My Brother and sister-in-law booked spa break for my birthday. Check in was fine. Bar and restaurant staff were lovely. However my sister-in-laws spa experience was shocking. The lady doing her t... See more

Berystede Spa in Ascot MacDonald Hotels
I visited the Berystede Spa in Ascot yesterday, the facilities are great: indoor and heated outdoor pools. I had a couple of massages with Elemis products, that was veyr relaxing and enjoyable. Sabrina is highly skilled and very knowledgeable. The afternoon tea was also in a very relaxing environment and delicious, too.

I strongly recommend avoiding this wedding venue. Despite their initial promises, they failed to deliver on key aspects of an event. When concerns were raised, they were unresponsive to both in-person discussions and written communication. The experience was deeply disappointing, and I would advise others to consider alternative venues
NEVER EVER USE THIS CHAIN OF HOTELS…
NEVER EVER USE THIS CHAIN OF HOTELS EVER AGAIN. HOUSING REFUGEES WHEN WE HAVE OUR OWN PEOPLE ON THE STREETS IS DISGUSTING. BOYCOTT
MacDonald Hotel Crutherland
Went to a birthday party in the hotel which is local to me. I am also a member of their gym but haven't used it in a while due to a towel issue. My brother in law stayed there on the night. It was a very warm evening when the party got underway and everyone was saying how warm it was. We asked for air conditioning to be turned on but told there was none available, despite air conditioning vent all over the roof. So AC probably is available but toi costly to turn on. The rooms had AC but it didn't work either. Wallpaper hanging off walls, furniture in need of repair. The whole place is needing a complete overhaul. They are not cheap with their prices either £29.60 for two vodka, lemonade and lime and 1 Gin and slimline. The best deal was a bottle of prosecco for £33.00. As a gym member i know the place is struggling, the pool roof is all rusting, no towels available, I was a member 30 years ago when it was goid and looked after but nothing has changed and it is starting to look tired and dated. Obviously no investment into the place and by all accounts the same is nationwide looking at these reviews.
The hotel bedroom was a disgrace
The hotel bedroom was a disgrace. It was flithy. The carpet was old and worn away. The mattresses had huge dents in them where they were also worn away. The sofa was covered in stains aswell as the cushions and the chair that sat at the desk should have been binned years ago. The lights were old and dated but even the shades had stains on them. I paid £339 for a delux room for 2 adults & 1 child for 1 night and we had to ask to be moved. There was no way we could have slept in that room. I am also so annoyed at how much they charge for an old outdated room with no USB points, no bedside sockets or even a phone in room. And only 1 spare socket to charge everything.
BEWARE: Property Damaged, No Accountability
Macdonald Spa Hotel - Bath.
I had an incredibly disappointing experience with this business. I followed clear instructions provided by their team, yet my personal property was destroyed while in their care. Despite the team on-site admitting fault and apologising at the time, management has since refused to reimburse me for the cost of replacing the damaged lock.
What was meant to be a relaxing visit and a team day out turned into a stressful ordeal. I’ve had to pay out of pocket, and the situation has caused significant emotional distress. It took over a week just to get a response from the Regional General Manager, and after two weeks of trying to resolve the issue, I’ve been met with deflection and a complete lack of accountability.
To make matters worse, the incident was apparently caused because a maintenance worker was “particular about how the grounds look”, a reason I find both shocking and unacceptable. They saw fit to angle grind my lock without notice, leaving my bike unsecured. This behaviour is not only unreasonable but potentially dangerous.
As someone in the process of moving to Bath, I was genuinely looking forward to having a trusted local spa to visit regularly. Unfortunately, this experience has completely eroded my trust in the business. I’ve now been forced to begin formal legal proceedings to recover my losses.
I strongly urge others to be cautious, especially when it comes to how this business treats customer property and complaints. Their failure to take responsibility is both disappointing and alarming.
Great spa break!
We spent a weekend spa break in the MacDonald Forest Hills hotel, Aberfoyle. The room was spacious and well equipped, the staff were very friendly and helpful. I particularly enjoyed the spa treatment with Caroline ( beauty therapist), who was very informative on the products she was using and the associated benefits. Both my husband and I felt very relaxed after our experience in the spa. The hotel setting was stunning and perfect for accessing country walks and water sports. A great break ! Would definitely recommend this hotel and thank the staff for making us feel so welcome!
Stayed at McDonald Peebles - AVOID
Stayed at McDonald Peebles, golf course very good however more importantly the food, staff, facilities are shocking, scenery great and that's all, never to return avoid at all costs. The staff had serious body odour, the lifts didn't work, this is definitely NOT a 4 star hotel i assure you.
Hotel and spa present
We sent the in laws to one of the 1 of there hotels and spa as a present.
When they turned up for the treatment they were told they couldn't do it as they didnt have the spa didnt have the bits they needed. They were given access to the spa but not the treatment and given money off there evening meal as compensation to a lesser value then what the treatment was !
Joined up as member and rate rocketed.......
Went on their website for a room rate and entered all relevant info. Go a rate back for a double room of £71 approx. A note stated 5% discount for members. Went to sign up and after 10 seconds went straight back to the room and the rate had gone up to over £90. What a scam. They get you to join and hike the rate up straight away. I won't be staying there and never at any McDonald hotels. Shame on you,
Stayed at New Blossoms Hotel last…
Stayed at New Blossoms Hotel last weekend. Positives: Great central location, good breakfast and all daily staff we dealt with were pleasant.
Negatives: The bathroom bin hadn’t been emptied and there was toilet paper still in the bottom of the toilet. Couldn’t watch TV as the remote didn’t work. This was nothing compared to the fact that the loud music from the pub next door did not stop until 4.21am, we had NO sleep at all..complained to the Operations Manager to be met with a response of ‘nothing we can do it’s out of our control’…an appalling response in my opinion. To be told on the website that ‘due to its city location there may be some street level noise’ does not prepare you for the reality that a constant overbearing loud bass noise plays continuously until past 4am! We were told by reception that this is a constant problem! To add to this, we were also told that we had paid premium prices for our stay as it was Chester races the same day. I would not stay at this hotel again and I strongly recommend McDonald hotels address the attitude of their management when their customers raise an issue. I have found the Operations Manager’s response to my emails rude and patronising. Extremely disappointing
Confusing booking felt like a scam.
Confusing booking felt like a scam.
I booked through a third party. I checked that dates but when I paid the dates had changed to next day so I couldn't change it.
I phoned Alveston Manor immediately. The told me to contact booking.com but I hadn't used them so assumed it was a scam.
Really confused now because card payment taken by hotel and they say I didn't have cancellation or change option - which is true with the next day booking I hadn't wanted.
I feel like this is a scam but hotel has the money not the booking agent. Is it a scam or just unreasonable behaviour?
Paint flaking off, reception toilets uncleaned for hours, extortionate prices!
Booked at The Compleat Angler hotel as had a celebration weekend away at Sindhu (which was excellent and 5 stars!)
We paid c£350 for our room. We checked in and were stunned at the bare basics. Paint flaking off the bathroom ceiling, very basic, sparse toiletries, grotty furniture, TV remote didn't work, mini sound system didn't work and furniture shabby!
We went to Sindhu for dinner (which was superb) and had cause to use the toilets in the Reception area. It was worse than a public toilet! Used toilet paper ON THE FLOOR, coffee cups scattered about and one toilet that wouldn't flush. This was at 7pm on a Saturday. We let them know at Reception who said they would get it sorted. 3 hours later and it hadn't been remedied. The Receptionist told us the toilet that wouldn't flush - there's a knack to it apparently? Seriously? I'm not a plumber and someone should have cleaned them. They were disgusting.
Breakfast the next morning was underwhelming and they charge extra for very minor items. What a complete rip off!
I would not return and would not recommend. This was a special occasion and it was ruined by this hotel experience.
Macdonald's booking procedure
Sadly I didn't get as far as a stay in a hotel due to their diabolical booking procedure. I was planning a trip for 4 people - got a quote from Central Reservations - there was mistake on the quote which I queried via email - got no reply so rang and was told the price had gone up. All this happened within a period of 24 hours. Terrible experience I wasted so much of my time and had to go back to my party to explain - how can any company give out a quote then change that quote within 24 hours - ridiculous.
I recently had a two night stay in The…
I recently had a two night stay in The Macdonald Caxton wood in Chester. The staff were lovely but the hotel rooms are so run down. We had a moth infestation so moved twice and all the rooms were the same chairs dirty and torn the carpet eaten away by moths and the wood tops badly scratched. Definitely would not recommend a macdonald hotel after that experience. A two day spa retreat it wasn’t!!!!!
Gift voucher RIP off
Stayed in Inverness Drumossie.B&B. Hotel We received a gift voucher £300 . You can't use this at certain hotels and any other offers . We could have got 3 nights instead of two for the price on a deal. If you use a voucher for example a meal if you only use part of the value they keep the rest . Absolutely a rip off
Very well looked after at MacDonald…
Very well looked after at MacDonald hotels in Whitchurch. Treated well at reception and service in restaurant was excellent. Meal was also very good. Special mention for Kaela and Imigo. Comfortable room also
Stayed at Alveston manor on 6 April
Stayed at Alveston manor on 6 April - room awful - extractor not working set fire alarms off - reception not available and later found out had gone to wrong room (which was an empty ) room, lock broken so couldn’t deadlock overnight . Bed broken which caused me to fall out of bed - overall room very poor - all reception said on check out was sorry! Have sent two emails since return , neither of which have been acknowledged or answered- sums up attitude of company - I certainly won’t stay again and wouldn’t recommend to anyone !
Stayed in New Blossom in Chester
Stayed in New Blossom in Chester.
Bathroom was FULL of black mould everywhere.
Reported it and offered a partial refund. Manager was unavailable.
I have never seen a hotel room in sure a disgusting state, and for a 4 star hotel as well.
Avoid unless you bring your own masks and gloves.
We travelled to Windermere yesterday…
We travelled to Windermere yesterday for a day out and foolishly decided to have a drink in the Macdonald old England hotel and spa (bowness on Windermere) to sit out on their veranda and admire the beautiful lake. A large Malbec and a double gin and tonic were charged at an astonishing price of £41... The building is dilapidated, musty smelling and frankly in dire need of refurbishment, to be charged prices like this for two drinks is frankly daylight robbery, no wonder the bar was empty on a Saturday afternoon!
