Update on WP engine's reply to negative reviews:
Unfortunately, WP Engine's replies appear to be the same standard response to many other negative posted reviews. In my case, it's been over a month, and I was never contacted by a senior team member after receiving a reply to my review.
My case had already been escalated multiple times over several months before I wrote this review. I had numerous support interactions, management reviewed my dispute, I filed a BBB complaint, and I later filed a complaint with the Texas Attorney General. Despite all of that, WP Engine has continued billing me $400 per month for services I am no longer using.
For anyone reading this review, please understand that a public response like this does not necessarily mean your issue will be reconsidered. My experience has been that the company maintained the same position throughout the entire process.
If WP Engine genuinely intends to assign a senior representative and is prepared to discuss a different resolution than the one previously communicated, I remain willing to have that conversation.
We gave WP Engine written notice to cancel our hosting plan on 21 April 2026, explicitly stating in a support ticket that we would not be renewing when our plan expired on 15 June. WP Engine's own support team (including a rep named Joanne P.) confirmed the account would expire on 15 June. We followed up again on 13 June, 15 June, 16 June, 17 June, 19 June, 22 June, 23 June, and 25 June — providing the same evidence every time — and were met with copy-paste responses, unexplained delays, and repeated assurances that our "escalation" was being looked at "really soon." It never was.
Despite all of this, WP Engine renewed our account and charged us close to £4,000 after we had cancelled. When we tried to resolve it through their live chat, we waited over 15 minutes for a reply, were asked to repeat information we'd already given, and got no resolution. In total we have sent more than 20 emails and support tickets and have had no substantive response or refund. We have now been forced to raise a chargeback with our bank to get our money back.
This isn't a one-off mistake — it's a pattern of ignored cancellation requests, unresponsive "Customer Success" escalations, and being charged anyway. If you're considering WP Engine, save yourself the stress: read your contract terms carefully, get everything in writing, and expect to fight for weeks to get a refund if you ever need to leave. We would not recommend this company to anyone.

I am impressed - We moved our site to WPEngine as we kept getting compromised at our other host, and WPEngine has advanced security features. After moving a "cleaned" version of our site over and looking at it from the perspective of their services we found a suspicious hidden plugin, that when analyzed had malicious code that repeatedly sabotaged our site - even with the best security plugins. WPEngine was able to capture that information and provide a plan to cleaning the system and ensuring our site won't be compromised again. Arby was my chat guy who helped me out and he was knowledgeable and very helpful -thoroughly documents the issues. We would not have discovered the hack without their wordpress security structure and helpful support! thank you

We love WP Engine, their customer support is the best in the business! We route as many clients as we can through them, ultra reliable.

I moved to WPEngine years ago after a series of frustrating experiences with another host, where staff did not seem to understand what was going on under the hood. With WPEngine, I've received nothing but top-notch support.

WP Engine used to be the best host around. Now, they are mediocre at best. Support has gone the way of the dinosaur. Been trying for an hour to get an agent on chat. First time waited about 15 minutes and no one ever came on. The next two times, it says connecting for more than 5 minutes, but never connects. I've been with them for over 10 years but I need to find a new host for my clients. Oh and they just went up in price too so spending more money for less service. Obviously, they no long care that a site has malware and they don't care about fixing it.

I’ve been a WP Engine customer since June 13 2008, more than 8 years. Every year, I pay $1,150 for the growth plan (digital experience platform including 10 sites and 100,000 monthly visits).
In 2026, they decided to raise their rates by more than 35%. I feel held hostage, I can’t say anything, and they haven’t offered any compensation even though I’m a loyal customer.
I do not recommend WP Engine, which penalizes its good customers...

In tech, there are always going to be issues and unexpected challenges. It's never a question of if something will happen—it's a question of when.
That's why I'm glad to know that WP Engine is always there when we need them. Having a reliable partner that stands behind their platform and supports agencies like ours when issues arise provides a great deal of confidence and peace of mind.

My service was ok, but when I cancelled my service after several years of being a loyal customer that always paid my invoices on time, they charged me 3 additional months. This, after sending confirmation emails that my account was closed and that I would not be charged.
At this point they haven't answered my support emails to explain why I was being charged. Nor have I received a refund for the overcharge. Due to this experience, I would not recommend WP Engine.
If I am provided a full refund for the 3 months I was charged erroneously, I will consider changing this review. If it isn't updated, it's because they haven't refunded.
**I have now received an answer from support and a refund is in transit. I will update again once the refund arrives.**

Their support is top notch, 24/7, very helpful and they know what they are doing. And our site runs so much faster than at our previous host.

For years, I've had nothing but excellent experiences with WP Engine's support staff. They are helpful, patient and knowledgeable. Super!

AI customer support chat through the Support Concierge was surprisingly stress-free! Enabled step-by-step instructions, troubleshooting toggling between WP and Webpress, and helped simplify the process for staging and production phases.

Nickoles Murray went absolutely above and beyond to help troubleshoot an issue that has stumped all other support agents for over a week. He was kind, courteous, and took the time to understand the problem without trying to rush me off the phone. He showed tremendous initiative in trying to find a resolution, even when it was outside the scope of typical support. Hands down the best customer service rep I've ever chatted with!

LONG TIME CUSTOMER: 10 Years+
As someone who regularly runs client website launches, I expect much more from a premium host like WP Engine.
We spent two full days stuck in live chat with their support team trying to fix a problem they created on our client's site. The site was otherwise ready to go live, but we were completely blocked. After hours of back-and-forth and basically begging for help, I finally asked them point-blank, "What exactly went wrong?"
Their response?
"I am unwilling to provide the exact details as it may contain confidential information."
Unbelievable. They caused the issue, wasted two days of our time, delayed the client launch, and then refused even to tell us what they had broken—no explanation, no ticket details, nothing. We still have zero idea what the actual problem was.
This isn't support — it's straight-up corporate stonewalling. If a managed hosting company can't be transparent about mistakes they made on your own site, they have no business touching professional projects.
WP Engine, this was embarrassing and completely unacceptable. We will never use you again, and any serious business should steer clear.

I'm no coder nor tech worker. Just a Boomer building my Creator biz.
I used two other major WP hosting platforms before switching to WPEngine.
WPE is smoother all around for me. Self-help tools included.
Tech support always prompt, skilled, friendly.
Today I discovered a security issue, rare my my site. So I asked a few starter questions in Chat, The answers at first looked too long and complicated. But patience paid off-- with troubleshooting tips provided, I was able to locate specifics to report. Tech support had me remove two plugins and change my password-- something I should have done before all this-- would have prevented this. (Too busy wearing too many hats)

Hosting was good and smart plugin manager was great but I had an unexpected bill from an overage. I totally get that an overage costs money and has to be paid for, but to just charge a customer’s card without any communication of said overage is crazy. At least in my eyes.

Once past the AI chatbot, the professionalism and efficiency of the tech expert solved my issue efficiently and expediciously.

Your AI assistant is absolutely ridiculous. Even though I have a professional plan, I can’t get in touch with you. It’s absurd. I can’t get any support from real people.

Can’t speak for what the experience is like when you’re on a dedicated server, but being on a shared plan was absolute hell these past 3 years or so for me.
I was with WP Engine for 8 years, and at first it was fine, some minor issues, no big deal. But ever since around 2023-24, it was a nightmare on multiple levels.
First off, they are extremely strict about resource limitations on a shared plan.
Secondly, WP Engine is very annoying with their team of aggressive salesmen who they refer to as “Account Managers.”
They are persistent in their upselling tactics, and they often utilize fear as the main ploy.
The Account Managers often send you graphics with manipulated data, cherry picked metrics, and other somewhat misleading plot points in their email messages, for the purposes of scaring you into purchasing one of their extremely expensive dedicated hosting options.
Saying no doesn’t stop them either.
The next time they feel you are using too much of their shared server resources, they’ll come back with an email telling you it’s a DDOS attack, or malicious bots, or a bot attack, or some other crisis.
Then they’ll move you into Under Attack Mode, or they’ll place you on a quarantine server.
It’s nerve-wracking and mind-numbing.
Plus their upsells are extremely expensive too.
They had just increased the price of my regular plan, without an upgrade, by 15%.
And yet they were STILL aggressively trying to upgrade me to a dedicated plan, one that would have been 6, 7, even 8x what I was paying!
Honestly, I am genuinely mad at myself for not leaving WP Engine earlier.
I put up with this nonsense for way too long.
In the fall of 2024, they even upgraded me for a trial period, pro bono, to “work on those server resource issues.”
Guess what happened?
They didn’t move me back to my normal plan, once the trial period was over, and hence I got charged for a month at 7x the rate I had been paying. And that created a domino effect of several more problems along the way.
WP Engine’s billing to me in this case was an unauthorized charge, hence I had to report that to my credit card’s bank.
And that created a technical glitch, in which my credit card company was blocking WP Engine from collecting payment. But I didn’t know this because my invoices from WP Engine were still going through as normal, no issues.
Until one day in August 2025 they just took me offline completely, without warning, because they thought they weren’t collecting payment.
It was an issue between their billing and my credit card, but I suffered through the stress and strife of it.
Basically you will find better value for the price that you pay with numerous other and better options.
And without the aggressive, annoying, persistent salespeople. These people are so over the top they make the characters in Glengarry Glen Ross look shy and introverted.
1/5, D-, 0.5/5 stars
