Disputed a fradulent Frontier Airlines…
Disputed a fradulent Frontier Airlines charge with Discover. Frontier acknowledges that they don't know why the charge exists and recommended that I dispute it. Discover proceeded to not investigate the dispute and kept siding with Frontier, despite me providing a ton of evidence to the contrary. Scammy business with an inept customer service department. I will no longer be using this card and strongly recommend that others do not use Discover products.
What they do not tell you until you…
What they do not tell you until you want to do a balance transfer to their card is that they make you wait 14 days after you get approved to make a transfer. I have had 5 other bank cards that allowed me to do a transfer immediately. NOT ACCEPTABLE!!
Don't expect any care or effort from Discover when you have a dispute
Discover definitely does not go out of their way to protect their card users. Even when I have provided the proof they said I would need to be reimbursed from the equally inept Booking.com, they very lazily state there is nothing they can do and although they acknowledge I have provided proof that I paid twice, because Booking.com can't provide proof that they paid the vendor, but only says that they did, Discover considers it a done deal.
I have had a Discover Card since the late '80's and always felt they were a stand up company, but they were acquired by capital One earlier this year, and I have always been abandoned by Capital One. It would appear they have quickly absorbed the Capital One customer service culture.
A Clown Show
Applied for a Discover card and was accepted. Got the new card and tried to start using it a couple of weeks later. It was denied the first time I tried to use it. Called Discover and they tell me that my account was closed because they "could not verify my personal information." I asked why I was not notified of this and was told that a letter was sent to me on October 23 and an email on October 24. I never got any letter. I did receive an email on October 24. It did not tell me the account was closed. No, it explained all the great ways I could use my new Discover card!
I have a credit score over 800. I don't lie on credit card applications, I don't have any reason to. I don't know why they could not contact me to verify whatever information they needed.
Like the title says: A clown show.
I would rate discover for less than 1 star
I would rate discover for less than 1 star if I could. I tried to cancel my cards, so that I could pay off the balance on them faster. I will tell you discover is not willing to work with you at all. I definitely would recommend Citi though. There customer service is amazing and they are willing to work with you! I owe probably 2000 less to them because they worked with me. Some companies like discover are just out to get your money and when you have made every payment & yet have crappy customer service, that says a great deal about a company.
abysmal lack of customer service
Simply an abysmal lack of very basic customer service. Rude and incoherent.
Discover closed my account with no notice.
Discover closed my account because I paid my balance before the statement closed, which meant they didn’t earn interest — even though I always paid responsibly.
Made a $214 purchase online
Made a $214 purchase online. Tracking # provided. Never received. Discover sided with Walmart even though the tracking showed never delivered. Walmart and Discover screwed me out of $214 even though the tracking info was on my side. FedEx was very sympathetic but confirmed they never received the package; Walmart supplier only generated a label.
AVOID BOTH.
Horrible service
Not a bad credit card but absolutely horrible customer support and basically scammy tactics. I got charged for a bounce fee but my bank didn’t get the transaction and my details were correct. They said there was nothing they could do and were very patronizing and just spammed canned responses. Nothing more frustrating than wasting hours talking to support. I could go on and on but they’ve wasted enough of my life so I’ll leave it at this: they suck and there’s plenty of better options. I’m glad to have closed my card and wish I never opened it.
Not Discover anymore
I loved my Discover card, and then Capital One bought them and my beloved discover card and it's customer service is GONE... They say that they are separate, but the quality of customer service has deteriorated to capital one standards... I need to find a NEW CREDIT CARD, That CAPITAL ONE doesn't have anything to do with. I filed a dispute for a charge, and it seems to appeared back to my account again, with no explanation, no resolution, no customer service help... NOTHING. Discover card has to GO.... DON'T APPLY for this CARD, NO MATTER WHAT!!!.... Goodbye Discover LIARS.
No reservation - had to pay twice!
I booked a room in Kearney, MO on Trivago and prepaid Algotels with my Discover Card. When I arrived, there was no reservation. The gave me a room, but they were unsuccessful getting paid by Algotels, so I had to pay for the room a second time. Algotels refused to refund me and I disputed the charge with Discover Card, who TWICE decided in favor of Algotels, even though I provided many documents to prove the reservation and double payment. The second time they sided with Algotels was even after I filed a complaint against Discover Card with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. This weekend, I'm going to file a complaint directly against Algotels (and maybe Discover Card, as well) with the Federal Trade Commission.
Very upset with this company!
Very upset with this company!! All of my accounts were hacked and Discover is the only one who does not stand by their word of not being responsible for unauthorized transactions!!! Everyone told me not to get their card but I did anyhow!! Now I regret it!!! Every one of my other accounts has taken care of the charges but Discover has denied 2 disputes as they DESTROY my credit score!!! I would NEVER, EVER recommend this company to anyone!!!!
Discover lost their soul
Capital One has destroyed what was once the best consumer card in the industry. We’ve closed our credit card and multiple savings account.
It’s not worth it for customer service that is no longer stateside!
Discover has gone downhill
Discover has gone downhill, likely why they were sold. I am dealing with a vendor who refused to ship a product after three days so I requested to cancel order. I immediately opened a dispute with Discover. Now two weeks later and still no product and no word from Discover. I have sent them every message exchange with the vendor asking for cancellation. No response from Discover. Today I received a form email from vendor saying products I requested to cancel have shipped from overseas... The Discover of old would have handled this already, now they seem to be pro vendor, with no regard for their card holders. I will be looking elsewhere for my primary credit card.
I love this Discover debit card
I love this Discover debit card that has cashback. I live in a rural area and the only bank in the village closed several years ago. So far, this card works at everywhere that I have tried it. It is very easy to use, and the customer service is nice. Though, I have modest means, and it probably is not as powerful as using a regular bank for wire transfers, but basic wire transfers have worked with the card. I have happily had the card for a few months, and I am just so grateful for it.
I have a credit balance now for almost…
I have a credit balance now for almost 3 months and after 2 attempts to get them money released to me, they are still sitting on over $3300 credit, not seeing any interest accruing
Perfect for Building Credit
The “Discover It Secured Credit Card” was my first credit card and it’s gotten me to where I am today. I started out with a $200 limit matching the deposit I’d initially opened it with and went from there. You can call customer service to discuss things like APR rate change applications or raising your credit limit, and even if you don’t ask about raising your credit limit if you’re using it responsibly then they’ll increase it on their own, mine is over 5k now and the only time I ever felt the need to ask was during the initial phase after a few weeks of having it when I needed it raised to at least a $500 because the initial limit couldn’t meet my intended purchases at the time. It is worth noting that I’m the type of person who prefers to pay off their card each month when possible, but it’s still the card that’s gotten me to a 750+ credit score and I couldn’t imagine my life without it.
And the one time I did fall for a scam the customer service was very understanding and helped me freeze the account and change card numbers and everything with no problem (though I will admit it was the Twinstar Credit Union Fraud Prevention that spotted the fraud first… and yes I put multiple cards into a fraud thing, but I was young and it was fixed within the week for both cards so shush)
Discover Card & The Fair Credit Reporting Act
Discover Card violates The Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) , 15 U.S.C. § 1681 et seq.
I am trying to withdraw money from a Discover savings account. Discover is asking for a US phone number (I live abroad) or a notary letter. I never signed any paper-work with Discover Card agreeing to maintain a US phone number as a condition to withdraw funds from my account.
I believe this violates the FCRA. Could be a great opportunity for a class action law suit.
Run!!!!! Don’t Do Business With This Company
Dear Discover,
If there was a lower than one star, that’s what I would give you. Great job sitting on my pay off check for days so you could collect additional interest. It’s funny how although it was past the due date no one called me or text. Under any other circumstance my phone would be ringing nonstop. I am not asking to be harassed but it’s pretty interesting how you want to wait ten business days to cash this check. I have done business with you for many years. Never again!!!!!
Illegal and corrupt customer service.
They tried to pay my account using a bank account I had not used for a year and then charged me high fees when it did not work. They also failed to mail me notice or even the last statement so I did not know. Their customer service was awful -- inattentive, disrespectful, and frankly mean. They are corrupt. Avoid them!
