Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Considering 2,408 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Many customers reported receiving products not as described, damaged, or incorrect. The website's problematic backend and concerns about item display and seller limitations led to perceptions of an untrustworthy platform. Customer service was a major frustration, described as unreachable, unhelpful, and providing inconsistent information, making human assistance difficult. Delivery services were unreliable, with issues like missing tracking, non-delivery, and items not arriving, while the refund process also caused significant problems, with users unable to initiate refunds or having disputes denied. However, some customers found the platform useful for locating specific or hard-to-find items. A few people also reported positive experiences with customer service, noting their helpfulness when sellers fell short.

Thanks Ebay, using you for over 20 years and I am still under 18

Usually problems with Ebay are with selling. Now I find that they are completely useless with buying. I wanted to bid on some antique chisels, bladed articles. But although I have been using Ebay for over 20 years and they have my credit card number my age is apparently under 18. All the help is about verification after purchase, not a word about what to do before bidding. All the help I can get is an artificial stupidity system telling me there is no agent as it is out of hours despite being well into their stated business hours.

!WARNING eBAY USERS!

WARNING! WARNING!! WARNING!!!
BE WARNED!!!!!!!!!!!
Slowly but surely becoming one of the worst sites...
eBay has taken poor, rude self destructing conducts to a new level.
This company using AI to pull listings for no valid reason. And then you talk to live agents and they are as smart as a box of hair. Then you might ask to talk to a manager whom you wish to be a little smart for example, ROBERT. Good luck with that one too!
STAY AWAY AT ALL COST OR FACE THE CONSEQUENCES!

P.S Trustpilot should come up with negative stars for sites that doesn't even deserve 1 star!

Provided Evidence of Fraud, Appeal Denied Anyway

⭐☆☆☆☆ (1 Star)

After years of buying and selling on eBay, this is the experience that finally destroyed my trust in the platform.

I was scammed by a buyer and lost over $200. What is most frustrating is not the financial loss itself—it's the fact that I followed every single step required by eBay's process and was still left holding the bag (or lack thereof).

When the buyer opened a case, I provided evidence. When eBay ruled against me, I appealed. During the appeal, I submitted additional documentation supporting my claim and even filed an official report with the appropriate internet crime reporting authorities. Despite all of this, eBay upheld its original decision.

The message to sellers is clear: you can provide evidence, follow every rule, meet every deadline, and still be ignored.

What makes this even more concerning is that the buyer's feedback history contained warning signs and reports from other users describing similar experiences. Yet eBay chose to side with the buyer and absorb none of the consequences themselves, instead placing the entire burden on the seller.

Over the years I have generated tens of thousands of dollars in fees for eBay through my sales alone, not including my purchases on the platform. Loyalty, transaction history, documentation, and good faith meant absolutely nothing when it came time for eBay to stand behind one of its sellers.

Seller protection appears to exist only until it is actually needed.

This experience has severely damaged my confidence in eBay's dispute resolution process. The financial loss is disappointing, but the complete unwillingness to reconsider compelling evidence is what cost eBay my trust, respect, and future business.

If you are a seller, understand that even when you do everything correctly, there is no guarantee that the evidence will matter.

Banned instantly without a single transaction. Absolute nightmare for legitimate EU businesses.

I created a legitimate business account for my registered brand in Romania to sell within the EU and UK. Less than an hour later, without listing a single item or making a single transaction, the account was permanently suspended. When I reached out to customer support, an agent named Prashanth gave me a robotic, copy-pasted response saying the decision is permanent, non-appealable, and they refuse to provide any reason. It is absolutely unacceptable to ban verified companies based on broken automated filters and then completely shut the door on human verification. If you are a legitimate corporate entity in Europe looking for a reliable marketplace, look elsewhere. eBay is a waste of time and hostile towards honest businesses.

Sent my complaint to the email given and had used before in other words ebay don't want to know, the complaint was about a cancellation nobody wants to know, plus the seller who didn't send the item, actually order it direct to have it deliver to me fro Ali express, so I see no point on using ebay, so I would urge people to use Ali express or temu it's a lot cheaper.

Ebay Vegas Authenticators Damaged My Rare Exotic Manolo Blahnik Shoes New in Box.

I sold a pair of $1300 Manolo Blahnik rare eel
skin heels. eBay has now started to authentic designer shoes. These shoes went to the Vegas hub. They r not only damaged the shoes which were NEW by using a chemical on them and stained the skins, broke the box lid and reported they were not authentic.
I received them back and used a reputable online authenticity site who came back with a report they were authentic, which I already knew.
Ebay agent told me that the certificate is useless to them because they have their own authenticators.
Who are they!? They obviously do not know what they’re doing in the VEGAS HUB!
I’ve been selling my own designer wear and shoes on eBay for 20 years and never faced this problem.

Now, I’m left with damaged shoes and no recourse against EBay. They don’t care. If this continues with another sale going up Vegas hub I will close my account.

I would give zero stars if I could

I would give zero stars if I could. Sellers are scammers. Dealing with ebay costumer service (if you're lucky enough or actually find a way to contact them) is utterly useless and a waste of time. THE most infuriating and frustrating transaction I've ever had in my life. Never again.

eBay does not value its users

Used eBay for buying mostly but listed once an antique horse after verifying its price both on line and with an antique dealer. A pathetic busy body decided it was a plastic, fake replica of the real thing and soon eBay terminated my account and I am permanently banned when the photo this woman had of the plastic replica was not even close to matching the obviously wood/iron antique I had and photographed. I was accused then banned and eBay would not even discuss it or hear anything I had to say even though I’ve been a very honest / legitimate/ respectful buyer for the most part, this was the only sale I listed but ended up scaling it on Facebook so removed the post but apparently miss know it all already put her two cents in and it was immediately believed without any investigation or simple fact checking or even a simple look at the picture I had listed would have contradicted her claims but apparently eBay does not care enough about their users to even bother trying to do them right. eBay prices are higher anyway, and they charge fees, it was a blessing in disguise. I would never use an app that does their customers this way.

I’ve been using eBay for years now

I’ve been using eBay for years now, and I genuinely always have a great experience with them. The platform is incredibly reliable, and whenever I've run into any issues, their customer support team has been helpful and quick to get things sorted out. Having used them for so long, I can confidently say they are consistent, trustworthy, and my go-to choice.

I am extremely disappointed with eBay.

I am extremely disappointed with eBay.
My account is over 14 years old. During all these years, I have been a loyal customer, buying and selling on the platform and even maintaining a paid eBay Store. I always followed the rules and paid all required fees.
Without any warning, my account was suddenly restricted. No prior notice, no opportunity to resolve the issue beforehand, and no clear explanation. I provided every document requested, including proof of identity and address, yet I continue to receive generic responses while support agents close chats without answering my questions.
What is most frustrating is that eBay seems unwilling to consider the history of long-standing customers. Fourteen years of trust, successful transactions, and business activity apparently mean nothing.
My business has been severely affected, sales have stopped, and I am left with no real explanation or meaningful assistance.
I expected much better from a company of eBay's size and reputation. Long-term users deserve transparency, respect, and a fair appeals process.
Fourteen years of loyalty were erased overnight without warning. That is not how a company should treat its customers.

eBay is horrible. eBay is dishonest.

eBay is horrible. They have no customer service. You can't ever talk to a real person. Their voice activated system is worthless. I bought something, it was fake. I've disputed it. eBay says to give the seller 2 more days to respond. Its been 5 days. Nothing. I try calling eBay and can't get through the gauntlet. And, or course, they'd never keep a commitment and call me back. I hate eBay so bad. I absolutely hate this company.

Ebay: not what it once was. Engage with ebay at your own risk.

Without a transaction in 7 years, and without cause, ebay has suspended my account. Without overt explanation. Despite having updated my account. Perhaps this is because ebay has made available only inferior quality items that are fraudulent copies of Japanese and American, which ebay procures from China. If one challenges my complaint, here is the verbatim response from ebay, which ebay concedes is sent from an email address that does not respond to complaints:

Your account has been suspended because recent account activity has raised serious security concerns. We've taken this precaution to protect our members and the eBay community.
Due to the suspension, you won't be able to use your eBay account in any way. This includes using another existing account or registering a new account.
Any outstanding selling fees are due immediately, and any amounts that you haven't previously disputed will be charged to the billing method currently on file.
We appreciate your understanding.
Thanks,
eBay

Honest international sellers are left unprotected when buyers ignore import duties

I strongly advise against this. eBay does not offer sufficient seller protection, which often leads to costly losses.

I am an international seller on eBay, and I experienced a serious issue that shows a major gap in eBay’s seller protection system.

A buyer in Canada received the item successfully, but did not pay the required import duties/GST and customs-related charges. My listing clearly stated that import duties, taxes, and carrier customs charges are the buyer’s responsibility.

However, because the buyer did not pay, FedEx later rebilled the unpaid amount to me as the shipper. I was forced to pay about $100 even though the item had already been delivered and the buyer had received it.

I contacted eBay multiple times. eBay acknowledged that import duties and taxes are generally the buyer’s responsibility and said the buyer was reported. However, eBay could not provide any compensation, fee credit, goodwill adjustment, or practical way to recover the loss.

Even worse, because more than 90 days had passed, I could no longer properly use the normal buyer reporting/contact options through the order. This is a serious system problem. A buyer can ignore import duties after delivery, while the seller receives a carrier bill much later and has no effective recovery method.

This is extremely unfair to honest sellers. If eBay allows buyers to receive items, ignore customs obligations, and then leaves sellers to absorb the loss, international selling becomes too risky.

I strongly ask eBay to improve this system:

Keep buyer reporting available for post-transaction carrier/customs billing issues beyond 90 days
Provide meaningful seller protection when a buyer fails to pay import duties after receiving the item
Create a process to contact or hold buyers accountable in these cases
Offer fee credits or goodwill compensation when the seller clearly acted in good faith

I have used eBay seriously as a seller, but this experience makes it very difficult to feel safe continuing international sales on the platform.

Good place to buy and sell odds and ends

Good website for buying odd items hard to find elsewhere and sometimes getting good deals, but it's just a marketplace facilitating person-to-person transactions so don't expect next-day shipping or anything.
