25 years but they don't care

Very disappointed in Discover. Been a card holder for more than 25 years but canceled because I opened a discover bank account and they approved everything but then closed the account and gave no explanation. When I called and asked why this happened, they had no information and said someone would call me back. That call never came. I canceled my CC account that I've had for over 25 years. Their customer service is terrible. Opened a new account with Capital One. Guess I'm done cause they don't really care. My advise, skip Discover they simple don't care, not even for a loyal customer for 2 1/2 decades.

Farewell after 33 years!

Sad. I've had a Discover card since the early 1990s when they were just a baby credit card company and was loyal to a fault. I almost always paid my bill on time and in full. But tonight I realized that my loyalty and steady payments were a big mistake; they did not come through when I needed them. After signing into my account to pay my bill and finding two $149 "mystery" charges I was able to piece together that these related to a disputed charge earlier this year. It appears that not only did Discover card deny the dispute and restore the charge (note: I rarely dispute a charge), they also took an additional $149. In the meantime, I did receive an email from an executive at the company that originally charged me APOLOGIZING and promising to make it right. Well, no one apparently made it right and Discover card just made it worse. Being loyal doesn't pay. Discover card's offered solution? Give me some extra cash back on a future purchase. WTF? Why would I want to charge even one more thing on this card? Ugh, not the same Discover card that I adored in my youth.

Discover Financial is GARBAGE

Secured card GARBAGE! I sent them $500 for a secured card and after a few weeks they told me I woul;d get a card in a couple of days, then they contacted me to sign some more papers and after I did they said I had to provide Notarized documents and would about 6 weeks before I could use the card and until then the account is frozen and I can't use my money or the card. I said just close the account and refund my money...14 Feb 2025 I was told it would take 16 business days since the card was never activated. I called on the 17th business day 28th calendar day and was told that they are gonna keep my money for an additional MONTH. This business is a scam to use your money without paying you interest! Save yourself the grief DON'T USE THIS BUSINESS! Finally got my refund and was stupid enough to deposit it back in my Discover Bank account... THEY LOST THE DEPOSIT! This back is horrible and the Customer service SUCKS.

Discover stole over $1,500 from me

I paid Discover over $1,500 towards my credit card balance, which now sits at around $60. If my math is correct (and I have no reason to believe it isn't) that should leave me with an available credit limit of around $1,440. However, if you ask Discover, my actual available credit limit is $0. My payment meant nothing to them, but it sure was good enough to keep. They said that my account would be reviewed and I would be informed of the decision made. This was a lie. I either was not informed or my account was not reviewed. They also claim that a letter about all of this was sent to me back in October, but I never received any letter, something which I have told them multiple times but they refuse to listen to or accept. I am now terrified to pay the remaining balance in the event that they use that to simply shut off the card and abscond with $1,600 of my money like the scumbag thieves they are. I could have used that money to buy FOOD. But now, I have to wait until April to MAYBE have my card work again. I cannot put enough emphasis on the MAYBE. When I starve to death because my only way to afford food was cut off, my blood will be on Discover's hands.

Don’t use Diss-cover

I have had many credit cards over the years, Citibank being the worst, but let me talk about discover card today.
I’ve had a discover card before, and got rid of the card because of no support on a single charge after years and years of being a loyal customer.
Today, again, I have cancelled this worthless card for the same reason.
When I make hundreds of transactions on my card, and something OBVIOUSLY is an issue, they should handle that like every other card does….not Discover(Diss-cover). What they like to do is just say the hell with you. They aren’t going to investigate, help, or support you as a customer in any way.
This is a regular business practice of Discover, I think Citibank is actually better.
Never get this card. Never. Or learn your own way.

Almost 2 WEEKS to process my payment

Somehow my payment got flagged for review.

Their site and my bank account balance shows it being processed in full on the 6th, they say it didn't have it until the 8th, and it will be 8 flipping business days for the review to complete on the 17th.

So in the meantime none of the autopayments I have set up are going through because they decided to sit on my money for almost 2 weeks.

Completely unacceptable

Don't waste your time with unstaffed chat...

I have a $35 balance available. However, a $25 charge to Home Depot stated it declined and an email from Discover stated the purchase put me over the limit. If the $35 isn't actually available, don't post it.

You're going to have to call them to speak to a live operator. Chat is unmanned and you can only answer the questions they throw at you based what they believe to be your problem. Their robots couldn't hit a barn from the inside.

Discover card is difficult to deal…

Discover card is difficult to deal with.

I've tried so many times to settle this account and close it out with them and they will not do it.

They made more than triple what I borrowed and still continue to charge me due to me having an open balance with them. This is basically the way the credit card industry works. They loan out money then charge you forever with increasing interest rates making it ever harder to repay your loan back.

No they won't allow you to ever settle for less. No they will not forgive or discharge your loan.

I mean why should they when this is their bread and butter? It's how they make money. Instead they hold you hostage.

Discover has worked with me on occasions which was bare minimum and didn't really help.

You can throw everything at them and they will not budge. You can even go to bankruptcy court prove to the judge why you can't repay the amount and prove why it should be discharged and they'll have their law firms their pushing the judge to collect regardless.

I'm using a snow ball effect to try and end this debt fast. Because when I do it closing my card and never going back.

Credit card is like selling yourself to the devil. It's an industry that should never exist. The only card that should exist is a debit card and that's it.

Discover Personal Loans has truly lost…

Discover Personal Loans has truly lost its way. I've been a loyal Discover customer for over 10 years, never missing a payment on my credit cards, mortgages, and HELOC loans. But over the last 3 years, something has changed, and not for the better.

Recently, I applied for a consolidation personal loan to simplify my finances during a temporary setback caused by external factors. With a credit score of 760 and a DTI around 31%, I expected Discover to understand my impeccable history and be willing to work with me. Instead, I had to deal with an underwriter who could barely understand English, which is a huge issue when making a major financial decision. This isn't a criticism of where they're from—it's just a fact that clear communication is crucial in underwriting a loan.

Despite being a long-time, responsible customer, Discover treated me like a risk they couldn’t take. Meanwhile, I was offered the exact same loan from LightStream at a rate that was 4% better! That's a massive difference that speaks volumes about Discover’s attitude toward customer loyalty.

If you're considering a personal loan, do yourself a favor: stay far away from Discover and check out other lenders like LightStream. They’ll treat you with respect and give you a better deal. If this review helps even one person avoid the disaster of dealing with Discover, it'll have been worth every second of my time.

Consumer beware! Do not apply for prepaid Discover card!

On August 27th, I applied for a prepaid credit card and made a $2,500 deposit. A week later, I received an email requesting that I verify my identity by signing into Equifax and completing a form that would be sent to the IRS, and that I also needed to provide three months of notarized bank statements.

I’ve applied for other prepaid cards as well as regular credit cards and never had to go through that type of verification process. It makes no sense. It’s time-consuming. It’s unnecessary. And it’s very inconvenient

I bank with Capital One, a virtual bank with no physical branches in a 150 mile radius, I was unable to comply with this request, coupled with my frustration in trying to do so, a result, I decided to cancel my application and I requested a refund.

On September 18th, I was informed that my refund had been approved, and I would receive a PAPER check in the mail within 10 days (by September 28th).

However, as of October 4th, I still have not received the check. When I contacted their support team, I was told that I would need to wait 30 days after September 28th to request a replacement check or an ACH deposit into my checking account, and then it would take an additional 16 days after that to receive the money.

This timeline is completely unreasonable. My funds were withdrawn from my account in seconds, yet I am being asked to wait 86 days to receive my refund!!!

I urgently need this money, And I can’t get anyone at Discover card to assist me further. I’ve hit a dead end with contacting people and every time I speak to someone they just quote policy and procedure and tell me I have to be patient. I filed a complaint with a Better Business Bureau but I highly doubt that will do anything.

I’m at a loss. I don’t know what to do at this point. I need that money back.

Discover promises fraud protection but…

Discover promises fraud protection but didn’t follow through. I sent numerous faxes & letters to prove I had an auto payment for over 600.00 for a fraudulent purchase. Discover did absolutely nothing for me. I found another 80.00 fraudulent charge & I refused to pay it & they reported it to the credit bureau as my debt. They continue to harass me for the $80.

HIGHWAY ROBBERY...…

So..I have been building up my credit profile for a minute and was in the market for a higher limit card. I kept getting letter after letter from Discover Card to fill out this "Pre Approved" Card application with them..I stayed away at first because I had heard some companies don't accept it like AMEX but they're nowhere near as respected as AMEX so I stayed away...finally after getting score up a little I went with them...and got a pretty decent rated card with balance xfer at 0% for 15 months...I thought it was good...could have sworn they said variable between 14.99 and 29.99 on the APR which I initially was only going to Balance Xfer to them which I did...now trying to get to 8 hundo on my score paid them almost $700 on $1600...just to drop it below 1000...how about 8 FNG DAYS LATER they hit he with over $35 in Interest on less than $1000... said my rate is at 28.99 or some astronomical BS Rate...NEVER PAID LATE...ALWAYS PAID OVER THE AMOUNT WELL OVER THE AMOUNT DUE...and Now since I am trying to drop the amount down and they haven't collected much Interest as I don't use the card like that...they want to gauge me for some BS interest....AND THEN SAY I OWE A MINIMUM PAYMENT KESS THAN 30 DAYS LATER....DON'T F WITH THESE GUYS...THEY ARE SHADY AF!!!

I'm so thankful for this company

I'm so thankful for this company. I started with the Discover IT card in college and my credit score has grown. If I ever have an issue their customer service is 10/10, they're great! Anyways, thank you discover for having a great program for first time credit card holders. The app is very streamlined.

DISCOVER will leave you OUT TO DRY…

IF you think Discover will have your back if you dispute a charge GUESS AGAIN. Like most they just want your money and will do NOTHING to HELP you. I used to think they were Ok. Customer for over 20 years. I file ONE dispute, and they leave me with NO product and NO refund.

Dishonest Broker

Customer Service said that she cannot do anything with an unrecognizable recurring charge. When I asked if the company would not do anything, should I just cancel the credit card then, she replied, "No, we can do something." Discover is my least favorite card. They treat you like you are not worth respecting. I have a much worse scenerio- but this is my issue today.

Discover Card refuses to have compassion or understanding for Veterans with being totally unemployable, being a disabled veteran and having elderly concerns.

Per my conversation with your customer service representative on 3/25/2024 at approximately 3 PM MST, I asked for a settlement amount of $800.00 on three occasions to resolve our balance of $3,878.97. I was turned down firmly by your representative on each request! I was informed I DID NOT have any other options at this time and had to wait until April for any type of negotiations or requests to decrease the amount that is owed.

In a good faith we contacted Discover to discuss our dilemma and discuss our current situation with your company. to no avail. I felt like a criminal after my phone call with your representative for asking for a reasonable solution. While she was not rude, the lack of options was totally discouraging.

My dilemma is I am currently on a very limited monthly income and cannot and I repeat cannot afford any monthly payments at this time. I made a payment on 3/19/24 for $300.00 and another one on 3/20/24 for $3,500. The total paid was $3,800 as of 03/25/2024. I was hoping for a reduction of what is currently owed for the remaining balance. My intention is to not go delinquent and then many months from now, have your company offer some kind of settlement. Why can’t this be done now based on extreme financial hardship as well as being a senior disabled veteran?

My current physical conditions have changed drastically in the last several months. My doctors have informed me that I am 100 percent unemployable and cannot work. Also, being elderly limits my options for repayment because of a very low monthly income.

I appeal your decision not to communicate with me until April 21, 2024 and your unwillingness to discuss any other options for repayment.

I believe your company is not willing to work with me and I felt cornered and threatened by the phone call today (3/25/2024). I felt the Discover Card Company representative was frank and stern and offered no options. The call instantly caused my PTSD to increase to a level of stress that is extremely difficult.

I would appreciate someone contacting me to discuss this situation.

A Struggle for Fair Treatment

Currently, I am unemployed and have been desperately looking for work. I was advised to enroll in a hardship program by one of Discover's representatives. I would therefore need to make three payments to bring my account current. However, even after making one of the payments, my account was labeled as delinquent and my credit score plummeted. No of which was explained to me before accepting to be in the program. In good faith, I reached out to try to amend the situation, but in the end, my situation has been made worse. I was particularly disheartened when one of the representatives basically stated that this is "how the system works." This experience has motivated me to strive to be rid of credit cards, especially those associated with companies that treat their longstanding members, like Discover, (enrolled since 2011) poorly.

Do not sign up for their pay off…

Do not sign up for their pay off program. I have paid my bill on time for three years and/or paid ahead. I missed two payments due to health issues. To get back on track, I signed up for a pay off program. They sell it with a "lower interest rate" to "help" customers. It's a voluntary suspension. I made my first payment. When my taxes came in, I paid off the full amount that was due instead of paying over a year. When my account was not unlocked and I discovered a fraud review I did not authorize, I was told that Discover had suspended my account and it would be reviewed once a month for the next eleven months. Still suspended. Still unable to manage my own cards (replace, close down, etc). And, after paying almost 7,500$ off, they sent me a bill for 69.90 in "residual interest" charges. I was told the pay off was 7,400 not 8,000. They said they would remove it and never did. One agent told me, "Well, if you aren't going to use the card, why do you need control of it anyway?" It's a quintessential corporation that fails to follow and offers no incentive to pay off the bill. I'll never use this company's services again. Zero customer service. Zero follow through. Zero reliability.
