I lost a lot of money by engaging this company

I nearly lost £876 to this company until HIES stepped in to get my money back.

Basically, they said they could do the job, put up some scaffolding, then decided that the roof was too old and because it was slate it would take too long and be too hard.

E.On said they were cancelling the job and that deducting their costs for this (scaffolding, installers) was perfectly normal. They offered to refund just £74 of my £950 deposit.

After several weeks, unanswered letters, emails, and phone calls I engaged HIES (the industry watchdog) who got me back some of the money (for the scaffolding). I’m still over £200 out of pocket.

Product great, terrible delivery journey.

Now they are in, the solar panels are great but getting them there has been torture. Unfortunately the e-on sales rep didn’t bother passing on my signed documents so I had to call him twice (I thought he’d be pleased to get a sale) then it transpires that he left the company and didn’t bother passing on my details. So I phoned e-on and asked if they wanted the business at which point they finally got the prices rolling. Then they subcontracted out the installation. That was a disaster (installers cancelled and didn’t rebook, never ever called back when asked), then the one day installation took 3 days. Scaffolders then missed 5 appointments to remove the scaffolding. By then I think e-on realised this was a disaster area so sent their own electricians to do the wiring-the only part that went smoothly. Lesson in all this? Don’t subcontract the work to cowboys or you look crap. So 2 stars. Would have been 1 but I’ve mellowed since and enjoy watching the cash roll

3.92KWhr SolarEdge System Install

I had my system installed in Aug'19 and have been thoroughly pleased with it. Reliability is excellent and I have not had to touch it since day of install. I'm glad I went for the MPPT version / Power optimisers fitted to the panels because I'm consistently getting +20% extra than an equivalent system without it.
The install team were great and very knowledgeable, to my surprise they easily installed the system in 1-day.
I'm on-track to get a pay-back after about 8-9 years.
My view is if someone had £6000 in the bank, why would they not install solar (even without FIT payments) as the rate of return far exceeds what any bank would offer, mine is about 11% easily and I hope by the end of the year will be much more.

It takes a lot to impress me!

I was very impressed from the start to the finish. I was kept informed at every stage of the process, I was also extremely impressed with the installation and the follow up from Eon. My first energy bill after the installation was in credit! The system generated more energy than I used. It was the Summertime quarter admittedly! But the Autumn was the real surprise. My energy bill was 5.42! For a whole quarter! I was really surprised. The system has not caused any problems, my energy bills are far lower, and I expect the system to pay for itself in record time. Thank you Eon! Job well done!

Poor project and subcontractor management

E-on just does the marketing and contracting and then use other solar installer and scaffolding people to do the job. It is fine but they should have created a tool to track these activities. It is bizarrely unorganised. I had to keep their payment as hostage for them to come and collect the stuff they left behind.

Having said that you want your paperwork to be in the name of a solid name like e-on. I am buying a house and their PV is installed by a company that is bankrupt. I had lots of headache to clear it with mortgage company.

Very pleased with the amount being…

Very pleased with the amount being generated, they're much more efficient than the ones I had on my previous home.

The whole process was very well-managed by EOn, which made it very easy for us. From first enquiry through to installation, everything was straightforward.

I contacted E.ON through an on-line…

I contacted E.ON through an on-line advert for solar energy encouraging people to apply before the feed in tariff expires in March. E.ON cancelled my 1st appointment by email without giving me a reason for this. Their representative for the 2nd appointment did not pre-call as he was supposed to. If he had he would have told me that the new appointment would not be installed in time to qualify for the feed in tariff. This would have saved me wasting half a day holiday from work. To add to this, their representative did not turn up on the day or contact me. He did not answer his phone, texts or email. I waited an hour for him then nearly 25 minutes on the phone trying to get through to their customer service with no answer.
Their communication is appalling. They have cancelled appointments causing me to be ineligible for the March cut off deal and waste holiday days. They begged for a third chance and then want to send me the same person who had ‘personal issues’ and let me down the second time. I have waited nearly 25 minutes for customer service to answer me but had to give up waiting. They really re not professional. This is supposed to be the department that works hard to entice new custom. I cannot imagine what the service is like once you are stuck in a contract with them. I wish I would have looked at their other reviews on Trustpilot before wasting my time with them.
