I think its worth it.

I really like how they show you everything they are doing. They are always tweaking things. They pop in a lot but its mostly to remind of upgrades or the need to reboot.
Its not cheap but it is nice to have peace of mind.

My experience with Avast has been nothing short of frustrating and disappointing.

Despite paying for a package, I was constantly bombarded with pop-ups urging me to install additional products or upgrade to services I neither wanted nor needed. It felt more like dealing with adware than a security solution.

To make matters worse, Avast deducted money from my account without my consent. No matter which support channels I tried, I was unable to get assistance or a refund. I ended up paying for a service I never requested.

This entire experience has left me feeling angry and misled. I will be uninstalling Avast from my computer today, and I sincerely hope I never see your logo on my screen again.

The only thing I can thank you for is making it nearly impossible to contact your support — which speaks volumes about your customer service.

I would not recommend Avast to anyone — not even to my worst enemy.

Avast Review

If you decide to use Avast, expect that you will sometimes get a pop-up message every 5 minutes saying that you have a problem and that if you buy something from them, the problem will be fixed.

So many adds, and lies about needing extra packages.

So many adds. So many pop ups saying you need extra packages when you dont. I ran all the packages and then removed them and the pop ups kept coming saying i needed to scan for one reason or another. The fix button doesnt tell you what it is doing. You have no idea what the hell this program thinks it wants to do to fix a made up problem. The problem is that you dont purchase all there products. Software seems to work. Patch Software causes system instability. I have had more false positives with this than any other software.

Performs well.

Product runs great in the background. Automatic updates load without any issues. They do not try to oversell with continues pop-ups. Detection and protection seem to perform well.

Actual abusive scamware

Do you want an Antivirus product that actively lies to you, and uses the same techniques that viruses use to try to force you to buy a product you don't want.

Avast is for you!

Continuous pop-ups with fearware and bloatware on their free product with "YOU HAVE TEN MAJOR WEAKNESSES THAT NEED SECURING AGAINST VIRUSES". It has all of the charm of a scammer trying to mug your tech-unaware grandmother from her money. I honestly would have subscribed months ago if it wasn't for the continuous, loud, obnoxious, scammy popups, actively lying to you and reducing your trust in an ANTIVIRUS of all things. How did anyone think this was a good idea?

What Made My Experience Great:

What Made My Experience Great:
My experience with Avast was great because the software was easy to install, simple to use, and offered real-time protection without requiring payment upfront. I appreciated the peace of mind knowing that my system was being browsing online or downloading files. The free tools like the Wi-Fi inspector and ransomware shield were helpful extras that added value beyond basic antivirus protection.
What the Company Is Doing Well:

Accessibility: Offering a feature-rich free version allows users to stay protected without financial barriers, which is especially helpful for students and low-income users.

User Experience: Avast’s clean, modern interface makes navigation easy, even for beginners. The setup process is fast and smooth.

Security Features: The company does a good job updating virus definitions frequently and offering behavior-based threat detection.

Device Compatibility: Supporting multiple platforms (Windows, macOS, Android, iOS) is a big plus for users with different devices.

---

Helpful Tip:
To make the experience even better, Avast could reduce the number of upgrade pop-ups and clarify the differences between premium tiers. That would make it easier for users to decide if and when they want to upgrade.

OK, but could be so much better!

Overall, the software does it job ok & free edition is fairly good. However, it is almost as if the free edition is designed to frustrate the user:

1) Pop up 'access request' windows - i get continual pop-ups for processes requesting access to the internet, which is fine. But when you allow permanently it'll ask again for the same process next time i logon, and it'll keep asking for the same processes time after time after time. And these pop ups occur every couple of mins!

2) Annoying UI that barges to the front & steals focus - any notification grabs focus of whatever you're working on, and some do not have 'x' close icons, so you have to click in there to remove (which opens up a subscription screen). Could we just decide to subscribe if we want to, than being forced down this line?

3) Outdated drivers - always complains about outdated stuff, and offers to upgrade (if you buy the add on). However, most of these aren't compatible with my laptop - it's dangerous to offer these drivers if they aren't supported!

4) Fear factor - often says 'XYZ' isn't protected (which it can fix, for a price). It would be better to only suggest the REAL security risks, and suggest the others as optional improvements

5) Clean up - be wary of what this cleans! I lost a number of photos from my hols, because it was over-zealous and i wasn't fully concentrating

Avast is starting to feel like a product salesroom, where 'everything is open to being stolen/hacked', but can be fixed with purchasing upgrades. It makes the user complacent about real risks, because it just seems like a money-making scheme, and not really there to identify the urgent critical stuff

Needy software

Why did my fire wall not work in India? It is constantly popping up. Jez, like right now, a pop up to tell me that everything is fine. Plus the constant "Add this, or Add that" for complete security. You company is as needy as an insecure 13 year old girl. Constantly wanting attention, constantly needing more money and so, so freaking bothersome. I won't even go into how much this slows down my computer. I just want something to do its job, for one price, quietly and in the background. Less insecure 13 y/o girl and more like a great server at a fine restaurant.

Effective Antivirus Undermined by Aggressive Upselling Tactics

Avast Free Antivirus performs well in its core function—detecting and blocking threats efficiently without noticeably slowing down my system. For a free solution, it offers solid protection and a user-friendly interface, which I appreciate.

However, my experience has been tainted by Avast’s relentless and manipulative push toward the paid version. The constant pop-ups are not only disruptive, but often designed in a way that feels intentionally misleading. With strategically crafted buttons and vague language, it's far too easy to click the wrong thing and unintentionally activate a trial or purchase.

This approach is not just annoying—it’s unethical. Users deserve transparency and respect, especially when dealing with security software. Trust is paramount, and Avast's upselling strategy seriously undermines that trust.

I hope the company reconsiders this approach, as the product itself has potential—but currently, it's overshadowed by tactics that feel more like a trap than a service.

Avast is reliable, effective, and easy to recommend

I’ve been using the free version of Avast for a while now, and it’s been an excellent experience. Once you disable the advertising pop-ups in the settings (which is super easy), it runs quietly in the background and doesn’t get in your way. It’s lightweight, non-intrusive, and way more effective than Windows Defender in my experience.

I’ve personally recommended it to two friends, and I even used it to fix a virus issue that a friend had. Windows Defender completely missed it, but Avast caught and removed the malware immediately—really impressive.

Likes and Dislikes (the latter of which could probably be changed)

I like that Avast has products to cover every kind of computer issue that may arise. It makes me feel secure.

I dislike that Avast has SO MANY pop-ups on my computer screen, either warning me of problems they took care of, or TRYING TO GET ME TO PURCHASE ITEMS I ALREADY HAVE, or trying to get me to purchase the few items I don't have OVER and OVER and OVER AGAIN!

Happy user for almost Two Decades

We have been using Avast for almost two decades. It is the best antivirus software with an excellent interface. It provides short, two-to-three-minute free training pop-ups whenever a new threat is released. This is the only antivirus I allow on our mobile and computer devices.

It only warns you about the problems

It only warns you about the problems, but does nothing about them. I get that they need money to work, but honestly it just makes me nervous when something randomly pops up in my screen just to tell me i have a ton of problems i can't fix. Also, I´m like 67% sure my firewall isn't working properly. It would be nice if the pop ups were turned off by default, or if running the program on the background wouldn´t slow down my computer.
