Works but popups are horrible

Avast seems to work great as Antivirus and VPN. It would get 5 stars if it just did that. I really hate the intrusive pop ups. Once I tell it to skip something I cant tell it to skip it forever; for example, I don't care and never will care that my desktop notifications might be visible to others. It should work in the background and stay out of my face. I hate the scans that find problems you have to pay more to fix. I bought the antivirus and VPN so stop with the in my face advertising. If I had the time to shop for something that works invisibly I would get that instead

Billing issues and Cancellation....make sure you ask about any other programs you may or may not know about

So. On 22 April 2026, I cancelled my AVAST Cleanup for Mac. What they didn't tell me was that I had another subscription (that I didn't approve) for AVAST Breach Guard. (I had another program for that.) You can imagine my surprise when I got billed today for the Breach Guard. The woman I spoke to said that when I cancelled the subscription in April, I should have been told about the other subscription. Then she told me that I would receive an email with the cancellation notification. I told her I didn't get an email the last time. Lo and behold, when I told her that I hadn't received an email even after verifying my email address, she was forced to give me the reference number (that I already had from my 'contact us' post). I cancelled them after not even 1 year because I had so many issues on my Mac after downloading the cleaner. When I went to uninstall, it took me weeks to get all the files off the computer. Too many pop-ups, probably charges that were unnecessary (and maybe illegal), and a poor product (at least for me). Not to mention the 'failure' to tell me about this other program that I was unaware of and paying for. Buyer beware!

Due to the economy

Due to the economy, pop up adds, from your company that slow down your work can have a negative effect. We appreciate your company, and nothing is free, but back off just a little until we get our finances in order.

Great

Avast is amazing does a Great Job at protecting you from pretty much every Online type Attack and iv never had an issue with it.

The only Reason i wouldn't give it 5 Star's is because the pop ups are annoying and non stop.

A rip off and intrusive

I bought this anti virus software 5 months ago and thought that was it. However, it constantly sends pop ups telling me i should upgrade to this or that. A real pain. I still have 8 months of this anti virus contract. But sacked it. Completely removed it from my pc. Frankly if I get a virus I will just reinstall my computer. Its so much easier and windows defender seems to do as good. Not what these anti virus companies would like to hear I am sure. Up to you but try not paying lots of money because they say you need them. Frankly, after 3 months I still don't have a virus. What does that tell you.

Avast is a great product offered for free, with of course reduced features. Only downside is the frequent and relentless pop-ups and Warnings! that you are still vulnerable for those various things not included in the free version ...

Sick and tired of Avast scare pop ups

Sick and tired of Avast scare pop ups, I've recently invested in pro security because it kept alerting me about documents being exposed. And now I'm still getting scare pop ups relating to my P.C.
Trust me, I don't do anything dodgy to need to worry but Avast seems to think I'm exposed to everything and then tells me my pc is protected.
What is it Avast ?
Is the computer protected or are you just scam scaring your customers ?

The biggest threat to my laptop's security is...

The biggest threat to my laptop's security is... Avast!

I made the mistake of buying this piece of software to keep my laptop free of nuisance pop-ups, virus threats and the like. It was a decent desal and was simple to install. What I did not reckon on was the CONSTANT attempts to get me to upgrade my purchase to the so-called 'Premium' version. The odd pop-up I can cope with, but when it comes to a BARRAGE OF FAKE THREAT ALERTS, all warning of dire consequences if you don't buy the all-singing, all-dancing version of the programme imminent disaster will befall you, then I get really pissed!

The charade is clearly designed to get you to panic-buy what is probably what they should have sold you in the first place. You can't easily get rid of the alerts, either. No sooner do you close one than another appears,. You close that and another appears. You close that... and so on, ad infinitum. THE SOLUTION IS SIMPLE! Close down and restart your machine. That tends to do the trick. If it doesn't, do what I have done and uninstall the utter load of rubbish and swallow the con, I mean cost...

In short, if you install Avast One, be prepared to be bullied into buying the upgrade by way of sneaky, underhand and insidious scare tactics. DO NOT FALL FOR IT! Better still, steer clear altogether. You'll save yourself a great deal of stress and aggravation.

They stole money from an expired credit card.

Used this for a while but then the pop ups and aggressive marketing to upgrade got too much. So I cancelled it.
Only to find come renewal time that they somehow managed to take a full years subscription from my EXPIRED credit card without my permission. When I contacted them to have this refunded I was messed about and told initially I could have a 10% refund, then 30% refund. I had to quote their pledge to refund in full for any reason if customer is not happy within 30 days of purchase. It was 2 days after they stole the money from my EXPIRED card. I then threatened them with legal proceedings and was immediately given a full refund. NOT A TRUSTWORTHY COMPANY. HOW THE HELL HAVE THEY TAKEN MONEY FROM AN EXPIRED CREDIT CARD. And although I cannot prove it is them, I have had umpteen scam calls and emails bombarding me since I called them. How coincidental eh?

It's quite reliable

It's quite reliable; when a page has misleading advertising or pop-ups, it detects it instantly and protects your devices. I use to work with emails and links that may be not safe, so its perfect to me this service/product.

Avast NO WORKS.

The computer has been running much slower lately.

It keeps recommending programs and displaying annoying pop-up screens for applications that should already be integrated into the antivirus software.

There are also programs that stop working properly even before the license expires, despite not even offering a renewal option. It feels as though they deliberately restrict functionality just because you haven't renewed yet.

Ah, and the messages are displayed in Catalan, even though this is Spain.

1) stolen personal information is at risk of being sold
2) Your online account privacy settings might be at risk
3) Your private details may have been exposed in a data leak
4) Your stolen personal data could be circulating on the dark web etc etc.

even a 1 star is too generous a ranking for this app

I am only giving this godforsaken app a 1/5 because I cannot give it a 0. Even that would be too generous. The app fearmongers you from the very beginning. It uses pop up notifications saying 'critical security: webcam unsecured, weak passwords, etc.,' or some bullshit like that which isn't actually an immediate issue, but it is designed to make you stress. This persuades you to download their premium subscriptions. I imagine this works wonders for the app regarding more vulnerable customers (the elderly, anxious people etc.) who are more likely to fall for this nonsense and spend their money. I accidentally downloaded the wrong subscription, decided I had no reason to keep it or even to purchase the correct one, and therefore sought out a refund. Never in my life have I encountered such a terrible customer service webpage. God forbid you want to get a refund the day after purchasing (WELL within the 30-day refund policy). No no, you must of course be redirected to 12 different web pages, all with the exact same shit layout. Once you finally reach the refund page, you are directed to an AI chatbot. The worst AI chatbot, I wholeheartedly believe, that has ever been created. After the bot sends you exactly one unhelpful message and then promptly disconnects itself, the chat then claims it will 'direct' you to a person. A bit of tongue in cheek here because it does not in fact direct you to a person. If you want a refund, you must go through with this chat feature. If you choose to click out of it, the refund process cancels and you need to do it again. There is no way to escape it. Absolutely shit app and customer service page. No point in using it at all, there are surely better antivirus software's out there. Not worth the money (if you were thinking of buying a subscription - DON'T!) or even the effort of clicking the download button for just the free version. 0/5, abominable.

UPDATE 25/6/26: finally got connected to a 'human' agent. I do not believe for a second that I was talking to another person. It was very clearly another bot. So not only is attempting to access a refund on their website impossible, they are also unclear about who you are communicating with. Fantastic. I was very stern about wanting a full refund, but the bot insisted I get a 30% refund immediately. I said no. It then said I should get a 50% refund. I again said no, and this time I stated how terrible the customer service is. Once I said that, I believe they then must've transferred me to a person because the next message said 'I have already refunded the money and cancelled your subscription...' Abysmal customer service. We shall see if they do in fact refund the money in the next 5-7 days, as they promised. Truly awful experience, shame on them.

I had Avast Premium for everything until the VPN quit functioning. I still have Premium Security until it runs out but it is very annoying. More pop ups than a bad 90's porn site. Constant interruptions about nothing more than marketing.
