Terrible service, I wouldn't even give them one star
My parents broke down at approximately 9.00pm and immediately contacted the AA for assistance. To provide context as to the severity of this situation, my father is almost 80 years old and suffers from bladder cancer and a heart condition, for which he takes regular medication. My mother is 66 years old. Both were dressed in shorts and t-shirts, having set off from London at around 5.30pm and expecting to arrive home in time for dinner. They were entirely unprepared to spend the night stranded at the roadside in increasingly cold conditions.
For over two hours before the recovery vehicle arrived, my parents were forced to wait outside the car, standing behind a barrier on a busy motorway in pitch darkness. The conditions were frightening and wholly unsafe, particularly for two elderly individuals with significant health concerns.
Despite calling the AA promptly, it was not until 11.07pm — over two hours later — that a recovery vehicle arrived to tow them to the nearest services at Leicester Forest East. They did not reach the services until gone midnight, by which time all food and drink outlets were closed. My parents, who had not eaten since before their departure, were left hungry, cold, exhausted, and desperately thirsty with no means of obtaining refreshments. They had no drinks with them in the car, and because they arrived at the services so late, they were unable to buy so much as a bottle of water. They remained without food or drink for the entirety of the ordeal.
They were told that the AA would first send someone to assess the vehicle, and that following the assessment they would be taken home. They called repeatedly for updates and were told each time that help was just five minutes away. The app likewise indicated that assistance was imminent, yet no one came. Every person they spoke to on the phone was unhelpful and unable to provide any details whatsoever as to when my parents would actually be collected. At no point was any honest or realistic timeframe provided. They were also instructed that they must remain with the vehicle, so they sat in the car for hours in freezing conditions with no indication of when they might be collected.
It was not until approximately 4.00am — seven hours after the initial breakdown call — that anyone suggested they could leave the vehicle and go home separately. A taxi was finally sent at 4.25am, and my parents did not arrive home until gone 5.00am. They had been stranded for over eight hours in total.
This level of service is nothing short of disgraceful. My father's health conditions make prolonged exposure to cold temperatures and the stress of such an ordeal genuinely dangerous. The failure to provide any realistic information, the repeated false assurances that help was minutes away, and the insistence that they remain with the vehicle until the early hours of the morning demonstrated a complete lack of care and competence. Had someone simply been honest at any point during the evening and advised them to make their own way home whilst the AA collected the vehicle, they could have arranged alternative transport hours earlier. Instead, they were left waiting in good faith on the basis of promises that were never fulfilled.

The engine in my old Range Rover was overheating badly quite a distance from my home. I've been an AA member for many year, so I used the app to report a breakdown. William arrived less than 2 hours later and spent more than an hour checking and testing. He managed to get trapped air out of the cooling system and checked for head gasket leaks. When the car was again cooling properly he suggested that he follow me for a few miles to be sure I could get home safely. I truly appreciate both his technical expertise and his reassuring nature.

I bought AA breakdown cover and then the next day I needed to use it when my car battery died and the car would not start. I was stranded on my own with two children. I had to download an app to report it because they were, "experiencing a very high number of calls." I then receive a call straight back to say they would charge another £150 to come out because I was 7 minutes short of the 24 hour policy. I hadn't waited long enough after getting the policy to break down and call them for help. I was 7 minutes too early, broken down in a very rural location, on my own with two children. When I explained I could not afford to spend another £150 on call out because I would also have to pay to get my car fixed they said, "well can't you get someone else to pay it?" I told them I was in a vulnerable position and they said, "sorry you'll have to make other arrangements."

Brilliant service received
Brilliant service received. The AA mechanic quickly and safely assessed the problem and arranged onward recovery of our vehicle as well as arranging a hire car to enable us to get home.
He (Jason) also put us very much at ease in what was a stressful situation and we cannot praise him enough for his brilliant help and support.

AA gave a 5 star service: speedy, friendly and efficient.
The AA response to my call was speedy, efficient and friendly. But most of all Christopher was able to fix the issue and offer much needed reassurance in a stressful situation. We are older customers and really valued the support.
Thank you so much.

The guys were very good
The guys were very good. However the fact that they only half fixed the problem and I was told they might not come back to the same issue. I was not very happy with. They did come back and finish the job which was good. But the AA was not very happy.

Peter very friendly and knowledgeable.
Peter very friendly and knowledgeable, got my car going. The wait time was reasonable as well unlike my son’s experience with the RAC a couple of weeks ago where he had to wait 7 hours or more for assistance -that is unacceptable and cannot be justified on any level.Once again thank you for a good service and thank you to lovely Peter.
