen (regardless of what I am doing) over 12 times a day, prompting me to re-enable the Avast Google Extension. It's a no-win situation. After researching the problem, I am told to whitelist the websites I visit. The problem is that 95% of the websites I visit (that I don't because of the extension) are new ones I've never visited before and don't plan to visit again. As you can see, this would be ridiculous and unsustainable to keep whitelisting websites just to get the Avast Google Extension to work.

2. My other beef with Avast is that Avast keeps trying to get me to buy products that I already own. It does this by warning that there is something wrong with my computer. This is trickery at its best.

I will be ending my subscription very soon.

UPDATE: I received a response from Avast saying they wanted "to better understand" my problem. Their response asked only for more information about my personal identity — nothing about actually resolving the Chrome extension issue. To make matters worse, Avast provided no way for me to submit a screenshot of the problems I was experiencing with the extension, which would have been the most direct way to illustrate the issue.
As for Trustpilot, they threatened to remove my review if I didn't respond. As you can see, this is a genuine, well-thought-out review — I don't write these lightly. If Trustpilot removes reviews simply because a business doesn't like them, then Trustpilot itself can no longer be trusted. A bit ironic, I know. I have a feeling I'm writing this for my own peace of mind, as it may never see the light of day given Trustpilot's apparent favoritism toward businesses over reviewers.

I've updated this to two stars because their response about pop-ups has been resolved (so far)

Apparently I had auto renew enabled…

Apparently I had auto renew enabled that I was unaware of, so when I could see that £79.99 had been taken out of my account, I started a complaint with Avast, asking for a refund (which is far easier than it sounds, or should be), which was the same day the money came out of my account and therefore well within the 30 day cooling off period. However, I NEVER EVEN HAD A RESPONSE, and it's impossible to speak to anyone, send an email, or even have an online chat. The Customer Service is not just appalling, it's non-existent. There are CONSTANT infuriating pop-ups, asking you to buy more and more products from them. I eventually rang my bank and put a stop on any further payments going out to them and I would therefore avoid these like the plague!!

HORRIBLE!

I have no proof that this app actually works. I keep exiting out of the annoying as hell pop-up given to me saying "Hold on! You haven't added Avast to your google browser" And proceeds to take me to my school account which I CANNOT DOWNLOAD APPS ON. There needs to be a button that disables that pop-up or disqualifies a certain account from downloading Avast

Good, but very expensive

As so far my computer remained protected from all nowadays threats, I consider this antivirus good, strong and reliable. Unfortunately the whole package is split in smaller pieces, each of them pricey, and making the total cost too expensive. I would prefer to pay for only one computer, instead of ten, and to pay a single price for the entire package. Avast would become more honest, transparent, and customer oriented. I would be as well happy to have less pop-ups and warnings about what I am expose to, if not paying one of the parts of the software.

Not working and customer service doesn't exist with these guys

Paid for subscription 1st time around year and a half ago, 1st it was working fine, but after months i started getting millions of pop ups from avast. I went to check the status of my subscription online and saw "0 devices are using my subscription" i am paying for?? Tried contacting their customer service 2x and every time they hit ne with their useless no reply email where they navigate you to the same area. Useless or more likely non existen customer service replaced by auto replies. Please do not bother paying anything to these guys, uninstall and go with any decent VPN if you can.

Reliable provider...deceptive practices

I have been with Avast for over a year. I just dumped all my subscriptions with over 9 months remaining. Their products are very good, but you have to carefully monitor your subscriptions. They regularly solicit renewals through pop-ups, and solicit subscriptions that result in duplicate subscriptions. They pound you with pop-ups. Their customer service is through AI chat bots, so you will labor greatly to talk to a human person. If you can deal with all that, jump in.

My Experience with Avast Antivirus

I've been using Avast Free Antivirus for about a year now. I appreciate how it consistently keeps my computer protected from malware and viruses without being too noticeable. The interface is user-friendly, and I haven't experienced any significant performance issues. However, I sometimes find the occasional pop-up for premium features a bit distracting. I'd love to see more options for customizing the notifications or perhaps a more streamlined way to upgrade if I decide to do so.
