Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Looking at 3,776 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Consumers frequently complain about unhelpful customer service agents and automated systems that make it nearly impossible to reach a real person for assistance. People also struggle extensively with unexpectedly frozen accounts, delayed payments, and major difficulties resolving fraudulent charges or getting fair refunds when things go wrong. Some reviewers were happy with swift resolution processes when straightforward transactions went smoothly and payments arrived on time. A few consumers noted that specific payments or standard returns were processed successfully according to stated policies without ever requiring direct phone contact or lengthy follow-ups.

PAYPAL enabled online fraudsters and offered zero protection

Defrauded by a company that sold an item that I did not receive. Raised a case for resolution and provided photographic evidence of the fraud and Paypal closed the case in favor of the online scammer. Appalling service though what would you expect of a company created by Musk. Will be using my credit card future and dumping this digital wallet of zero value.

Paypal resolution center is worthless

Paypal resolution center is worthless. I bought a digital download which I didn't receive. Asked PayPal to help resolve.
Paypal found in sellers favour...case closed. I contacted Paypal and they said the seller had provided evidence that the service ( download key for PS5 game ) had been delivered to my email address.
I asked for a copy of this evidence...they refused to give it. Told me to contact my bank or fraud action for assistance.
Basically Paypal saying we can't be arsed helping resolve disputes just pay up and f*** off.

I'm at the end of my rope with PayPal

I'm at the end of my rope with PayPal. As a freelancer, I'm dependent on platforms like this, receiving ad-hoc payments from international clients.

PayPal has shown a consistent pattern of letting clients pay me just fine - and then holding my money hostage indefinitely. I have tried everything. My linked bank accounts - to which I could previously withdraw to without issue - now show up as "ineligible". I have confirmed, authorized, done all the verification steps for these accounts a thousand times. Even when they show as "confirmed" on PayPal, the platform still refuses to let me withdraw my balance. I've tried adding new debit cards with other banks. Inputting direct bank account info. Nothing works. PayPal also stopped letting me withdraw via Google Pay and other digital wallets.

I was never given notice of something changing, or being flagged - just suddenly my money isn't available to me.

It is incredibly dishonest that PayPal will accept payments into my account but give me no access to my own funds. How this company continues to operate is absolutely criminal.

Do not - I repeat - DO NOT - bother to use a PayPal account.

I have always hated this company for…

I have always hated this company for the way they shamelessly skim so much off my digital income as "business fees," as if taxes aren't enough. Thanks for doing your part in keeping the American dream alive and well for struggling small businesses. Really.

The final icing on the cake for me writing this review is all the BS going on right now with their Honey app. Go check the reviews on that one, or watch the recent YouTube documentaries about it. These guys are stealing from me, they're stealing from you, and they deserve ever bit of hate and legal blowback they get from this.

Do better.

Never again working with Paypal

Never again working with Paypal, reason:

Issue PP-R-KSO-551366790

I bought digital goods at United Sol which is the seller on November 26.
It seems that the digital goods are not what they promise on their website. I opened a dispute with Paypal on November 27 to get a refund.
Paypal notified me that I had to wait for an answer from the Seller until December 17, which is today.
Today Paypal closed my case in favor of the seller which is not possible since they did not respond in any way.

Paypal favored Digital River

Paypal favored Digital River, a scam who did two unauthorized debts from my credit card through Paypal. Paypal decided the unauthorized debt by Digial River was right.
This is blatent lawlessness. I deleted and closed my PayPal account as I don't trust anymore.

Account limited on selling illegal digital products

My account was permanently limited with the reason given as "selling illegal digital products." I provided all the necessary information about myself and my products. I am a graphic designer and I wanted to sell graphic templates on a website called Payhip. I contacted customer support, but they just kept repeating the same line over and over. It has been the worst experience. I would recommend avoiding PayPal and exploring other payment options.

PayPal are legalised extortionists, aided and abetting thieves

Paypals Customer service is dispicable. In the initial complaint, we expressed dissatisfaction with PayPal’s handling of our dispute case, citing that despite submitting all required documentation (including proof of delivery), PayPal did not accept our evidence and awarded a thief in stealing digital work and money from our company.

Our account was overbalance £2924.70.

In the follow-up email, we raised a new issue: an incorrect conversion fee on a recent transaction. PayPal charged $3,961.39, but the converted amount led to a charge of £3051.06, resulting in an extra £126.36 cost to our business. We demanded an immediate refund of the excess charge and insisted that PayPal debit only the correct amount going forward yet they refused.

Their automated responses and sending customers around in circles from team to team is a joke. I will be closing my business and personal accounts with Paypal after these matters.

Also complained to the FCA about their poor handling of these matters.

Furthermore I have multiple payments missing from Hyperwallet that should have been in my account.

Paypal are a massive scam company. They need to be shut down urgently. They aid thieves to steal from businesses on a daily basis. And extort people on exchange rates with all their loop holes of having USD or GBP or whatever settings in your account hiding deep in your settings.

Their buyer protection is a seller protection!

I have been a PayPal customer for ages, but that will now change.
The main reason is that the buyer protection often doesn't work, as can be seen here on Trustpilot.
I had a Humble Bundle subscription (Humble Choice) for years, which I was relatively happy with. After you only got 8 games per month instead of 12, but the prices kept rising and I no longer believed in Humble's charity idea, I stopped my subscription. My underage son (who is not legally competent) accidentally reactivated it, whereupon I immediately contacted support and informed them of the error. After I was ignored (no response), I wanted to use PayPal buyer protection. This was rejected twice because the seller had supposedly provided proof that the digital content had been delivered. But this was also not the case. So I was cheated out of an annual subscription and didn't even get anything in return.
I have provided proof and screenshots that my account does not have an active subscription, but neither PayPal nor Humble Bundle Inc. are interested in that.

I can only warn all readers and ask them not to fall for PayPal's promises. The most important thing for me was always the buyer protection, but in reality it is more of a seller protection.

My tip: Please do not use PayPal - use your credit cards!

Your bank believes you - the customer - first.

Got scammed through Paypal from a G2A…

Got scammed through Paypal from a G2A seller who didn't provide what I paid for. I provided all the details and screenshots, but Paypal sided with the seller claiming they provided shipping and tracking information to them. The product was a digital key which doesn't have shipping.

PayPal makes Payoneer look efficient in comparison.

I thought Payoneer was despicable – until I decided to give PayPal the benefit of doubt. The bad evaluations it gets, no matter how many, will always be an understatement.

Not only do they RETAIN YOUR MONEY FOR 21 FREAKING DAYS FOR WHATEVER REASON THEY DEEM REASONABLE (thus destroying your whole financial planning), they simply... don't care. They couldn't care less. They're hated anyway.

"Oh, but register a card, we'll take 1 USD and then return it" – ARE YOU DUMB OR WHAT? A DOLLAR IS EXACTLY WHAT I'M TRYING TO RETRIEVE FROM THIS DISGUSTING PLATFORM OF YOURS. Not letting me have access to MY HARD-EARNED MONEY by playing the "we are not a digital bank" card is the lamest excuse I've read.

Can't you provide, FOR ONCE, a good service, PayPal?

Fees and allows people to steal money

Twice now, they allowed someone to steal from me. I am no longer a customer of Paypal. First, the item was never sent, they refused to get my money back because I didn't have proof of an item never being shipped. Second, the digital download was significantly different than described. Plus only gave a little more access each day for 30 days, which was also different delivery. I had only had it for half that time, yet the seller claimed I had the entire download. Paypal sided with the seller. That is it. Many other better options out there, that have less fees too. 20 year Paypal user is fed up with their fees and bad service.

I tried to delete a credit card and…

I tried to delete a credit card and replace it with a new one. The bank had changed the last 4 digits on my account due to suspicious activity. I could not accomplish the change although it has worked for all other creditors I have contacted. PayPal phone call attempts were useless and the digital assistant was useless as well. I will discontinue PayPal because it is not useful and not userfriendly.

The Worst Company Ever To Exist

I signed up for a PayPal account, filled out all the info, prepped it with my bank details, the whole nine yards. Four days later, POOF! Account closed. No explanation, nothing. Just a digital graveyard where my account used to be.

Was sold an illegitimate digital item from a game site, I let paypal know and they declined to act on it. I am now doing a chargeback, but I caution anyone who uses paypal. They do not offer protection with goods and services, and you will ultimately have to chargeback.

Beware of promotional balances

PayPal Credit has a program where any purchase over $99 is interest free if paid off in 6 months. However, they are going to make it as difficult as possible meet that deadline. They'll add miscellaneous adjustments to bring your balance back up especially close to the deadline. This is in hopes the consumer will assume the balance is paid off and a last minute adjustment occurs, triggering the full interest on the entire purchase. As little as $.01 balance can trigger the interest be charged on the entire amount of the original purchase. The only solution here is to use their digital line of credit for purchases less than $99 to not trigger the promotional program... and then pay the entire balance off every month. There's truly nothing free, this program is intended to get people to spend more.

I just had an $8.05 adjustment added to a promotional balance I saw was paid off last week that is expiring in 4 days. Had I not checked I would have had to pay interest on the entire $118.45 purchase. So just letting the consumer know. The only way to go interest free is to pay your entire balance off every month. Interest free promotional programs aren't.

PayPal Buyer Protection supports…

PayPal Buyer Protection supports scammers, who will send you useless digital "products" you didn't order. You can be charged £100s and the Paypal answer will be: but you received product. That's even if you never ordered it in first place.
