Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Looking at 423 reviews, most reviewers were unhappy with their experience overall. Many people expressed significant dissatisfaction with the customer service, describing it as unhelpful, automated, and difficult to reach a real person. Reviewers frequently encountered issues with the refund process, citing rigid policies and a refusal to issue refunds even for unplayable games or gift purchases that didn't work as expected. The website was also a source of frustration, with users reporting problems with functionality and issues with information provided. Some people were dissatisfied with product-related issues, such as games not working or being unplayable, and difficulties with game downloads. Conversely, a small portion of people were satisfied with the platform, praising its extensive game library, frequent sales, and community features. These customers also highlighted good security and, in some cases, positive experiences with customer support regarding refunds or technical solutions.

Honestly the people leaving 1 stars a usually Bot account or maybe epic games users. Steam is by far the best gaming storefront. Their support team alone would get them a 5 star let alone all the feature, relatively good business practices and and more is great.

Blocked access to mature-content game and I cannot have refund

Bought an adult-content game some time ago and since then a new requirement has been introduced requiring a credit card (and not allowing any other verification methods)

I have never owned a credit card and don’t think I can easily get one either

I have requested a refund of just £1.27 for a game I bought and now have no access to at all, but have since been denied this request. To me this is basically like theft. I physically paid money for this game and now cannot use it

Bamboozle In the Gift Shop

My sister tried to gift me a Steam gift-card twice. Twice it didn't work.

It appears in my emails, and it appears in my inventory when I log into Steam. Twice I cannot redeem it. Twice I had to contact customer service. Both time they told me she did it "the wrong way".

If... If you know it's being sent "the wrong way", then why let her do it? Why take let her pay for it?

Congrats on the great job.

Customer service...does not exist!

Over the last few days ive faced multiple issues with steam and when I talked to there so called customer service they say they wont help and close it down.

When I ask for a complaints line they never anwser the question instead pointing me to the forum to open a post.....not really a complaints line... So overall 1 star and poor service. I guess all that's left is leave reviews.

Draconian refund policy

My son purchased a game but only some of the graphics worked. He kept reloading it to see if the graphics had downloaded properly. They hadn't. But when I requested a refund (also explaining that the game had been purchased by my son using a Christmas present voucher) it was refused because he'd exceeded the play time permitted to qualify for a refund. Raised concerns. Steam refused to budge on their own policy and refused the refund. Rubbish service, to sell a game to a child that doesn't work properly and then not refund it.

I tried to buy Battlefield 6

I tried to buy Battlefield 6. I have purchased games many times before on Steam, but this time the purchase failed. I tried again, but it failed once more. I waited a day and tried with my other card, but it still failed. At that point, the offer had already expired, but I received an email stating that I could still complete the purchase within the next 72 hours.
I tried to buy it three more times during those 72 hours, but it failed every single time. In total, I think I’ve tried to buy this game 12 times using 3 different cards. Therefore, I contacted support, but as usual, Steam is pathetic when it comes to customer service. It’s like they don’t even read my message.
They wrote that they needed screenshots of the purchase process, but I don’t know what they want pictures of. I confirmed the payment via my digital ID (MitID) and did everything I could. I have shopped with them many times before and entered everything correctly, so I don't see what I’m supposed to document. When I asked them what exactly I should send, they didn’t even give a proper answer. They just wrote that if I couldn’t provide those pictures, they would close the case.
I have had problems with them several times. Last time, my account was hacked, and I lost Counter-Strike skins worth thousands of dollars. Back then, they just told me it was my own problem. They never improve. I am done shopping on this platform. I have tried to buy a game 12 times without getting it, and now I can’t even get it on sale anymore I sincerely regret waiting so long to try to buy it on this platform. I should have just bought it on EA and I would have gotten the game on sale.

Bought 3 x £25 steam gift cards and…

Bought 3 x £25 steam gift cards and sent to my girlfriend who got back to me saying the cards said they were already redeemed.
Cards Bought from Tesco.
I asked Steam could they tell me the time and date they were redeemed in their records.
I asked them 3 times with the same reply saying cards already redeemed
And wouldn't check the time and date for me even though I sent photos of the cards and activation receipts.
Steam said case closed without giving me the details I needed so I could claim my money back from Tesco for selling cards that were no good.
I've lost £75 and because of no cooperation from Steam i have no way to get my money back from Tesco.
Wouldn't recommend Steam gift cards to anyone.
It's a lottery wether they work or are already redeemed.
I've heard it's a common problem with Steam gift cards.
Don't buy them is my recommendation.

Steam have the worst customer service I…

Steam have the worst customer service I have ever come across. It is literally impossible to contact them by email, phone, chat or any other method except to use the limited options on their 'support' (ha) pages, which just take you round and round in a loop and never resolve the issue. I would strongly recommend that you avoid using this company, as I now have no access to the site and have completely wasted my money

Servizio clienti vergognoso

Disgraceful customer service. My profile was stolen, and purchases worth around €80 were made from my Steam wallet. Instead of realizing the seriousness of the fact that my two-factor verification was bypassed by strangers, I was denied a refund because the thieves had played for more than two hours. My advice to everyone: don't put money in your wallet, because if it's stolen, you'll have lost it. And finally, the thieves I requested a ban for are happily continuing to play with the products purchased with the money they stole from me.

Allows Fake AI Generated Reviews

This platform allows and benefits from fake, AI-generated reviews that mislead customers and distort real user feedback. There is little to no moderation or enforcement against this, which makes ratings unreliable and undermines trust in the service. Until this is addressed, users cannot rely on reviews to make informed decisions. I have been a customer of Steam for nearly 15 years, hard to believe this is how it's ending.

Steam Support admits to a technical bug but refuses to help.

I am extremely disappointed with Steam Support. I encountered a technical bug in Dota 2 where a victory in a Low Priority match was not recorded, making it impossible to complete my penalty.

I contacted support with evidence 8643288584. The support agent explicitly stated: "We have your report and will submit this information as a bug. Unfortunately, we do not adjust the number of games required".

How am I supposed to clear the penalty if the system is broken and support refuses to intervene manually despite admitting the bug? This is a total lack of accountability. They closed my ticket without providing any solution.

After 13 years changing my oppinion about Stram.

Bought games, payed for them but didnt get them as "error" on the steam site. Contacted Steam and they said that the bank is holding the money. Contacted bank and bank said NO we dont hold any money, the transaction was successfull. After four weeks "steam refunded" my money. These days even multi bilion companies are scamming and lying to people. I duno where the world is going but judging by behaviour of people with money it goes to the end. Trying to scrape last bits of cash from peoppe by any means neccessary. What a shame

Mostly positive

I own about 100 games on Steam, and for the most part, it has been a positive experience.

Pros:

Steam allows many games to be played on Linux.

Store and Library are mostly straightforward.

Cons:

A couple of games I bought won’t run at all. F1 2010 just won’t launch, and Red Dead Redemption 2 requires logging into the Rockstar launcher, which I cannot do because I lost access to the associated email.

It’s annoying that some games require logging into a third-party launcher on top of being logged into Steam.

If you haven’t requested a refund within 14 days of the original purchase, you will likely not get one, even if the game is unplayable.
