Not a bad credit card but absolutely horrible customer support and basically scammy tactics. I got charged for a bounce fee but my bank didn’t get the transaction and my details were correct. They sai... See more

Best entry card for young adults & first-time credit card holders
Discover is the best entry card for a first-time card holder or a young adult can start with by building credit. I have been with them for 27+ years. With their no annual fees, no foreign transaction fees and 5% cash back up to $1,500 on new purchases makes it one of the “best bang for your buck credit card.” It’s very easy to file a dispute or a charge back with their resolution department and they are 24/7. If you can look past the fact that you can’t use this card outside of the U.S. then this card is for you. As a opposed to Capital One for example being the absolute worst. They offer pre-approval codes to lure you, but they can still deny your application. They are the polar opposite of what Discover Card provides.
Beware of a few things before you apply
I gave it two stars only because their customer service is pretty good. Otherwise, I would have given it one star. I applied for and received a secured card. One week after getting the card - no, I think it was the same day - I got by email a request for an IRS form to prowl around in my income taxes for the last two years or I would lose the card. Well, I'm not about to subject myself to that so I closed my account. Did not even activate the card.
I asked when I would get my money back. I closed my account March 30, 2022. Following was my reply:
"Thank you so much for holding! Taking a look I do see that you closed the account back on 03/30/2022. It takes up to 2 billing cycles plus 10 days to receive the refund. I hope this information helps. What else can I assist you with?"
If my math is correct, that is about two and one-half months give or take a week or two and not including mail. Oh, they send you a check. They do not put it back into your checking account where they insist on getting it from you.
If you apply for a card from them, any card, expect the IRS form. If you want to allow them to dig into your taxes and you want to do it, that's your business. But be aware it will happen that way. If you don't want it, don't waste your time. I now have a much better card and it is not secured and it has a nice line of credit.
Discover not right
One as you won't let me give you a zero.
DiscoverCard has reposted bills that have been credited or paid.
I called them and disputed their right to re-charge several items credited or paid. These brilliant Backwards accounting people charged several back to Amazon. I promise, Amazon posted on 2/12 a credit for that charge and the rest were paid. I have never had a running balance, paid monthly. I WOULD DEFINITELYWARN you to watch your Discovercard statement less they choose to mess with you. And charge it back to Amazon. I could only close the account, THEY HAVE BEEN "investigating" since 4/3/22
False Advertising: PROTECTED FROM UNAUTHORIZED CHARGES.
False Advertising! This Card Service claims that we are protected against UNAUTHORIZED CHARGES, and that they will be reversed. However, before they will make it permanently reversed, they require that you present a letter proof from Scammer Merchant that they will be returning the money they Scammed and unauthorizedly charged from your Discover Card you used, to exactly protect you from any type of UNAUTHORIZED CHARGES, Now, which SCAMMER will ever do that?
The reason SCAMMERS perpetrate SCAM CHARGES is to nickel dime you for services or membership that you never authorized, but they tacked onto an Authorized Fee that you allowed only once for using they're Scam Service (e.g. GetDissmissed.com for traffic tickets). This definitely is an FTC matter. This Credit Card is a SCAM Enabler and Perpetrator too, totally Bogus!!! FIND A BETTER CARD!
Old School but Still Relevant
Old School but Still Relevant!
I have been a Discover card customer for many years. I had an account for a few years but closed it out. I then opened another account a year are so later so I may have been a customer for maybe 14 years. I only mention this information because over that entire time period I have always received excellent customer service. I have spoken to many customer service representatives in different locations, at different times of the day covering many topics. The service has always been 1st class. I have had credit cards, banks accounts and IRA accounts at one time or another and they have never failed to provide the help that I needed in a friendly, courteous, professional manner.
With that said, I really have not spoken with any one over the phone with any frequency. The Discover app, Web site and automated phone service easily provides most any information needed. Their offerings are as advanced as any company in 2022 but their business ethics have that old school feel. By that I refer to that time period when people were glad to have your business and expected you to stay around for awhile. They would treat their customers well even though that customer might not be a big spender. Today, too often, when there is a concern with a business issue the general consensus is "check cleared! don't care. When you call Discover you are not kept on hold for 30 min to 3 hours. Their calls are not dropped so that after explaining and a long wait you have to start over. If you explain a problem they don't start talking about something else as though they had no clue as to the meaning of what you just said. They can understand you and you can understand them. Then, even if they do not have the fix for the problem you want solved it does not take hours on the phone to find that out. They offer many financial services and provide those services in a trustworthy manner. This review is just me sending a shout out to a company worth doing business with in 2022.
Been a customer since 1991.
Been a customer since 1991. The no annual fee credit card has been secure and given cashback rewards with no glitches. Outstanding customer service, even resolved overcharge/refund problems quickly. The checking account has been convenient, especially with the free checks. Site and app are streamlined and easy to navigate. If you're looking for a hassle-free credit card and simple online banking, Discover is one of the best.
All Discover emails contain tracking…
All Discover emails contain tracking pixels. Also known as web beacons, theses secretive codes are embedded in all Amazon emails and are designed to collect IP address, device and browser details, etc. Unlike cookies, there is no request for customers' consent.
After years of reports to the customer service, domain registrant, admin, tech and abuse departments, no one bothered to even respond via email or account messaging service. Postal response says they cannot remove trackers. After complaints via public boards, only things I heard are more PR statements and that the issue was 'resolved'.
Very disappointed
Very disappointed. I recently started a dispute for charges done from “SmoothieBox” when I did not authorize the charge neither received the produce as they sent to an old address.
As much as I provided Discover with email communication between merchant and myself, Discover settled with SmoorhieBox as a valid transaction, even thought I did not place the order nor received the merchandise.
These days all this business want us money. Really the worst business practice from Discover and Smoothie Box. They are meant to me together!!

They have helped me in resolving my first dispute with American Home Shield. Very understanding and knowledgeable so far. I appreciate it so much!
DEMAND FOR INCOME TAX RETURN ACCESS
I have a high FICO score (780+) and an excellent credit record. I applied for and got a DISCOVER card with an excellent rate (11.99% and high limit). Two days after being told that I got approved an email demanding access to my Federal Income Tax Returns came in from Discover card stating that I would not get the card if I did not comply.
GUESS WHAT: THAT IS NEVER GOING TO HAPPEN AND I HAVE NEVER HAD ANYONE DEMAND THAT INFORMATION.
Thieves
Thieves. Not the first time I see similar activity. They start accruing interest before the amounts even post to the account.
When I respectfully challenged the "Supervisor" on the phone in Salt Lake City, Utah, she (Haley) simply hung up on me. I'll take that as an acceptance of guilt.
AVOID !!!!!!!!
When things were good I would have rated them 5, but now that things went south, they rate a 1.
I bought a Nintendo from Amazon's marketplace and it arrived broken. Seller would do nothing and I opened a dispute with Discover. They sided with him, I cancelled the card and now fighting with them over the bill they keep sending that I will never pay.
DISCOVER C.C. NOT ONLINE PURCHASES
I would have given them a 5 star two years ago, in the interim they have taken away communication via e-mail, the only way to prove what has been discussed and their replys. They recently caused a problem w/a disputed online order w/Kohl's and could have resolved the whole problem by showing me a credit that had been posted on the account on the 3rd of October, which would have caused me to accept delivery of an order that Kohl's mischarged me on due to software online order problems. I cannot recommend that u ever order online w/Kohl's, and that u choose a different i.e. Chase, credit card company, as Discover's disputes are near impossible to provide the data sheets of proof of retailer's errors. Discover sent me an e-mail on 10/6 day after 1st Kohl's shipment was denied, when in fact Kohl's had corrected the problem in time for delivery receipt of 1st of 3 shipments before the 3rd when discover posted but claimed in e-mail the post was the 5th, and sent to me on the 6th. Discover might be fine for instore, restaurants, etc., but NOT ONLINE PURCHASES with the many errors retailers cause without accountability w/online shopping.
