Better than two stars - fine and okay

The overall booking experience was fine and good. The information before/during check-in could be improved and save questions for the busy employees. The front desk and information is understaffed and busy all day long.

We stayed outside the dome and those houses wasn’t proper cleaned.

That being said everything in the bathing area, restaurants and changing areas was good and fine, and everything worked as expected. The house was good quality and everything was comfortable.

Great Potential, But Maintenance Problems and Extra Costs Let Us Down

We spent two days at the park I was especially looking forward to the whitewater channel – the Whitewater River. Unfortunately, it was in such need of repair that, in some places, based on our wounds, it was like sliding over sandpaper. After two rounds, both the kids and us parents were sore and even bleeding, so we could hardly enjoy any other attractions without pain. My swim trunks, as a father, ended up with a 40 cm tear at the seat, making my butt visible. The cheapest replacement swim trunks cost around €35, but would have just been an emergency purchase and not my style. Luckily, I had already brought a second pair of swim trunks – really lucky! Some changing cabins were broken or couldn’t be locked. Also, the joints on the children’s slide are not even, which makes it a bit painful to slide down. I also think another water park attraction is missing. Let’s see if the announced but postponed water playground will really open in 2026. The surfing attraction is unfortunately only open outside in warm weather and costs extra. I would prefer if such attractions were included and available indoors.

The Whitewater River will be closed for repairs from May 5th to (provisionally) May 28th, 2025 – unfortunately, that comes too late for us, as we were already injured before that.

A really terrible experience!

A really terrible experience!
We have visited tropical islands a few times as day trips and it’s nice when the weather outside is cold, there’s a few problems like absolute over crowding, overpriced bad food, some of the joints on the kids slides are not too smooth etc but overall the kids have a nice time.
For our sons 1 year old birthday we decided to make an overnight stay in the Ohana hotel, this was a BIG mistake! Firstly we arrived and checked in at tropical islands, as a family of 5 we had quite a lot of luggage and a push chair, the access to ohana hotel is atrocious, you go up stairs, then down stairs, this was really unpleasant and but the kids were excited so we just got it done and finally got to the room, the room…fridge didn’t work, heating thermostat button missing so we couldn’t adjust temperature, no cupboards to store anything, No soaps in toilet and random bit of broken wood in the room? Anyway the kids are excited so we just ignore it.
We had arrived 3pm on Friday, spend the day in tropical islands, sleep wake up the next day have included breakfast (not so good) we plan to stay there on Saturday and leave at about 6pm. We must checkout at 11am on Saturday so we take all the luggage downstairs, there is an exit for the hotel here where people smoke, I try to open this exit so I could possibly bring the car around load up the luggage, park the car then return to the park, my wristband chip will not open the door, I assume it is because the bill is not paid so I think fair enough find some lockers to store our luggage and carry on in the park. We had a day in the park and started packing up at 17.00, we had to shower at the opposite end of the park as there are no showers near ohana hotel, this is quite inconvenient, we get showered and ready to leave, I ask a staff member (very grumpy) at the the entrance of tropical islands if it is possible to check out at the exit at ohana hotel, they say yes, so all 5 of us head over there, this is where the real problem starts, we paid the astronomical bill, then attempted to leave but our chips wouldn’t open the door! There is a staff desk at this entrance but during the whole time in PEAK season nobody was at the desk, I walk to the bar and explain the problem, the lady rings someone explains that we cannot leave but they say there is nothing they can do about it!! We would have to ask another guest to open the door or carry our luggage all the way back across tropical islands (I forgot to say the lifts are broken) I ask the staff politely if someone could come and open the door for us and explain there are 2 kids and a one year old baby that really need to get home, the staff in the bar simply just say no one has a chip to open the exit (hopefully there is never a fire) we end up being released at 19.30 by a guest and my family had to wait outside in the freezing cold whilst i collected the car, I don’t care if German hospitality is renowned for being bad, this is simply unacceptable and we will NEVER make another overnight stay, the whole experience was hugely stressful!

They will scam you if they see the…

They will scam you if they see the chance.
Seems nice and understanding for misunderstanding about bookings but it’s just an act.
When trying to get money back for un-used tickets, as promised possible by a manager at the resort, it’s suddently not possible, know when we are home…
Therefore, just a heads up, don’t go there, and if you do, don’t trust the staff- they obviously don’t want people to come again.

I would ice it zero if I could

I would give it zero if I could. Website not working, cannot add additional booking for games . not enough and inefficient staff. 2 hours of queuing to get through the gates with little children. Only one person at the reception. The website is not working. No taxi’s nearby- paid 150 euro for 20 minute ride to the airport. Poorly spoken English and poorly translated signage. Bought all inclusive meals and instead of 10 euro per table paid extra 10 per person. Food is poor quality, restaurants are over crowded, toilets dirty, queues everywhere. And waited 2 hours for a taxi to get out of the place. Let’s not forget there is no cash machine to withdraw many for the taxi fare !!!! The one and only attraction I would not return to.

Be careful with valuables

I had my stay booked at Ohana Lodges. Because of the nature of this place (waterpark), I had to keep all my valuables in the room. There is no safe in the room. When I checked out of the room and was on my way to the airport, I realised that some amount of money disappeared. The housekeeping has visited my room so…

This place is terrible!

This place… is hell! Save yourself the trouble and DON’T GO HERE!
Let me start off by saying, I’ve contracted a fungal infection in around the pool while Visiting here!
We where supposed to be here for four days, I lasted three. At first we where supposed to sleep in a “premium” tent… you don’t get towels! Also the tents can’t be locked, keep that in mind when you go. You also have no bathroom or shower for your tent (or cluster of tents) but you are dependend on the filthy public rest rooms and showers, which are just horrendus!
The tent had a thick layer of dust everywhere, even above the bed, so gross!
We could relocate to a room, but it cost me an additional 200 euro. Taking the upcharge for granted we made the switch. The room was nice, airconditioned, fresh and crisp. So kudos to that.
The Pools themselves are dirty, murky water and very overcrowded. Slides are filthy, scum, stains, filth everywhere! The food is extremely bad! The only thing that is okay is the pizza or burgers, and the frozen yoghurt. Really, all the other stuff is garbage. At the buffet restaurant the only decent thing they have are the waffles otherwise, dry rice, tasteless sauces, turkey as tough as rubber. Oh and drinks are ofcourse not included lol.
Keep in mind, every time you decide to leave to eat out somewhere off site, they charge you an extra 7 euro for a parking ticket.
Refillable cup is only refillable every 45 minutes. Thirsty in the heat? Too bad, screw you, give me more money is what tropical islands says. Drinks are ofcourse overpriced as frick €5,- + for a glass.
This place is just the worst, we didnt have fun and felt scammed the entire stay.
Staff is not friendly, nor accomodating, except for the manager that helped me with the upgrade to a room, he was very professional and friendly! (Staff told me he was called Toier or Teuer or something like that, so if that’s the managers name, big shout out to you, you where one of the few positive assets this place has.

Poor services if tourist

Extremely expensive, out of the way compared to the rest of Germany, extremely poor co-ordination between shuttle and train station, leaving 2 mins for error. Arrived at the station as the train left and was made to wait an hour. Avoid visiting if travelling to Berlin

be carefull with a "Pfand" scam

It is very common for this place to scam visitors with a "pfand" charge. The way it works is that they will always charge you for plastic cups in which they serve drinks. They supposed to pay you back once you return them to the bar but this very rarely works. For example you ask for a bottled beer, get charged "pfand" for a bottle and a cup... and than given only the bottle. Me and my family made sure we return all the cups and bottles and still ended up with nearly 50 EUR of extra charges due to "unreturned" cups. Disgusting practice. Be carefull!

Lost payment

In February I paid over 2500 EUR for my July vacation. During the check-in they could not find my payment so I showed them payment confirmation from my bank account. It took them nearly fifteen minutes but everything seemed ok and they let us in. I have also received a "thank you for your purchase e-mail". Last week they sent me an invoice for over 2500 EUR that they want me to pay for the accommodation again! I have sent them multiple emails with the payment confirmation but no one is responding. I have already paid for the vacation and I am not going to do it again!!! As someone who used to work in hospitality for several years I cannot understand how this is even possible! Their accounting must be in a big mess! This has been so frustrating that I will never ever come back.

Horrible experience

Horrible experience. When we arrived the only explanation the lady gave us was ‘keys?’ Then we got our keys of our accommodation but we couldn’t find it. It was not easy to get there. When we came into the house the house was dirty. Toothbrush of the previous guest was laying on the four. Crumbs were on the table and chairs. All of the windows couldn’t open anymore. When we got to the pool they didn’t explain that you have to pay with your wristbands and they charge extra when you use a locker. The staff was so unfriendly. When we went to complain about how dirty our house was, they laughed at us. When I wanted more information about the wristbands the lady was very unfriendly. Very bad experience. Would never come back here

Horrible experience at Tropical Islands

Books couple of weeks in advance a overnight stay in a "luxury" tent in the dome.

Could not login to online environment due to a bug in the system. Okay can happen of course.

Than at the check-in there was a line for day guests, that extended outside the dome. The check-in for overnight guests was inside the dome but still waited for an hour.

Finally when we got there, and paid with my amex card. payment went trough and amex chat says it went trough. Then they say, machine is sometimes not taking amex cars and they wanted me to pay again???.

Showed payment was approved but didnt budge. Said i was not going to pay again and if they will to charge me after my visit if it did not go trough. This was also not an option.

Staff unwilling to help, for a business that is overcrowded with guests.

Don’t go to Tropical Island! Very disappointing

We bookes 4 nights in an OHANA family room in July.
I must say that from the very beginning the service and information level was terrible.
We received online check-in forms which we completed before our arrival and a QR code for fast and easy access. The welcome email instructed us to use them in the “easily accessible machines by the entry”, but when we got there these machines were not yet open and ready for use, and wouldn’t be for weeks. So we had to do manual check-in, which took more than 1 hour to complete.
When we got to our room, the signs were confusing and we, along with a lot of other guests” had a hard time finding the OHANA rooms. You basically had to go up and down some stairs multiple times to find the right elevator. Then only 1 elevator is working throughout our stay, so it can take up to 20 minutes just to go up to fifth floor every time.

We were missing a bedsheet in our room so we had to go back to information and stand in line for 45 min. to be sent to a different location to stand in another line for 35 min. to get the sheet.
Then we took showers to get ready for the pools, and our bathroom and hallway completely flooded and we had to use all the towels to wipe it somewhat up.
Now it was back to information to stand in line for another 50 min. to get someone to fix it for us.

After 4,5 hours we could finally swim, only to find out that a lot of areas are closed due to renovation. They need it! So that’s in theory fine, but it would have been nice to know beforehand and maybe to not pay full rate when so many places for kids are closed.

Generally the cleanliness of the whole facility is not good. There are dusty and smells like mold many places. The whole place looks and feels very worn down.

The service level of all but a few staff members are horrendous… we were laughed at, sighed at, rolled eyes at, generally ignored, and just no common courtesy could be found. I was really shocked since this is not the standard I am used to in other facilities like this.
We met so many other people who also were shocked by the lack of service. People tend to bond over these kind of experiences.
This is probably what I am most disappointed by.

We tried the game arcade with our kids where we had to find someone to help us as the machines were eating our tokens without working, or the game itself just didn’t work properly. We counted 9 out of 12 machines that didn’t work, and they gave us the tokens back but didn’t put up any signs that they didn’t work. So a lot of of disappointed kids and parents went in and out of that place.

Now to the food… everything is so extremely expensive in here, which is to be expected and I would accept IF the food served were of decent quality. It doesn’t need to be gourmet by any means! But the food seriously looked like 10 different kinds of diarrhea… it did not taste good and there was not a single thing other than salad that my kids wanted to eat. I didn’t either… but there are very limited options in this place.

Last thing from me is the pool areas itself, I was disappointed that in this giant place, the pool areas take up so little space. I had expected much more water and also more for kids between 4-7. Even my kids (5 and 9) were so tired of the place after 3 days, that we considered checking out 1 day early and simply drive back to Denmark.
This was not a cheap stay, we paid 2147,60 EUR for the room and another 600 EUR inside the dome on ice cream, water, tokens, food and that kind of stuff.
We will for sure never ever come back!

Not so Tropical

The service is horrible, the employees look like they hate their jobs, no smiles, no recognitions of having even heard your order.
The staff in the information was even seen laughing at people when asking for apparently stupid questions.
At Ohana Hotel, one elevator was on constant “vacation mode”.
It might seem like a small thing, but when the hotel is fully booked, 1 elevator is not enough.
And dont get me started on food.. avoid at all costs. Dont book with dinner! Never have i ever been served worse food.
Tropical Island might be Europes “biggest” waterpark, but the water area is only a small part of the park. And as this is the main readon for people visiting, the amount of people in the water is crazy.
Dont book a long stay!

Do NOT book anything here

Do NOT book anything here, unless you are ready for a zero-service experience! They will take your money and never respond to a single request.
I tried to contact them about a booking error for about a week. Calling and writing. Not a single answer. Phone just says something in german after having pressed 2 for english?! I ended up not going, because I was simply unsure if there was even gonna be anyone or a room. Only when I asked Booking.com to cancel my stay and waive the fee, did I get a responce that they would charge 80% cancellation fee (200euros). Crooks and scammers if you ask me. I wanted to book extras even, so they could have made more money if they had just answered their phone or e-mail. Now I read the reviews here, and I am sorry I did not go here before booking this place.
