Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Evaluating 3,482 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Many customers encountered significant problems with products, including fake or counterfeit items, misleading listings, and goods not matching descriptions. Reviewers frequently reported that customer service was unhelpful, often automated, and made it difficult to resolve issues or speak with a human. People also experienced considerable frustration with the refund process, citing worthless guarantees and difficulties in recovering money for lost or faulty purchases. Delivery services were often unreliable, with items arriving late, at incorrect addresses, or not being delivered as expected. Furthermore, some users noted issues with the platform itself, including account suspensions and a perceived bias favoring buyers over sellers.

What’s happened to eBay

What’s happened to eBay. Customer support has disappeared. All automated irrelevant responses.
Have used eBay for 15 years but will now change to better run platform that is not all about corporate greed and poorly performing AI.

WORST PLATFORM FOR SELLERS EVER

WORST PLATFORM FOR SELLERS EVER

Don't fall for the 'sell 10 items and meet our criteria for payout within 24hrs of buyer paying'. It is a SCAM.
Ive sold 14 items now and passed the threshold 3 weeks ago - they STILL insist that the 'system just takes time to update'.
If you want to complain, good luck arguing with a BOT.
EBAY DESEVRES TO FAIL.

Ive removed all of my listings and will never sell on the platform again, its infuriating.

If you're a private seller, stay away from eBay.

If you're a private seller, stay away from eBay.

In my opinion, eBay has created a platform where dishonest buyers have far more protection than honest sellers. After my experience, I believe it has become a scammer-friendly environment.
I sold a graphics card with photographs showing it was in excellent condition before dispatch. The buyer later claimed it was damaged but failed to provide evidence proving it was even the same graphics card. I repeatedly asked eBay to obtain photographs showing the serial number and the packaging, but they refused to investigate those obvious concerns.
I followed every instruction eBay gave me. I arranged a prepaid tracked Royal Mail return label within the deadline they set. Despite this, eBay refunded the buyer before the hold period they had told me would expire, permanently suspended my account while the dispute was still active, and prevented me from defending myself.
The result? The buyer kept the refund, never returned my graphics card, and I lost both my property and the sale proceeds.
When I asked eBay to explain their decisions, they refused to provide any evidence and simply claimed my account represented a "risk" without explaining why. Different customer service representatives gave contradictory information, leaving me with no meaningful way to challenge the outcome.
Based on my experience, I believe eBay's system protects dishonest buyers far more than honest private sellers. If you value your property, think very carefully before selling on this platform.

NEVER SELL ON EBAY THEY HAVE INDIAN AS CHAT SUPPORT WHO DONT LISTEN WHAT SO EVER

My experience with eBay has been extremely disappointing.

The customer support is one of the worst I've dealt with. The representatives don't seem to listen to what you're actually saying. Instead of trying to understand the issue, they keep repeating the same scripted responses and often end the chat before you've even had a chance to fully explain the problem or ask follow-up questions.

What makes it even more frustrating is how my account was handled. eBay asked me to provide invoices for the items I sold, which I did. They then requested proof of delivery and tracking information, and I provided everything they asked for. Despite fully complying with every request, my account remained restricted and my funds were still withheld without any meaningful explanation.

It feels like the evidence you submit isn't properly reviewed, and you're left going in circles with customer support that simply repeats scripted replies instead of resolving the issue.

I expected much better from a company as large as eBay. If you're a seller, be aware that even if you provide all the documentation requested, you may still end up with a restricted account and your funds held indefinitely while receiving little to no real support.

Buyers BEWARE

Buyers BEWARE! top*uk*shop is selling old stock of Fortem items. This was verified when I tried to register for the 'lifetime warranty ', which Fortem cancelled a few years ago.
Copy of email from Fortem;
Hey Eddie, yes we offered lifetime before but it was discontinued years ago. We provided new warranty cards to Amazon but it looks like you received an old one. But buyers from our site, Shopify, and Amazon, can always contact us here regarding our product, and we'll help you in the best way we can.
Unfortunately, we cannot honor warranties for orders not sold by us. You may return the unit to the seller and reorder from our Amazon store and we'll attend to your concerns anytime.
My apologies,
Erika B.

Refund given, but eBay says it’s a “one‑time only” exception

After eBay initially refused my refund for a non‑delivered item (despite there being no photographic proof of delivery), they have now reversed their decision and refunded me. However, they made it clear this was a one‑time only exception, and that if the same issue happens again, I will not be refunded.

This actually highlights the core problem: eBay’s system still relies solely on courier tracking, even when there is no evidence the item was delivered. Their automated bots continue to override the Consumer Rights Act 2015, which requires the item to be in the buyer’s physical possession, not just marked as “delivered” on a courier’s internal system.

I’m grateful the refund was eventually issued, but the underlying issue remains unchanged. If a courier misdelivers or loses your parcel, eBay may still leave you out of pocket — and they have told me directly that future cases may not be refunded.

Don't be fooled by "ebay buyer…

Don't be fooled by "ebay buyer protection". I ordered a dvd player which the seller sent by EVRI. It did not arrive. EVRI lied and claimed it had been delivered without proof. Ebay did not want to know. Ebay is supposed to protect us from companies like EVRI. ha

eBay is not protecting buyers anymore

I purchased an item on eBay and had it sent to a pickup point, I got tracking and waiting for a parcel. Got notification that parcel was ready to collect, went to the shop and staff told me that there's no parcel for me. There was no photo on royal mail website as proof of delivery either to that pick up point. Royal mail told me sender needs to contact them . eBay took side of seller since the seller provided tracking number. It doesn't matter that on eBay tracking says that parcel is not collected and seller told me that parcel is lost . Just a warning for other buyers that they need to think twice before they want to waste money on website that advertise that there is a buyer protection... because actually there is no buyer protection. You may end up with no goods and no money.

Yet another eBay failing. Apparently a spare part from a 1975 air pistol is an assault rifle. Your AI has got to be the most pathetic piece of kit currently being used by any company. You really need to sort yourself out.

My account was permanently suspended…

My account was permanently suspended without clear details being provided. I was only given a general reason such as “high-risk activity” without any specific explanation. Support keeps repeating the same automated response. I was unable to understand the exact reason or resolve the issue, and the account was suspended suddenly.
In addition, I had funds from completed transactions that were placed on hold, and I was not given clear information about when or how they would be released. The overall experience felt unclear and frustrating due to the lack of transparency.

I won't use ebay again

I won't use ebay again! I have money in my ebay account that I wish to withdraw but I can't!! Every card I try to add in or bank account cannot be verified. Obviously ebay want to keep the money to float on the stock exchange and by keeping my money in thier account the only way I can now get access to it is to buy something else through ebay which I don't want to do. Absolutely dreadful service. The operator on the online chat has told me the only way I can get my money is to set up a new bank account or credit card which is ridiculous. I feel very cheated!!

Utterly Disgusting Platform

After 17 years on eBay, I’m shocked at how badly the platform now treats genuine sellers. Fees are high, promotions feel forced, and support is almost impossible to reach.

As a buyer, I’ve received countless faulty items over the years — broken electronics, damaged goods, and items nothing like the description. I’ve easily lost over £2,000 because the complaint system is so ineffective.

But my recent experience as a seller was the final straw. A buyer damaged a collection‑only item after confirming it arrived “all intact.” Instead of protecting me, eBay instantly refunded the buyer, removed the money from my account, and told me to pay for a return label for an item the buyer had already ruined. My appeals were met with generic from their India based customer service, scripted responses that ignored the evidence.

Even when I asked for a formal complaint, the replies were dismissive and unhelpful. It feels like honest sellers are punished while bad behaviour goes unchecked.

I’m closing my account. eBay desperately needs a fair, transparent, and competent support system. Right now, it’s simply not a platform I can trust.

Automated moderation is broken, and human support refuses to fix it.

eBay's automated moderation system is fundamentally broken, and their escalation team is non-existent. A seller (who lied about an item's condition and tried to cover it up) retaliated by leaving feedback on my account using a combination of emojis (a bell and an end arrow) to spell out a highly offensive, vulgar British insult.

Because it used emojis instead of text, eBay's AI bots failed to recognize the bypass and ruled that the feedback didn't violate their 'Threats & Offensive Language' policy. I escalated this to a human review, providing the exact policy and explaining the coded profanity.

My appeal was immediately rejected by another bot.

I escalated this directly to the UK Executive Escalations Team (Ref: 2-106210502319) a week ago, detailing how their system is being easily manipulated by abusive sellers. I have received zero response. eBay completely relies on flawed AI to police their platform and ignores users when the AI fails. Appalling customer service.

Why hold payment untill 2 days after…

Why hold payment untill 2 days after delivery just because we don’t sell much so obviously don’t get them much money you should be told before you list that the item you are listing at that point will be held then you can choose if you want to list or not they know they would lose a lot of sales plus why do the eBay delivery service just to be treated the same they don’t even trust their own system it should be a minimum of as soon as you get it to a courier you should be paid
This current system is unfair to people who don’t sell much

Maybe of some interest I received this as part of a email

When funds are temporarily held on eBay, they are placed in secure, pooled institutional accounts to ensure safe processing and transaction security. Per our User Agreement and Payments Terms of Service, eBay may earn interest on funds before they are paid out, except where prohibited by law

I would have thought that earned interest on any money should be paid to that person who is owed the money

Buyer "Protection" Fee + Multiple Choice Listings

Tired of paying £1-3 fees on small items, called "protection" - this shouldn't be mandatory when paying with PayPal because of PayPal protection.

In reality it's an eBay fee for using eBay.

Also tired of multiple-choice-select listings as they make searching by lowest price impossible.

You stink, big time.
