The worst customer service I have ever experienced.
I've been trying to solve a problem now for the past 3 months and they just started ghosting me and not even responding to my messages.
The service provided by the company in question exhibited a profound lack of professionalism and customer care. Despite my 1-year subscription, I found the services to be inadequate for my work and personal needs, resulting in infrequent use. I attempted to cancel my subscription, but unfortunately missed the deadline by one day, and consequently, the company automatically withdrew 990kr from my account through Vipps subscription.
Upon contacting the company through multiple emails, I was disappointed to receive repetitive responses citing company policy, rather than addressing my concerns. While I offered to pay for a single month and receive the balance paid back, my request was declined on the basis of company policy. Consequently, I was left with no other option but to downgrade my account, which oddly reflected a credit. However, despite the credit, the company refused to reimburse the amount.
It is concerning to note that despite the company's revenue of 77 million NOK in 2021 and additional investments, customer service remains a neglected aspect of their operations. The company appears to prioritize their policies over customer satisfaction, which is a flawed approach in the long term. Ultimately, businesses can only sustain themselves by prioritizing the needs and requirements of their customers.
I strongly advise potential users to consider alternatives such as Dropbox or Google, which prioritize customer satisfaction and provide superior services. In conclusion, the company's disregard for customer service is unacceptable, and I urge them to reconsider their approach to customer care for the sake of their long-term success.
I love Jottacloud. It does the job.
But it is not "unlimited". It is up to 5 TB at decent upload speeds, and if you surpass 10 TB they can at any moment find a reason to delete all your files.
So, yeah, if you are a home user and refrain from sharing copyrighted files with third parties, it's a great service. But if you're running a company with a huge amount of data, find another provider. And if you want to spread pirated media or pirated software, it is not the right venue.
Their use of "Unlimited" is a marketing lie. According to their terms of service it's only possible for a user to use unlimited storage space if the average user uses unlimited storage space, which is an absurd reality and (surely) Jottacloud knows that.
Taken from their TOS:
"We reserve the right to limit excessive use and abuse of the Service. If a user’s total storage and network usage greatly exceeds the normal usage of an average Jottacloud user, and/or indicates that the Service is being uses for other than normal individual and non-commercial use, this may be deemed as abuse of the Service.
In these abovementioned cases, we reserve the right to offer an alternative Jottacloud subscription, cancel the subscription, or in some cases delete the user account and/or user data."
Beware that the notice they give once they decide you've made "too much" use of their "unlimited" offer, may not be long enough for you to recover your data from their hands before they delete it.
I'd advise you not to gamble the safety of your data on this company.
Jottacloud is good for small files, or files that don't change much but is terrible for larger size files that change periodically. When it syncs, it re-sends the entire file not just the changed parts. As a result a large file like a mail database that is big and changes daily is constantly being fully uploaded again and again. This ties up the backup resulting in other files not getting backed up at the appropriate frequency. Also, the application refuses to back up contents of some directories, even though application data that needs to be backed up is stored in those directories. Customer support was polite but basically said "that's how it works". I am looking for another cloud backup solution.
I really don't understand all the grief these people get. For what you pay, you get an excellent package. Sure, there's better/faster, but against a very, very steep premium. For the price, it is a five-star service for me and has been for nearly a decade. (And most of the negative reviews here are just so funny to read: "I didn't pay for just three months and they deleted all my files!" "I shared copyrighted files only with my family!" :) )
My favorite cloud service. Affordable, large storage, family sharing option, good upload/download speed, great google-photos-like service and norwegian privacy. The service improvements happens a bit slowly and is not yet in my mother language (spanish), but for me it's a winner.
My experience with Jottacloud is that it is unreliable. My laptop could not agree with my desktop and the content in the cloud about what should be kept and what should be deleted. Therefore files kept re-appearing.I contacted support and received a suggested solution. I tried that, but it didn't fix my problem. I then sent an email explaining that what they suggested didn't work, and asked what to do next. I never received a reply. Not even when re-sending my question.
I joined Jottacloud some years ago, when their homepage advertised "unlimited storage and unlimited speed". In 2019 they changed their Terms and Conditions by not allowing customers to store WHAT THEY BELIEVE being commercial files: you cannot store a photo that you took with and own with a professional camera as they ASSUME you will either sell it or something, and they delete your files or even delete your entire account if they like, as written in their terms and conditions. Now, a question arises: don't they state they have the best privacy? How do they know what files I store then? Also, they do not allow to store big video files like a videographer would do, as for that you need to pay much more for their Professional plan. I wish to remind Jotta that I may be a videographer as a HOBBY and not necessarily sell my videos! Last but not least: they say it's unlimited space, BUT...they limit your upload speed to a ridiculous 1mbit/s, making the service unusable when you exceed 5TB of storage used. Basically, a pricey service that spies on your files and may close your account whenever they want. Avoid jottacloud. There are better, less expensive, and most of all democratic cloud/backup storage services out there.
Goodbye Jotta! Never see you again!
Reply: do not lie! Me and two other friends of mine have NEVER shared any file, yet you sent a warning email to me telling me exactly what files you didn't like (so yes, you see my files!), closed another account, and deleted thousands of music files from the third friend. You DO spy on our files!
And no, I will never come back to your service. Neither will they.
Like I said there are much better privacy friendly services out there for a better price which are not dictators. You never know what to expect with jotta: one day you upload professional (personal) photo you took, and the next day they are gone, or gone will be your entire account.
God save you from this tiranny of a company!
Do yourself a favor guys: don't ever subscribe to jotta. Don't tell me I didn't warn you...

Reply from Jottacloud
Jottacloud actually corrupted 26 000 files in my backup set. I lost lots of family photos because of this. I needed to restore some files from their service, and after downloading I discovered that seemingly random files had erroneously a size of 0 bytes. Jottacloud were unable to help. As a solution they offered to delete my entire account and that I re-upload the data to their servers, plus one year without billing for the backup service. I asked several times if they found the error, but according to them they they never did.
The company claims in big letters on their home page that data is "safely stored". I beg to differ. Also the data is not encrypted, this is in my opinion a high risk in itself.
This is from the terms and conditions you have to agree to:
"Jottacloud reserves the right to conduct virus checks and may block certain files from being uploaded."
"Jottacloud is under no circumstances responsible for any damage, cost or loss relating to the use of the Service. This also applies to loss of data stored in the Service and consequences of data loss."
Unfortunately, after 2 years they decided to send me that "I use it for commercial use" without any explanation !!!
They demanded I should buy a business account because otherwise the files will be deleted.
I asked for any arguments, and they searched in my private data and came up with a file path"/ backup / john doe iMac / John Doe dokumenter (server). This was their argument to shut down my account without any further argumentation.
But then they changed the rules - and also went through my files and folders to search for anything they could link to non-private storage. They then just suspended the account not willing to listen to arguments. I see others with the same issues.
And also you can see they never reply their customer here on trustpilot.
Update;
I have contacted "Consumer Europe and Datatilsynet" and I will recommend everybody to do the same, since it is not a fair way to do business and I really dont like they prying in their users private data, that why I find it important that everybody in the same situation go and mak a case at their respective data protection organ in their country
Unfortunately, after 2 years they decided to send me that "I use it too much" without any explanation !!!
Information that I would buy a business account because the files will be deleted.
Unlimited account is fiction (advertising gimmick)
Very bad company, bad contact (practically no support) I DO NOT recommend !!!
I used years to upload my copyrighted photos and videos - after Jottacloud offered a place for unlimited backup. But then they changed the rules - and also went through my files and folders to search for anything they could link to non-private storage. They then just suspended the account not willing to listen to arguments. I see others with the same issues.
Not to be trusted. Deleted all my data under false claims of breaking their terms. Not willing to listen or admitting their wrongdoing.
New plans bad for us that like video making
I really the making videos in my sparetime. That is why i was using Jottacloud for 2 years because of they're unlimited space and upload and download speed. But since they have change the planes of our service this is completely useless. I have told Jottacloud that this is not what i sign up fore. And evenmore i ask them to lower the price since the service is not the same. But of cause they did not what to lower the price.
I wrote this to the helpdesk just to have an alternativ plan:
"Just because like a have a lot of data, does not mean that i am using a lot bandwidth. Because i use your archive function so you can move the archive a Tier down. And there by not putting load on your system.
Please consider this as an option, if you move you data to archive - It will not count. And the you can do like a long term archive like on Tape. And then tell people that fastet you can restore is like 2 days."
Right now i have been uploading footage for like three days.... I is not a solution for me... Looking something else.

DO NOT USE THIS SERVICE! Your files are not safe!
They have a terrible moronic business policy. Granted i might be dumb for not reading through terms, but they literally removed and deleted ALL my files after downgrading my account to free after 3 months unpaid. Literally nothing left.
I was out of the country, lost my credit card, and simply assumed that as with Dropbox they just limit your ability to upload while you are downgraded. Not the case. They completely wiped all my files, permanently! No recourse for retrieval whatsoever.
Dumbest storage service ever.
Do NOT buy into this.. Recently the kind people behind Jottacloud realized that their business plan with unlimited space is unsustainable, so they have started a campaign, where they simply send you a letter claiming that they think you are violating their terms of service, by using your private account for commercial purposes. They will do that whenever they feel that you use more space than is worthwhile for them. I know several clients receiving this letter in recent weeks, which evidently shows that they are trying to limit their customer base to those who pay more than they use.
If you are looking for an unlimited backup storage cloud service. Dont look here
Slow backup, slow download, unstable software.
If you are a photographer, videographer, vlogger or musician and upload videos, photographs and/or music, they will deem your personal stuff in violation of their terms and conditions, and force you to convert to a business account, no matter the nature of your content. - They will react, if you use their "unlimited" personal account, which it is NOT unlimited, no matter what they claim. I was locked out of my account, with no access to my files and now use Google Drive instead for everything. I will NOT recommend anyone to use Jottacloud, no matter your needs. They can deny you access to your data just like that.
JottaCloud offers good service, they usually reply pretty fast. They offer an unlimited storage plan!
Although the site is a little slow. But hey, for €7.50 p/m you cannot complain for unlimited!
Jottacloud is one of the best cloud backup packages on the market. Yes, it's slightly more expensive than the competition but the UI is far easier to use and backups are always reliable and trusted.
Previously I used Livedrive and although initially it was satisfactory, as my backup completed it started to refuse to backup certain files.
I'm really glad I moved to Jottacloud - peace of mind, reliable and simple to use - 5 Stars every time!
